We previously discussed layers with lightweight jackets in the Fall Issue. Since winter is coming soon, let’s talk more about heavier jackets for warmth. Typically, in the winter, people style their clothes with a peacoat, letterman, or anything that allows us to feel cozy in the freezing weather. Luckily for us, the letterman is coming back into the fashion world. Usually, high school kids wear their letterman to be casual yet warm, however, due to the trends, we can find new ways to style them and create new stunning ideas for your wardrobe.
The letterman comes in and out of fashion every few years, but due to their diverse colors, we are allowed to experiment with many different colors and patterns for the winter. Take for example the Midland High lettermen. If you take an athletics letterman, they would be gray, and if you were to have an academics letterman, they would be
Wpurple. With these colors, it allows us to style the Midland High School letterman in easy and complex ways that allows us to stay warm. A complex way to style your letterman would be to explore the complementary colors of the letterman and add depth by creating layers and using patterns to really help diversify the outfit. An easy way to style your letterman would be to put a sweater or hoodie under your letterman that matches. By doing this, it creates a casual yet pleasing look that also allows for warmth. For example, Aidan, our model shown next, styles his black and white letterman with beige accents and a beige sweater underneath to pop the accent color. Aidan creates a matching, pleasing, and fun look by pairing his letterman with a digestible sweater.
Winter colors are very closely related to the colors of fall. However, the difference between the two seasons lies in the weather and the holidays. These two factors of the season change the colors utilized in fashion. Like fall, darker colors work best for the season. If you want to add a pop of color, red and green work great as Christmas features these colors prominently. Colors you should try to stay away from are summer and spring colors such as pastels, whites, and light colors. Knowing what colors compliment your skin is also a big role in which colors you wear. For example, our model Gus on the right wears black pants and a dark green sweater. These colors match with his light complexion.

On the other hand, our model Zian on the left wears a bright red sweater and pairs it with white pants to pop the accent color. Due to Zian’s darker complexion, the red complements his skin, allowing both the skin and color to feel more exaggerated. This combination allows for colors to shine through and for a simple, yet unique look.

3. Architectural sweaters. Architectural sweaters are just the fancy way of saying a sweater with depth. For example, a sweater with two or more solid colors, knitting styles, or patterns are all considered an architectural sweater. 4. Sweater vests. Sweater vests are easy to style and always look good. Two easy ways to style sweater vests is to put a shirt underneath the vest and let it pop out. For more of a unique look, wear the sweater vest with no undershirt. Either way creates a very consumable look. 5. Baggy jeans. Baggy jeans are super easy to find as they can be thrifted or found anywhere in stores. Match your baggy jeans with an oversized shirt and call it a day. Trends come in and out throughout the four seasons, and although it’s a hassle to keep up with all of them coming and going, it can be essential in stepping up your fashion game.
1. Shoulders. The concept of broad shoulders is in, so this can be used with shoulder pads or anything that really broadens or defines your shoulders. 2. Leather. Leather can be a bit tricky to create an outfit with. However, once you do, it creates an edgy aura and gives your clothes a new fabric to work with. Starting off with a simple black leather jacket or pair of black leather plants is perfect for this winter trend.
