THE TOB Educational Centre, Our project aims to provide practical & simple design and construction solutions while maintaining an optimum level of spatial qualities & Sustainability to create a design that acts as a “Pioneer “in both the educational infrastructure & also sustainable design, this was achieved by three main ideologies: Community centric design, Inclusivity & Modularity. The main challenge was to integrate the built classroom into creating a cohesive design, The unique form of the classroom (In relation to the urban fabric) played a huge inspirational factor to our approach as we found it served our purpose of integrating Simplicity, Uniqueness & Heritage restoration.
The heart of the project: The community Centre acts as a heart to our project, it supplies services, connects functions & extends visuals. It’s also where students and volunteers can experience special moments in the double height yoga space and the terrace overlooking the sea. The central positioning makes it easily accessible through every part area of the project, and most importantly, the visual connectivity to the whole project creates a safer environment for the children.
Cultural preservation: While opting for an innovative design we also wanted to highlight the rich history of Ghana, this was through using curved walls with thatched roofs inspired from old African housing, but we also wanted to be included in the students experience so we added a performing arts classroom to help students express themselves while celebrating their culture.

The delves into varying depths, evoking a hidden sense of darkness with sharp edges that guide and confront the visitor. The walls, etched with the names of 125,000 martyrs, heighten the emotional intensity, instilling a profound sense of distress and sacrifice.
As visitors progress, the design deepens the emotional narrative. The confined spaces open gradually to areas of light, symbolizing hope and the monumental achievement born from adversity. The interplay of materials, from rough stone to polished surfaces, mirrors the transition from struggle to triumph. Every step, every angle, is calculated to immerse visitors in the essence of the excavation—its hardship, its human cost, and its enduring legacy.
