By Lynsey Hoppman History of Denim:
James W. Davis, a tailor from Nevada, made the first pair of rivet-reinforced denim pants. For the first time, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss obtained a U.S. patent in the production of putting rivets in men’s work pants on May 20, 1873. From then on, “waist overalls” or “overalls” were a hit. It wasn’t until the 1960s when baby boomers started calling them jeans.

Why is Denim Good for Cold Weather?:
Denim weight plays a big factor into why it can keep you warmer in the cold. The fabric is normally thicker than heavy wools or cotton weaves. It gives it sturdiness and keeps you warm. Darker color denim, like indigo and black, are better suited for the cold weather because the dark colors hold more heat and allow for more warmth. Lighter denim colors are better suited for warm, summer weather.

Denim on Denim:
Denim on denim is a trend in which someone picks out different colored denim pieces of clothing and matches them together. This is a very common style to see now, and it started in the late 1970s and early 1980s which has inevitably stuck. Wearing denim on denim is not only on trend, but it also allows for depth in an outfit and matching sets.
