STAGE 1 Demolition & Excavation

Steel reinforcing is positioned to allow 40mm of concrete cover. This process ensures that concrete is not subject to corrosion by water or air penetration, which could compromise the structural integrity of the members.

Spoon drains are positioned between columns and masonry walls (installed later) to discharge water collected straight to the SW pit and LPOD consecutively.

STAGE 2 Basement Structural Walls

The construction of the Cave House needs to consider surrounding properties and ensure it does not compromise their structural integrity. For this reason, the shotcrete wall (SW1) is constructed in 3 stages to ensure the 45-degree excavation buffer to the neighbouring property is maintained.

Mesh is projected 600mm above SW1 to allow for the third stage of shotcrete. This process also occurs at the top of the third section of wall SW1 to ensure the reinforcing elements of the ground-floor suspendedslab can be connected to the reinforcing elements of SW1.

STAGE 3 Ground Floor Suspended Slab Pour

Vibration must not move any reinforcing elements to prevent loss of tensile strength. `

STAGE 4 Ground Floor Framing

“ChemSet™ Anchor Studs are made from quality Grade 5.8 carbon steel to get the most out of adhesive tensile capacities and provide higher shear capacities than regular Grade 4.6 grade studs. Galvanising of ChemSet™ Anchor Studs meets Australian Standards. Stainless Steel ChemSet™ Anchor Studs are high corrosion resistant AISI 316 (A4)”

STAGE 5 Intermediate Floor Framing

TekÂŽ screws are selftapping fasteners, have a very small carving at the end of its tip called a drill bit. http://www.allpointsfasteners.co m/WhatAreTekScrews.html

STAGE 6 First Floor Framing

Vertical framing is temporarily braced to support wind and construction loads.

STAGE 7 Roof Structure

Posi-Struts are a light, economical method of providing large clear spans in rafters, purlins or floor joist situations. The inclusion of posi-struts in the cave house allows services to be threaded through, saving ceiling space. http://www.mii.com/page/open.asp?pid=1 2255

STAGE 8 Roof Cover

Klip-Lok roofing is a strong, durable and versatile roof cladding. The concealed fastening method allows the system to be easily installed without penetrating roof structural elements. This provides another waterproofing element.
