WHO I AM ALEX MARTI
Why Architecture?
Architecture had a significant impact on my life since I was a kid; Baseball gave me a lot of opportunities to travel around Latin America and the US. It allowed me to visit the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Colombia, and the USA; it allowed me to perceive different types of architecture and fall in love with every place where I went. The different languages and diverse examples of architecture make me ask myself how the design process was. That’s the main reason why I decided to become an architect. Architects travel the world and are problem solvers, which is the definition of myself.

M2 Color + Culture MY COUNTRY:
PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is represented by a variety of colors which represent the culture. A huge part of the Puerto Rican culture are the festivals where one of the major characteristics are the colorful backgrounds. Most of these festivals are in the capital San Juan, which is influenced by Spanish colonial architecture. On the other hand, food plays a huge role in our culture, our main dish is the mofongo which is mashed plantain that is then fried in combination with your preferred meat. Our music “BOMBA” comes from African descent, we also have the reggaeton which is today one of the most streamed genres.
Puerto Rico’s main colors are red, blue, and white which are the colors that the flag is composed off. The red represents the blood of the Puerto Ricans who died on the quest of freedom. The Blue represents the beautiful beaches and the sky. The white represents every Puerto Rican who fought and won the independence against the Spaniards.
The red represents the blood of the Puerto Ricans who died on the quest of freedom.

The white represents every Puerto Rican who fought and won the independence against the Spaniards.
COUNTRY OF INTEREST:
SPAIN
SPAIN The colors of Spain’s flag are red and yellow. In Spain, these colors have immersed themselves in becoming one with the culture. These colors originated from the Spanish Kingdom and have come a long way to become something so meaningful to the culture. These colors have become so crucial to the culture, but they have also become a representation of the country. To start, red represents love, excitement, and passion, as stated before these colors have become a massive part of their culture and an excellent example of that is in the art of flamenco
The signature looks for a flamenco dancer is a red flowy dress. The other primary color in the flag is yellow, and yellow symbolizes hospitality, the sun, and summer. Like red, this color can be seen in most of the culture like in the building and streets.
The red represents love, excitement, and passion.
The Yellow Symbolizes hospitality, the sun, and summer
Objectives: Learn about the use of color in these two countries and how influences them, also acquire knowledge about their culture and their traditional food. Conclusion: In this assignment we were instructed to introduce our culture and use color to analyze the history and traditions of it. We were also able to pick a country that we were interested in and analyze the color in their culture. I chose Spain because I have always been drawn to it. The vibrant red and yellow are so warming and welcoming. Something that I take a lot of pride in is my Puerto Rican culture. In this assignment I was able to learn more about the history of the colors of my flag.

M3 Color + Theory
M3 Color + Theory One of the things that I learned in this chapter is that colors play a huge role in improving the environment of the design and enhancing the person's personal experience. The colors help the people experience around 80% of the visual sensory, which means that a good selection of colors could help design the concepts. I also learn that color theory is the study and practice of principles of the understanding of color and their relationship. The most curious thing is that color theory has a science behind it that blends the design and the knowledge of the color performance.
It depends on the human interfacer if the person is home, school or office; the colors renovate the surroundings. Most of the colors have a light; with no light, there’s no color the transformation of color as the view is an energy that travels through the air at 186,000 miles per second. Color and light illuminate a space; also, it could guide a focal point, therefore, and the attention of people. The combination of color on the material it can create synchronization at the inside of the interior space. The selections of these colors could consist of a series of wavelengths.
Conclusion: In this chapter we were able to learn about famous theorist like Newton, Munsell, and many more. We reflected on what we learned in chapter 2. Some things that I learned were how color and light can guide people’s attention and change a focal point in an interior space. Colors also consist of a series of wavelengths; the shortest wavelengths are violets and the longest wavelengths are reds. All in all, this assignment set out the foundation for the continuation of this course.

The Why Factory has created a significant difference from the surroundings because of the color orange. This color combines the happiness of the yellow and the energy of the red. Mass's concept revolves around creativity, success, and determination. This goes hand in hand with the color orange because studies show that orange can stimulate mental activity and even supply more oxygen to the brain. The color orange has very high visibility, which helps expose the ideas produced in the project.
Objectives: Learn how the color blends perfectly with the architect concept. Also, how it can influence the people around the project. Conclusion: In this presentation we are focusing on “The Why Factory that is located in the Netherlands. The main color of the Why Factory is orange, this color perfectly combines the happiness of yellow the energy of red. This combination of color has also shown stimulation of the brain by allowing more oxygen to reach the brain. This shows me how important it is to know the different influences of color. This can take a design of mine from bland to stimulating.

