Staple Pieces
By Stella McDonald
Knits
With the autumn chill coming sooner or later, knits of any type allow you to stay warm while also looking fashionable.
Since the temperatures are dropping, wearing dresses or skirts are no longer a reasonable option. However, to combat this problem the sweater dress is to the rescue! Not only do sweater dresses keep you warm, they also are a great solution to creating an outfit in a hurry because they look put together and effortless.
Seen on Alynna, her sweater dress is the perfect choice for a cool fall day. Not only does it provide warmth, but style as well.

As you can see here, statement pants are best paired with a basic and or neutral top to balance the outfit.
Statement Pants
If you are interested in adding some spice to your fall wardrobe, then statement pants are for you. You might be wondering, what makes a statement pant? Well, statement pants could have a unique design or pattern, a fun color, or even an interesting texture.
If you are interested in going the texture route, then leather, corduroy, and tweed are all great options for fall. Personally, statement pants are a year round staple in my closet. I use them as a nontraditional way to incorporate florals, patters, and color into my daily wardrobe.
Button-Ups And Flannels
Nothing says fall more than a cozy flannel and a hot latte. Even though a flannel might be considered basic, it is a versatile piece that elevates an outfit through layering. Over the summer, a major trend was the costal grandmother look, so I would not be surprised to see button ups roll over into the fall. Flannels are perfect for those warmer fall days when you still need something warm but are not wanting to wear a jacket. On the styling side of flannels or button ups, I recommend throwing them on over a basic t shirt, tank, or base layer. You could leave the shirt unbuttoned or not. When it comes to tucking, different styles are achievable from leaving your shirt completely untucked, a front tuck, half tuck, or even for a formal look you could tuck your shirt in all the way around.
Neutral Colors
Neutrals are all the rage now. The Capsule Wardrobe is currently breaking the internet, and to achieve this look you need to build up your closet with neutral colored staple pieces. The idea of a Capsule Wardrobe is to have a collection of clothes that can all be mixed and matched to create an infinite number of outfits. The combinations of layering and paring neutrals here makes this outfit look extremely put together, but this is effortless. It is hard to go wrong when you are working with neutrals, so if you are new to styling this is a great place to start experimenting. Pieces such as neutral shirts, pants, hats, and shoes are great for an infinite wardrobe. With these pieces, you are able to combine and alternate between dozens of outfits all suited for fall.
Beauty
[Byoo tee] noun.
A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight
By Elyse Alvarez, Kambel Reece, & McKenna Valentine
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” You have likely heard this saying hundreds of times, but that’s because it’s true. Everyone’s idea of beauty is different, and therefore, everyone is beautiful to someone. Similarly, certain trends are appealing to some people, but not to others. No matter what, we hope you find something you are inspired by in this article so that you can continue to be your beautiful self.
Beauty trends evolve constantly. For example, in the 1920s, finger wave hair was the trendy style. Then, in the 1940s, the trendy style was victory rolls. Trends can come back, seeing as shaggy haircuts were trendy in the 1970s, and they have reemerged into the scene of 2022. There’s no telling what the new style 10 years from now will be, although maybe it will be finger waves once more!
Fall 2022 Beauty Trends
Makeup
• Light base makeup (less foundation and concealer). Instead, use a skin tint or tinted sunscreen for dewiness and glow
• Cream blush, bronzer, and highlighter
• Peachy, terra cotta, and coral toned blush
• Bedazzled eye looks using gems and sparkly/metallic eyeshadow and eyeliner
• Dark, lightly smudged eyeliner
Nails
• Neutral colors (light pink, beige, gray, taupe, cream, brown, and white)
• Short, easy wearable length
• Chrome nails: a sheer, milky white base nail polish with a chrome powder finish
• Velvet nails: shimmering nails that give off a velvet effect in the right light. Velvet nails are accomplished by using flocking powder on a gel base to give the illusion of a velvety texture

Essential
• Daily SPF 15 or higher sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s never too early to start wearing sunscreen, as wearing daily sunscreen will save you from visible sun damage in the future, in addition to a decreased risk of serious skin issues.
• A signature perfume is a necessary accessory. Like any other accessory, it completes your look and makes you memorable.
• Claw clips have taken over the beauty world and for a good reason. They are useful for easily putting your hair up and out of your face.

