THE WORLD IS WITHIN YOUR REACH
One of the questions we get the most from our customers is “What do I need to do to prepare for a river cruise?” Since we’re always happy to help, we put together a list of some of the important steps travelers should take before departing on a river cruise vacation.
THE EASILY FORGOTTEN ITEMS One of the best parts of a river cruise is you only have to unpack once, but you’ll be traveling a great distance! Your “floating hotel” will have nearly everything you need, but don’t forget to pack: Your swimsuit or workout clothes Medications A backup pair of glasses or contact lenses
CHECK THE WEATHER
It’s always a good idea to do a little research about probable weather conditions for the places you’ll be traveling. When you know what kind of weather to expect, you’ll be able to pack smarter and prepare for conditions when you’re out sightseeing.
RESEARCH THE RIVER
The cities your tour will be stopping in aren’t the only places you should read up on before your trip. Take some time to read about the river(s) you’ll be traveling on, and you’ll know ahead of time which parts of your trip will be the most scenic and eventful.
BACK UP YOUR ELECTRONICS
If you’re bringing a smartphone, laptop, or other electronic device on your trip, make a backup of all important files before you leave in case your device gets lost or stolen. It’s also a good idea to remove any sensitive files that might give less honest people a way to access your bank account or personal info.
READ THE ITINERARY
River cruises often have group events and other scheduled occasions, which may require formal wear or other preparation. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the scheduled stops on the tour, and what you’ll need to bring to be fully prepared for all of them.
SHOES, SHOES, SHOES
Wherever you’re traveling, be sure to bring at least one pair of reliable, comfortable walking shoes you know you can wear for long periods. Ideally, you’ll be doing a lot of walking and sightseeing – make sure you have the right footwear!
CHECK FOR EVENTS
You never know when there might be a festival, fair, or special event in one of the cities you’re going to visit – unless you check ahead of time! Stops along the river are a great opportunity to explore the local culture. Many cities are famous for a particular season – for example, beautiful flowers blossoming in spring or a celebrated Christmas market.
