Master Plan Design Competition Launched for “Burj 2020” Four design firms will be participating in a competition organized for building “Burj 2020 District”. The district will include “Burj 2020 Tower”, the world’s tallest commercial tower. There are several items of importance that form part of a contemporary construction style including transportation and flow of traffic for the Burj 2020 District. Executive Chairman, DMCC Mr. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, talked about the concept behind the plan, saying, “Smart solutions will be a principle feature of our new development, affording higher levels of efficiency and urban sustainability a pre-requisite for the global business community of the future.” He further elaborated on how this initiative will also attract more tourists to Dubai, provide better business opportunities and meet customer demands, “We are going to create the optimal environment for trade and enterprise with a commercial district that brings together retail, residential, business and lifestyle services. It will also increase tourism, attract more international investors to the region, as well as becoming a major hub for multinationals enabling these businesses to grow, innovate and trade, which again impacts positively on Dubai ‘s GDP.” DMCC is aiming to fill the gap for efficient and purpose built commercial office space which is in shortage right now. The ground breaking ceremony of “Burj 2020 District” will be held in 2015.
