Once upon a time, there was this guy called Amado that traveled for one year to do his exchange program in Milan, Italy. Amado was studying to become an architect, and he believed Italy was the ideal place to do his exchange because of all the history the country had (and because he loved wine as well). This story will center around Amado's adventure to find a home and the problems that unraveled while he lived there. When he arrived in Milan, the first thing he needed was a place to stay. Amado found a graceful and posh Italian broker called that helped him find a great place in a cool area near the university. The apartment was terrific; it was on the first floor, it was spacious, had high ceilings, and had a beautiful balcony that had a view of the entrance of the building. The only problem was that it was too big for him, so he needed to find the right person to share it with. So he went for help to the University international student office, where they gave him a list of all the students arriving in Milan so he could contact them and find a proper roommate.

After days of speaking with people and not finding a match among the students coming home, a sweet girl (or kind of princess) from an old town called Bogota came to answer his prayers. Her name was Anna, and she appeared to be the perfect fit to share the apartment. Anna had a charming personality, and she was effortlessly pretty and was majoring in finance and management, which gave Amado a feeling of security and friendliness. But unfortunately, Amado didn't know what was coming for him; sooner or later, he would learn that you cannot judge a book by its cover. The first days sharing the apartment were a mess; Amado, an architect, had OCD for cleaning and order. But on the other hand, Anna, the princess of her hometown, was a mess, and she was used to people doing everything for her. And know when this narrator refers to Anna as a princess, he is not exaggerating; she was one runner up for Miss Colombia, so folks, we are talking about royalty here.

So I was telling you, it was a bit of a shock for Amado to live with a woman and someone as messy as Anna was. Amado tried to comfort himself, thinking: "This is a normal adjustment. When people start living together, they have trouble getting to know the other's traditions". But this was a fool, though, because the more time passed, the greater the tension between Amado and Anna.

Months passed by, and Amado and Anna's relationship worsened every day. The main problem was that Anna never cleaned. Not the living room, not the dining room, not even the kitchen after cooking. Amado was lucky that he didn't share the bathroom because he was utterly sure that Anna didn't clean it. Amado tried (with no success) to show Anna the things that bothered him and asked as politely as possible to clean after using the areas. But Anna turned out not to be a princess but an evil witch who did not care about anything but her comfort. She became ruder as the day passed, and she seemed to care less and less about the apartment's cleanliness and the friendship she shared with Amado. As I mentioned before, the tension grew bigger and bigger between the two characters, and it was not until the last day together that things got out of hand. The last week together was the worst of the whole year. Amado and Anna did not speak to each other, and Anna was even snappier than before. Amado's patience was almost gone, but he saw the light at the end of the tunnel because the lease was about to finish, and Anna was leaving before him. Anna's last day in the apartment was Amado's happiest one. He woke up, and the birds were chirping outside. IT WAS FINALLY THE DAY. He ran into the kitchen to find Anna (and a huge mess, obviously) making farewell cookies to her Italian friends. He greeted her happily, focused on making the last day together, the best one yet. Amado had to run to do some errands, but the only thing he asked Anna was to please clean the mess done by the cookies. She forced a smile and agreed to do it. Amado spent all afternoon outside, and when he came back to the apartment, he found Ana leaving, assuring she left everything good as new.

When he closed the doors of the apartment, Amado couldn't help but do a happy dance. For the first time, he felt at home; even if there were two weeks left, the feeling of having the house for himself was incomparable. Everything seemed so good, but then he noticed the kitchen. It was a sugary crime scene, Anna did not clean the cookie mess, but she worsened it. Some of the walls even had cookie dough on them; it was unbelievable. And if that was not enough, Anna left a tray of burned cookies on the kitchen table. THIS B*TCH!!!! - Amado screamed. The rage that got into his body was incomparable; he needed to do something. He tried to be polite all this time and got burnt cookies as a reward. He then remembered the beautiful balcony the apartment had, which had a clear view of the entrance of the building. So he grabbed the cookie tray and walked furiously towards the balcony doors. There she was; Anna was waiting for her cab just below the apartment's balcony. "ANNA" - Amado screamed from the top of his lungs. Anna turned to see who was screaming her name, and that's when it happened. "YOU FORGOT SOMETHING," - said Amado while he poured the mountain of burnt cookies over Anna. He then returned to the apartment and closed the doors of the balcony, getting his ultimate revenge and closing the relationship with Anna for good. And that's how Amado finally thoroughly enjoyed his two last weeks in Milan without any company or burnt cookies. And since that day, Amado learned not to judge people by their cover but by their homes' cleanliness.