Men’sFallFashion
AguidebyZianGarcia
Throughout the years, men’s fall fashion has included slacks, blazers, loafers, denim, fur, and more. But this year, men’s fashion has taken a turn with the complex styles and trends that have emerged inspired by celebrities, TikTok trends, and red carpet looks that have turned heads throughout the world.
Coats and blazers are a great way to add layers and style to any look while providing warmth. The difference between a coat and blazer goes lengths when creating an outfit. When adding a coat or blazer, weather is always a factor to take into consideration. For example, the weather in Midland tends to sway from day to day, so for a windier day, a blazer would work great. For a
cold day, a jacket or coat would work better. Events are also important when creating an outfit. A blazer can spruce up an outfit and give you sense of richness, while a coat is better for a more relaxed day, or to help achieve a sense of street style.
Shown on our model Zian, he utilizes a fall lightweight coat to add color, layers, and dimension to a basic white shirt and jeans to make a simple yet fall look. Seen later, our model Ryan adds layers, color, and depth by wearing a blazer. However, Ryan wears a button down shirt with a basic design that gives his look more flair, adding a more distinguishing look to his outfit. Turn the page for inspiration in men’s fall fashion!

Style
Fashion and style are two completely different things. Style is a way a person expresses themselves. In fashion terns, it’s the way an individual expresses themselves using an aesthetic, like clothing, hairstyles, and accessories. Fashion on the other hand is the dominant style in an era and culture. Now that you know the difference between fashion and style, let’s talk about incorporating your style into fall fashion trends.
Step 1: Go through your closet and find clothes that make you the happiest. Doing this will allow you to acknowledge your own style while finding an aesthetic that fits your personality.
Step 2: Do research on current fashion trends. This will allow you to lay a foundation for where to start and for picking out what clothes to wear.
Experiment with different patterns and colors that match with the season using current trends and using your aesthetic in the mix. With all these steps, you have just used style in current
The first pair of blue jeans were 1873, and ever since then, they have come in and out of fashion over the decades.
However, in Texas, blue jeans have always been used for work. Blue jeans match with everything and can easily be paired with a
A casual shirt to make your look more exquisite. Another feature that goes great with blue jeans is boots. Having a nice pair of cowboy boots is great for casual and formal attire, allowing for that Texan look to make its appearance.
Lastly, you should tuck in your shirt and use a belt; you can even add a belt buckle on the belt to add for a more dramatic effect. Using the features listed, this can make a shabby outfit turn into a business casual look. Connor and Brett, pictured above, uses all the previously discussed elements in their look to make an outfit that can coordinate with almost any event while looking handsome.

Here, our model Alfredo is a great example of using colors that go with the season. He uses brown and navy blue to construct a simple yet creative outfit. Alfredo doesn’t just match the fall color palate, but also applies a button down with his undershirt. He also includes sunglasses as an accessory which combined creates an easy outfit which is easy to digest, yet cleverly put together.

A Sneaker Revolution: Noah Sanchez
By Ella Dodson
Noah Sanchez, founder and owner of Tall City Sneakers, has had the year of success.
From opening his new storefront in Midland to becoming senior class president, he has changed the game when it comes to trendy sneakers around town.
Starting at the age of 12, Noah became indulged in the sneaker culture. With YouTube being his first source of the sneaker community, he began to learn and educate himself on
how to sell, trade, and restore sneakers. With the knowledge of the shoe business under his belt, or laces per say, he bought his first pair of Air Jordan 1 Lows, taking him into a new
world of what sneakers really are.
Just a few years later, Noah began trading and selling shoes on his own, with little experience on how to
operate a business. Although, his business began to take off with dozens of people buying and trading sneakers. Due to the success, Noah opened his very first storefront in the heart of downtown Midland.
Tall City Sneakers became a reality in 2020 with his new storefront thriving with customers. Throughout the next year, Noah would realize how big his business had become.
With his backrooms overflowing and no space left to sell

sneakers, Noah opened a new location in Midland with a larger selling space and backrooms. This is where we conducted our interview, with Noah showing us his new location, shoe storage, office, and his most popular pair of sneakers, the Panda Dunk Lows.
Noah gave us an insight on future trends

he predicts, such as Nike collabs, and the business aspect of Tall City Sneakers. With the new location open and flowing with customers, Tall City Sneakers sells up to 20 pairs of sneakers per day. Noah states that his best marketing tool is Instagram, with their account gaining over 5,000 followers.
Sitting in his office, Noah gave us an insight into his life, stating that the sneaker business can become overwhelming, so, he goes to his dad, a fulltime pastor, for advice and inspiration for keeping the business going strong. The inspiration and passion for Tall City Sneakers has always been the kids. “The
kids who come in everyday and look up to me encourage me to keep the business
going strong.” Educating kids in the community is only one step that Noah is working
towards. With new ideas on the way, Noah is looking forward to becoming a part of the community and wanting better for the kids who look up to him.
With Tall City Sneakers becoming an inclusive environment for all kids, teenagers, and parents, Noah has become a role model for many student entrepreneurs at Midland High School, on social media, and around town. Not only has he founded a successful business at the age of 17, but he also plays a huge role in the fashion and leadership community.
The business owner Noah Sanchez continues with his life outside of Tall City Sneakers at Midland High School, a current senior. During the last student election, Noah won the title of senior class president and has made a difference in the school spirit and involvement at pep rallies, football games, and more. Not only has he been influential in the few months that school has been in session, but he will continue to be with the exciting months ahead. Noah will carry on with his class officer duties through football games, Senior Carnival, and graduation.
“Fashion is a lot of different things, but it ultimately depends on who you are”
With his bright future ahead, Noah will continue his education through Midland College majoring in business and will carry on the legacy of Tall City Sneakers.
Noah has and will always be an inspiration for all, and has created a unique business in Midland, a thriving and young community, where people can find fashion trends, sneakers, and passionate employees who are bound to make an impact on the community.