M5 Introduction + Assignment Instructions
A quote that got me thinking was the opening sentence of the chapter, “just as water is necessary for life, color sustain our soul.” I never thought of color in that way, but I agree with this statement. Color can make or break a design; color can make a room feel welcoming or dull. Also, colors can bring back memories, whether they are good or bad. A red can remind you of the red dress your girlfriend wore to your first date, and that can bring back beautiful memories while a grey can tell you of a night that you had to spend in the hospital. With all that is happening around our country right now that has to do with the social injustices and the protest I thought that is was interesting that there were crayons with color names such as flesh, Prussian blue, and Indian red that had to be changed because they were deemed offensive by civil rights groups.
They were then changed to more appropriate names, like peach, midnight blue, and chestnut. I find this so interesting because this was a small step to overcoming a type of racism. Although the people who created the crayons may not have wanted to harm anyone, this makes an association in a kind of people that is not accurate. For example, a test was conducted to see how colors affected emotions, and the results showed that “yellow, blue, and orange are happy colors, and red black and brown are sad colors.” By labeling a red “Indian red,” this can bring bad rep to Indians. Color and health are a fascinating topic. Although chromotherapy is a new and not well-understood practice, there is a lot of evidence to benefits of chromotherapy with many different medical conditions.
For example, migraine headaches can be soothed with natural sunlight filtered through blue glass, and difficulty breathing can be treated with light filtered through yellow glass. Other conditions that can be treated are depression with red light, nervousness, and irritability with blue light, and a sore throat can be treated with a green light. Lastly, people who have lost their sight can be affected by color light; the color triggers hormones in the hypothalamus that control one’s moods. Conclusion: In this chapter we learned about the different ways that color helps manipulate perception. Colors can bring back memories with just a glance. Something else that we learned in this chapter was that there are different behavioral responses due to color. Depression can be treated by red light and blue light can be used to treat nervousness
M6 Color + Film
Life of Pi The life of pi is a movie that tells the story of a boy who is stranded on a boat with a tiger. The story takes place in the Pacific Ocean after a shipwreck occurs where there are only two survivors, the boy, and the tiger. At the beginning of the film, they make it clear that these animals are real animals and can cause danger to those around them, that they are not just cute little pets to play. The tiger and the boy must learn to trust each other while waiting for help. Color plays a massive part in this movie, bringing scenes to life and emotions to those watching the film. The author was able to bring spiritual value into the film, which also forms part of the title “life of pi
Scene 1 The scene where Pi is desperately trying to survive a shipwreck. This picture is an excellent representation of gloom and fear. During the stages of the shipwreck, everything is dark and mostly different shades of grey. This gives a mysterious tone to the scene, and the viewer starts to question if the family and the animals are going to make it out safe. Along with the suspense, the dark colors add fear to the viewers. It makes the viewer feel like they are the ones on the boat trying to survive. The combination of the dark blue and the white creates a very high suspense scenario that intrigues the viewer. I believe the gradients of blue are what create the suspense in this scene
Scene 2 Before this scene that shows a starry night and animals glowing in the sea, we see Pi having a difficult time hunting for fish. We see the hardship of being out at sea for so long and having to live on a raft because of his fear of the tiger. In his struggle to hunt the fish he feels guilt after killing the fish, even though he must survive and eat he stills feels for the creatures and asks for forgiveness from God through prayer. The scene pictured we see Pi at night playing with the ocean water as if glows in the night sky. I believe that this scene represents hope. In a moment of darkness there is so much light with the stars in the sky and the glowing fish in the sea. The contrasts of blue help to accentuate this feeling of hope.
Scene 3
This scene is the most colorful scene of the movie and that’s why it got my attention. The vibrant colors are so beautiful and bring joy to the viewer. This scene takes place before the whole accident with the shipwreck. Pi is in what looks like a performance school and spots a pretty girl, he then decides to go after this girl after class. These vibrant colors help portray the young love and flirtatious atmosphere. It brings joy to the viewers .Also the power that the combination of the orange and the yellow bring power into the scene. The viewers also can perceive happiness which correspond to the color yellow. In this specific scene is very curious that his shirt match perfectly with the green leaf, great detail by the author.
Use of color
The life of pi has a beautiful use of color, which trough out the movie blends perfectly tension, frustration, overcoming, and happiness. The film contains different scenarios that use its color palette; it depends on the scenario's mood. The author uses a great variety of gradients, which helps to express the momentum and storytelling. The author creates a transition between the first and third scenes, which shows in the different color palettes. Therefore it was easier to express the feeling in the scene. These two scenes are similar because they have a lot of details that go on with the palette. Conclusion: This presentation was very exciting it taught me a lot about color and its ability to transmit emotion through a screen. Seeing the use of color in a movie helped me realized that colors like blue can transmit a calming emotion and a grey scale with dark colors can create anxiety and unease.
M7 Color + Balance + Rhythm
Chapter 4 In this chapter, I read about balance and what is means with color balance. Balance is a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. The balance of color helps convey different impressions and perceptions the designer wants. I also read about the different types of color balance. To achieve a balance of color, one must have a contrast of hues, values, and chroma. The first type of color balance we saw was value contrast (light/dark) in this type, the colors balance the opposite of each color is shown to enhance the differences between the objects. The contrast of these colors adds value to each other and helps to draw attention to the area. This type of color balance is used to bring attention to things like warning signs. Another color balance is hue balance, these colors when placed next to each other, complement each other’s hue making them appear brighter than they really are. On the color wheel, these colors are placed right across from each other, making them opposites.
An excellent example of this is green complementing red because there is no green hue in red. The contrasting colors coming together achieve a harmonic order of color and balance. Lastly, the intensity contrast (bright/dull) balance helps add or subtract weight to a color by adding grey or white. The more you add grey to color the more weight will be applied. This technique can be used to lower ceilings height.

