As a discipline, urban design is practiced at the intersections of landscape architecture, architecture and urban planning (including geography and engineering). Urban design is about “place-making” - how to create everyday environment as meaningful places. It is an ongoing, unfinished and dynamic process. It also engages the broader urban contexts with regard to sustainability, including aesthetics, ecological, political, economic, social, cultural, psychological and technological importance of design in the public realm, serving public interest. Urban design also incorporates major urban interventions, new settlements, design of urban open space and creation/ protection of urban character. This project focuses on the Borward County’s Melrose Manors and Riverland Park. Through fieldwork, observation and studies there are 3 proposals that aim to make this area a better ‘place’.