Jewelry & Accessories
By: McKenna Valentine & Keren Ortega
Adding
accessories to an outfit can completely transform one’s look. You can accessorize using makeup, scarves, belts,
tights, sweaters, and layered pieces of clothing. However, what I believe to be the simplest way to accessorize and step up your style is jewelry. But where to begin? First, it’s better to invest in higher quality jewelry to prevent breaks,
waste, and color change. An affordable way to approach this is to buy gold plated or sterling silver jewelry. These pieces will last for years, go with every outfit, and become staples for your wardrobe.
35| M Mag
Now that you have your pieces, how do you style them?
Some people like to keep warm/cool clothing color and skin tones in mind when deciding what jewelry to wear, but in truth, as long as you wear it with confidence, it doesn’t matter.
You can color coordinate with your outfit or wear the same jewelry every day. Consider whether you like a more minimal approach to accessories. If this is the case, maybe pop on a staple ring, necklace, bracelet, and call it a day. If you prefer a more maximalist approach,
consider layering necklaces of different lengths, bracelets, and rings on several fingers. If you’re a crystal person, or someone who just likes colors, you can always buy beaded jewelry or jewelry made of minerals like quartz, amethyst, or aventurine. You can even buy beads from the craft store and make jewelry with friends!
Let’s Talk Boots
Leather has become an annual staple in the fall wardrobe because of its fashionable appearance and practical warmth. From leather jackets and trench coats to pants, shoes, and bags, there is a surefire way to incorporate leather accessories into any outfit. You should keep in mind the importance of ethically sourcing any leather items, whether it be from thrift stores, antique shops, or other purchasing sources.
Chunky loafers are an increasingly popular shoe option for cooler fall weather. These shoes are durable and-once they have been broken in are very comfortable. (Tip: break in your loafers by wearing thick socks to stretch them out so that they can properly form around your feet!). Tights with fun
patterns such as floral and hearts are a nice pairing to chunky loafers, or to another fall staple: knee-high boots.
Knee high boots have been worn since the 15th century when they were worn by soldiers because of their greater protection they offered compared to ankle high shoes. They then rose in popularity most notably in the 1970s and 2010’s, making a striking comeback and will remain relevant for the years to come.
ATHLETICS
An article on uniforms and their functions
By Ariana Vaquera & Emerald Alvarez
Athletes from Midland High School wear all kinds of athletic wear from dri fit, to Nike, and even their own uniforms. Read as we look at athletic wear in the Starz dance team, track, athletic trainers, and color guard and how it enhances their roles and duties in their sport.
The Starz DanceTeam
The Starz dance team is one of Midland High’s spirit squads on campus. Their purpose is to entertain the crowd with sideline dances and halftime performances and compete in a variety of different competitions. The Starz are often seen in practice wearing leggings, shorts, and tank tops. Their matching head to toe outfits at MHS football games represent who they are and how they are unified. Their uniforms are not only chic, but also effective in allowing these athletes to move comfortably.
39| M Mag
Midland High’s track team competes in sprinting, middle distance, hurdles, and steeplechase events as well as many others using speed and pace. Track uniforms have many features like dri fit that provide comfortability and dryness during their respective events. Another important feature of a track uniform is the right type of shoe. Spikes are used by runners to help them run faster on uneven terrain by providing an extra level of stability.
Track & Athletic Trainers
Midland High’s team of athletic trainers provide a form of health care that includes preventing, recognizing, assessing, treating, and reconditioning of athletic injuries. The athletic trainer’s uniform is a simple, but cute and functional look. The staple piece of an athletic trainer’s uniform is their bag which is used to provide easy access to equipment in case of an emergency. All their equipment, from bags to shirts, help to establish a professional look to assure athletes feel safe and comfortable when moving forward with treatment.
The color guard’s purpose is to interpret the music the band plays into dance. They do this by not only using their bodies, but also props such as flags and rifles. The color guard team, along with the band, puts on a magnificent performance at all events, from football games to competitions. The beauty of color guard is the team and especially their uniforms. Midland High’s color guard can be seen wearing an assortment of athletic apparel to enhance their performance by using makeup, different colored outfits, and patterned flags.
