Alyssa’s Articles Boo! This is the month of pranks, scary movies, and lots of candy! Have you ever thought of making this month worth more than that? October can be the month where you take caring into action. Trick-orTreat for UNICEF is a great example of what you can do. Instead of asking for candy, you can just ask for money (more info on page for 5). There are many events going on in Division 12 this month. Rally is on the first and I hope to see you there! Also, there is a Breast Cancer Walk in Lake Charles and Millennium Park will start being rebuilt this month. Division 12 News School Of the Month Sulphur High School Congratulations to Sulphur High School for winning school of the month!
Sulphur High has done an amazing job this past month. They turned in their monthly report in on time, they had five people attend the PCM, and 90 people registered for Rally. They have also done an amazing job at planning projects and following through with them and keeping me and their Facebook page updated about what is going on. Thank Sulphur High! Keep up the great work!

School Project Ideas!
Vacation Day Care Plan activities for young children during their breaks from school. Suggestions include movies, game day, and a day at the park. Trick-or-Treat for Cans Have your Key Club members dress up in costumes, and instead of trick-ortreating for candy, have them ask for donations or canned goods. Deliver the “treats” to a food pantry or homeless shelter. Decorate Pumpkins Decorate pumpkins for Halloween and distribute them to nursing homes. Sponsor a Nursing Home Party Work with a nursing home to host a party. Contact a nursing home to see what date would be appropriate. Provide a theme, refreshments, and entertainment. Secret Teachers Assign each member to a teacher. The Key Club members can surprise “their” teacher with little gifts throughout the year. School Bleachers Paint and stencil numbers for school bleachers. Finish off the stands, making sure you are well within the specifications set by the fire marshall. Consult your school’s maintenance supervisor for guidance.

Clubs in Attendance -Barbe High School -Saint Louis High School -Sulphur High School -Westlake High School -LaGrange High School (in formation) At the PCM Westlake High Key Club President discussed about Project Smile. They are collecting stuffed animals to give to the fire stations, so they can give it to children that lost their toys and such in a fire. We also review different ways to communicate and the Key Club Structure, and the Governor’s Project. There will be a 8 hour Dance Marathon on November 11th. Reminded them about their rally packets and answered any questions. Also, The Divisional Officer’s Training is on October 15th and it is MANDATORY for all officers. The Next PCM will be immediately following D.O.T.

Division 12 Events Division 7A, 7B, & 12 Rally! What is rally? Rally is one the biggest event we have in a division! You get to come in for a day and learn about different key club and non key club things through forums (sessions). There will be music, food, and an inspiring keynote speaker. Join us for the fun! When? October 1st, 2011 Where? Comeaux High School, Lafayette, LA Cost? $8 (pre-register), $10 at the door Time? 8am-12 Who should attend? All key club members! Why Should I attend? You will get to meet key clubbers from all over the southwest; learn about key club, and be inspired by an amazing keynote speaker!

What is D.O.T? Divisional Officer’s Training. At this training, you will learn everything you need to know all about your officer position, being servant-leader, and ways to make your club successful. When? October 15, 2011 Where? TBA Cost? FREE! Time? 12-3:10pm Who should attend? ALL club officers and advisors! This is MANDATORY! Why should I attend? So you can help build your club to be the best it can possibly be!

Trick-or-Treat! This year, the money raised for UNICEF will go towards the ELIMINATE Project!
How to Participate Every Club will receive a fundraising kit right after Labor Day that includes Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF collection boxes, a campaign kit and poster, a DVD, and more resources to help you conduct your campaign. If you need an additional supply of boxes, call 1.800.KIWANIS, ext 411. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has been around for 60 years. Kids, teens, and adults dress up for halloween and instead of asking for candy, they ask for money. This money is donated to UNICEF. This money helps UNICEF to provide nutrition, medicine, education and the things kids need to thrive.

Major Emphasis Program (MEP) is a program in which Key Club International challenges all Key Clubs and members to focus their energies on making an international impact. The purpose of the Major Emphasis Program Committee is to promote the service initiative and service partners by coming up with new project ideas. Their Mission To involve the whole world in our conservation initiative and in doing we hope to educate the public, spark your interest, and have you become a close friend of these endangered gentle giants Friend-a-Gorilla is a Uganda Wildlife initiative that is dedicated to educating the world about Uganda’s endangered mountain gorillas. They have partnered with Key Club and specifically designed a community outreach program just for us! If Key Club raises at least $250,000, the club that raises the most will get to send an advisor & two students on a safari in the Ugandan jungle to see the gorillas! If Key Club raises $500,000, we’ll have the opportunity to name a baby gorilla! Clubs that raise $2,500 or more will receive badges For more information check out friendagorilla.org

It was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller and with his Linda Fuller. Habitat for Humanity has built over 350,000 houses around the world providing 1.75 million people with safe and affordable shelter. Monetary donations, materials needed to build houses, and volunteers are some of the ways Habitat for Humanity is able to build simple and decent homes.
