Sasol Chemicals is a global solutions provider focused on sustainability, circularity and specialties. It fulfills its mission of “Innovating for a Better World” by offering a broad, state-of-the-art portfolio of specialty and commodity chemicals for a wide range of applications and industries. Its products add value, security and comfort to the daily lives of people around the world. Our global presence, integrated value chains and strong market positions provide the foundation for future growth, connecting our unique chemistry with our customers and partners. Sasol’s Lake Charles Chemical Complex manufactures products used in cleaning and personal care markets to manufacture ingredients for soaps, detergents, shampoos and cosmetics. Our specialty chemicals are also used in mild abrasives, thickeners and pharmaceuticals, as well as in the enhanced oil recovery markets. Globally, the company employs more than 29,000 people in 27 countries. In North America, Sasol has operations in Arizona, Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania. The Lake Charles site employs close to 1,200 Southwest Louisiana residents directly and another 1,000 annually through major Louisiana contractors. The site is about 2,200 acres within the fenceline with only a fraction of it being utilized today. Our research and development laboratory is located at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex. The R&D laboratory employs approximately 80 scientists, engineers and technical staff to serve the current and future science needs of the company and is part of the larger Sasol Olefins & Surfactants R&D function. The heart of our R&D effort is comprised of our state-of-the-art analytical chemistry facilities, with modern analytical chemistry equipment and dedicated scientists involved in all aspects of R&D work. In addition, the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between Sasol and LyondellBasell, is operated by Equistar and located adjacent to the Lake Charles Chemical Complex. The joint venture consists of an ethane cracker and two manufacturing units that produce consumer plastic products such as wrappings, bags and molded forms. Sasol recognizes its operations will be successful only if the community shares in that success and remains sustainable over the long term. The company has delivered on its commitment to use Louisiana businesses first and has spent more than $8 billion with 8 major Louisiana-based contractors over the course of our mega project. We hired more than 800 new full-time employees to support the project – 94% are Louisiana residents and 83 percent of those are Calcasieu Parish residents. The company also committed more than $7 million and thousands of employee service hours over the years through the company’s corporate social investment program.