Chapter 5 The deferent types of rhythm associated with color are repetition, alternation, progression, continuation, and radiation. As the textbook states, “color rhythm primarily evolves through hue sequence, value sequence, or multiple-color sequence.” With a strong distinction of color, one can create a dynamic, active, and spatially intense experience. The first type of rhythm associated with color is repetition, which is “the systematic, orderly succession of identical design elements along a defined path in space.” (p.198) This type of rhythm helps bring unity to the interior space while, on the other hand, too much variation can cause chaos and confusion. A way to use repetition is with the color scheme; this can help create rhythm and balance. A similar type of rhythm to repetition is alternation, the deference is this pattern has two distinct elements as opposed to just one element repeating. Both elements complement each other and balance the movement. Progression is another form of repetition but with a continuous change. This type of rhythm can help guide the viewer’s perception and help to either close space or open it up.
Continuous is a type of color rhythm that refers to the placement of one or more colors throughout a space to create a continuous eye movement. This concept helps develop a sense of rhythm, and the goal is to keep the viewer’s eye moving continuously. Lastly, radiation is a type of rhythm that refers to an arrangement of objects in a radial pattern. This type of rhythm’s goal is to create movement and unify different design elements. Conclusion: Learning about color rhythm and balance was beneficial due to the fact that these two things are really important when it comes to design. There are many different types of color balances like dark/ light which is where the colors are opposite and that allows for the audience to see the differences between the two objects. On the other hand, we have complements which is when the color hues complement each other to allow the objects to look brighter than what they really are. Color rhythm also place a role when it comes to grabbing the attention of the audience. The goal of choosing the right color rhythm is to bring unity to a space. If done correctly using color rhythm and balance can bring a whole space together.

