JunE : D-day and Dear 1

old Dad

On the 6th of this month heads of State, who are all in NATO nowadays, commemorate when Allied Forces landed on Normandy and began to change the tide in WWII thus redefining a new world order. They defeated nazism, facism and put an end to atrocities that were too common in those totalitarian regimes. James Joyce fans celebrate Bloomsday on the 16th wich is the day when Mr Lepold Bloom lives a day that is narrated in one of the most unsurpasable works of prose. In real life june 16th is also the day when Joyce goes on his first stroll with Nora Barnacle his future wife. In June, Nicaragua is well into the winter monsoon. When the pouring rests, rain clouds filter the otherwise blaring tropical sun. The monsoons pour most in Graytown, south of Bluefields in the Caribbean Coast; this forgotten little town is the rainiest spot in the world. The arid dry topical weather in the Pacific Coast is improved with a soothing scent of fresh rain over adobe. On the second Sunday of this month people in the US celebrate Father’s Day, in Nicaragua it’s on the 23rd. If the family is a miscrocosm of civilization we can see history as many occasions in which fathers have been willing and able to step up, protect, make the most difficult choices and sometimes even give up their own life. The Editor.
