visited CopsCats Cafe on Dhekelia Road, as they opened their doors to everyone last month.

The spacious and well designed cafe is open downstairs with vet service at the back, where rescued cats can be spayed and neutered. The venue also hosts a foster area for abandoned kittens and cats upstairs, with chill out rooms for nervous cats. CopsCats is the brainchild of Kathi Neisel and her friend Anna-Louise Woelke.

Originally from Germany they settled in Cyprus 5 years ago. Kathi said, “We registered charity so every profit goes into looking after the stray cats.At the moment we have 15 cats but more are waiting to come to us. We also cooperate with bigger vet clinics. Some need intensive care, most are from car accidents or poisoning and the common diseases in Cyprus. We only look after sick or stray cats that wouldn’t survive one the. But what we really focus on is neutering to stop them reproducing because that is a big problem on the island. I set up the charity after finding stray kittens on the beach, I bottle-fed them and realized the only solution to solve the misery and help the strays cats is to neuter them. It´s not just the female cats that needs to be done, it`s also important to neuter the males to stop them fighting and spread diseases." The cafe is open Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm during the off-season.