M8 Color + Retail
Contrast of Hue The contrast in hues is all spread out through the store. The majority of the store is full of neutrals and whites with pops of color places strategically to draw the shopper’s attention. With the ceilings being so high, the designer added some elements hanging from the ceiling to bring the illusion of a lower limit. If you pay close attention, you can see that the designer could combine different colors with a contrast of hue to draw more attention to the elements. The different types of color make the audience change their focal points of the room. I believe the selection of color is significant because light and bright colors can help the transit of the store and the psychology of buyers
Contrast of Value The contrast of value is significant because it can change the feeling for the audience and help them feel that they are in a pleasant space. The use of monochromatic in this picture helps the room to feel harmonized and invites the consumer to buy from this store. I believe that this store lacks contrast value because we cannot make the light/dark comparison. The combination of different tones of red creates a great contrast of value; it also makes the public feel in an enjoyable space. The Louis Vuitton stores often use light colors, which means that the contrast of value is not part of their concept.
Design Features The contrast of design features includes the faรงade, colors, and shapes. As stated before, the majority of the store is in neutral colors and there are pops of color spread out through the store, this allows the elements with color to stand out more because of the contrast between both elements. Another variation of design is the faรงade of the store; it is angular and sleek. This design is the first impression the customer has; it is was draws them inside the store.
Contrast of Texture In the store you can see many different textures like the smoothness of the walls and floors compared to the roughness of the rugs and wall art. I believe that this helps emphasize a dramatic change to draw the consumers attention. Although in the picture you can see that the sofas and the rug are similar in color they contrast in their textures. In other pictures shown before you can see the differece of texture between the chairs and the coffee tables as well.
Focal Points The deconstructed concept of the store is the first thing that can get the attention of the audience. The faรงade helps grab the attention from the viewers on the outside while the daylight that comes through the window helps the consumer appreciate the design on the inside. Another focal point of this store is on specific items; usually, the item tends to get attention because of the color and the texture. Often these items tend to be placed on a great piece of furniture, which helps on the perspective view. Also, the light of the store and their direction create a particular focal point; this is an excellent example of how to use lighting to expose something. The store's art design is an excellent point of attention because it allows the selected bright colors to gain the audience's attention.
Conclusion Although this project is originally done in person, I am a little glad that we were able to choose stores outside of Miami. We were given the opportunity of going outside the Florida and find a store that really drew our attention. The store I chose was the Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul. What drew me into this store was the store front, the angles and lights really caught my eye. When looking at the store from the inside we see great examples of contrast of hues and contrast of textures. We also see a great use of focal points; they are able to place bright colored products around a beige room to bring attention to the merchandise. Overall this assignment showed me that there is no need to compromise design or functionality for retail

Designers Background
Mayer Davis studio is a firm located in New York City, Will Meyer and Gray Davis found a multidisciplinary firm. The firm focuses on high end commercial and residential architecture across the US and usually works with private residence restaurants and hotels. Mayer Davis's design principle consists of a clear vision of the experience that wants to create. Mayer considers every new project an opportunity to bring a compelling story behind every design. The firm seeks to play with texture, space, form, and light to create a unique experience that will inspire and compel other people.
The firm tends to depend on big architectural moves, such as working on multiple levels and striking into detail with a combination of textures. After two decades in the field, the firm is an iconic brand in the design world. The firm had previous work with four season, rosewood hotels & resort, auberge resorts collection, mandarin oriental, and many others. In addition, the firm has been awarded the James Beard award and numerous interior design best of the year award. Their hospitality experience also leads them to receive the boutique design gold award and the induction into the hospitality design platinum circle.
Lobby The designer was able to create a great comparison between the texture and the use of lines. The 1 hotel is an eco-friendly hotel whose main focus was to create a unique experience with the materials used in this project. The designer was able to create a right combination of texture with the wood panels, which form part of Mayer concept. The lobby contains vertical compositions but with different materiality, which helps with the distinction of the spaces. The pallet used by the architect consists of a dark vs. Light color where space feels more prominent because the light color is closer to the people, and the dark color is close to the ceiling. The color palette on the design is focused on natural color, which combines perfectly with the concept. Also, the variety of details with texture make the lobby feel very light and calm. The texture enhances the visual because the architect was able to combine the private space with a touch of outdoors materials, which create a very balanced interior design.
Working Space Since is a private space, the designer didn’t intend to use the white color, which is a prominent color in other areas. In this specific area, the architect uses more his color palette, which consists of natural colors. The material used in this private working space depends on the materiality to impact the design. The visual psychology in this room inspires privateness and tranquility. Still, In the same time, I have trouble identifying for what purpose this room is because of the enclosure and the texture. The exciting part about this room is that it has a garden at the end, which is the focal point because of the color. The room look has a lot of the visual weight because the table that the architect places is a trunk. It looks heavy, but it looks that the people will have a unique experience setting on this room. The texture enhances my visual experience because it feels like an outside space. The combination of different woods and the perfect color matching create a great mixture of an eco-friendly area. The user is affected by the combination of every design component, particularly in the design concept combined with the texture, the customer feels in an outdoor area.
Conclusion
In addition, the combination of different woods and the perfect color matching create a great mixture with the texture and the artificial environmental colors, it creates an eco-friendly space. In my personal opinion, this hotel can bring an exceptional hospitality experience. The architect was able to combine significant architectural movement with nature, which creates a unique characteristic for a hotel on South Beach. This process is achieved with the custom furniture designed by natural elements. Also, Mayer was able to bring some luxury into the table; he was able to manage well the different types of texture trough the hotel. The customer will be able to experience a wood ceiling, which brings an elegant touch into the hotel, which I believe is one of his designs' main characteristics. The architect uses the color green in the decoration of the design, which represents the color of life and energy. I believe this color and the characteristic help with the calmness of the hotel. I think there should be more hotel to use the eco-friendly concept because the tendency of this generation is other, this hotel can help the visitor to feel pleasant and disconnected from the outside world

Reflection M9 Color + Hospitality Chapter 7
On chapter 7 are several good points that it caught my attention the color proportion is a great concept that architect should follow because an interior space should contain no more than five colors if the interior designer fo with more than five colors it could start feeling overwhelming and it can misunderstand the intended communication. I also find it very interesting that we can use the grid from figure 7.3 to generate the color proportion. I also find it very interesting that sometimes we can then use color and scale to change the relationship between different programs. This can be used to change the visual perspective which sometimes it could be very pleasant for the visitors. Also, they are another method where we can add additional proportional methods where we can use quantities of measures to get consistent results. We can use the golden section and the Fibonacci sequence which they are a mathematical formula that helps us to decide is an object is the right fit for space. The golden section was developed by the ancients greeks when the division where the ratio between the largest section and the smallest section. The Fibonacci sequence was influenced by Leonardo Pisano he was a mathematician who develops this sequence.
Reflection M9 Color + Hospitality Chapter 8
Chapter 8 I believe this chapter was more interesting than the 7 because I was able to discover the six elements of color harmony which consist of how apart they the color wheel the further apart on the wheel the higher the contrast. In addition, I learn that this could add visual rhythm to an interior space. I also learn how complementary work which is that scheme has a smaller amount of visual contrast than the direct complement, on the other hand, the double complementary includes two adjacent hues. Also on this chapter show perfectly how analogs scheme work which is an incorporation of three to five house that allows o play with a variety of color but still minting familiar scheme. These types of schemes make the color more intriguing and it can be used in a calm space. A perfect example could be a doctor's office where people can feel less anxious. The triadic color harmonies contain three colors that are intermediate form each other this scheme contains an equally spread out color on the color wheel which also it could be very efficient at the moment to Crete a combination of color because it will dictate itself at the moment of selecting a color.
SANDOW New York City
M10 Color + Workspace
Background Designed by the firm Gensler, the office focus is to create innovation and media design. The company design consists of maintaining the core values, which include obsessing over quality and design. The Gensler team was able to put a lot of thoughts together, which led them to inspire employees to work at their highest potential. As a result of these elements, their main architectural move a combination of colorful graphic walls, modern art, and an open floor plan
Use of color In order to adds enthusiasm to the office, Gensler kept their use of color narrow. The main corporate colors for the office are yellow and grey. This combination of color adds visual interest to the interiors and uniquely enhances the employees' performance because the color yellow represents enlightenment and creativity. On the other hand, the gray helps in the color balance because it represents security and reliability. This color combination with brighter surroundings draw attention and express identity and hierarchy.
Architectural detailing
Sandow architectural detailing goes perfectly with the brand because it has a modern look. The company represents famous brands and also a technological brand like apple. Sandow and its focus on the media field create a fascinating topic where the architect needs to focus on innovation for the design concept. The workspace consists of a yellow carpet, and with grey strips that enlighten the standard area views also, the furniture blends perfectly with the carpet. In addition, the wall contains graphics with the color yellow, which enhances the worker's environment. Another architectural detailing is the glass wall which includes a number in them, I believe the detail gives the workspace an excellent opportunity to look innovative.
Conclusion The project's concept blends perfectly with the company because the architect was able to express their company's principal core value. In order to represent the company values, the architect selected a color palette where expresses creativity. The architect chose a specific form of furniture that conveys modern architecture and enhances the office's visual interaction. The program consists of several meeting areas divided with glass panels, increasing the visual depth and the lightness of the office. Also, the office's common areas include open spaces where the division consists of modern furniture.
