Voted Best River Cruise Line by
Luxury is the freedom to choose from an endless array of included experiences. It’s the feeling of having your every need and want taken care of from the moment you step on board. It’s exploring extraordinary destinations and enjoying exclusive experiences. Luxury is all of this and more.
The world’s leading cruise review website, Cruise Critic, recently voted AmaWaterways the Best River Cruise Line – and it’s easy to see why.
We appreciate that no two travelers are alike. In celebration of what makes you unique, we include up to eight or more daily excursions for you to choose from: guided hikes and bike tours, city tours offered at three activity levels, culinary demonstrations, wine tastings and excursions for late risers, all operated in small groups of less than 25 guests. Whether you are traveling solo, with your significant other or your whole family, it’s easy to personalize your river cruise experience.
Plus, with generous amenities such as heated pools, Entertainment-on-Demand in your stateroom and afternoon tea upon request, you can opt out of excursions at any time, taking a few moments or a few hours to yourself for the ultimate in relaxation.
Among 650,000 reviews on Cruise Critic, AmaWaterways ranked #1 in the river cruise category as Best for Active Cruisers. With a dedicated Wellness Host curating a selection of fitness classes throughout the day during your Danube River cruise, you may find yourself enjoying sunrise yoga while cruising into a charming Austrian village, dancing on the Sun Deck in Budapest, or strengthening your core in Serbia. We pioneered river cruising’s first complimentary Wellness Program in 2017 – and the offerings continue to grow.
Be treated to award-winning fine dining in multiple venues on board. Rise and shine with our vibrant breakfast bowls or perhaps a sumptuous Eggs Benedict in the Main Restaurant. Delight in our freshly made soups, crisp salads and an array of international dishes during lunch. Savor tapas and afternoon tea in the Main Lounge, offered upon request. And indulge in our multi-course dinners, including one evening at The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant courtesy of AmaWaterways, where the mouthwatering tasting menu and service are a highlight of your culinary journey.
As the first river cruise line to be inducted in both La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and Tables et Auberges de France, we are proud to bring the taste of each country to your plate at every meal – including at The Chef’s Table. On board you will have the opportunity to indulge in local flavors such as Marchfeld asparagus in spring and Wachau Valley apricots in summer. During your included excursions, you may even witness the journey of some of the fresh, seasonal ingredients we prepare on board with visits to nearby markets, farms, wineries and distilleries.
You can also enjoy sparkling wine with breakfast, complimentary regional wines and local beers during every lunch and dinner on board and a daily Sip & Sail cocktail hour just before dinner, all included in your river cruise fare.
Our extraordinary Cruise Managers and crew continuously go above and beyond to enhance the onboard experience, surprising and delighting our guests with thoughtful details, getting to know you personally and anticipating your needs before you ask. From the warm welcome you receive the moment you embark to the moment you return home, our AmaWaterways family will ensure you feel like royalty.
Meticulously selected among hundreds of applicants each year, AmaWaterways’ extraordinary Cruise Managers are the best in the industry: friendly destination experts with charisma and extensive experience in providing exceptional levels of personalized service. Warm-hearted, genuine and knowledgeable, they are there for you every step of your journey, including during our optional land packages before and after your river cruise.
Our people are the main reason more guests return to cruise with us than with any other river cruise line – a testament to their passion and unrivaled service.

Make the most of your long-awaited vacation by adding our optional land packages before or after your sailing for an all-encompassing river cruise and land journey. Indulge your wanderlust and we’ll whisk you away between your ship and hotel, plus take you on specially curated guided tours with just the right amount of leisure time to explore the art, history or culinary delights in sought-after cities around the world.
There are many benefits to adding a pre- or post-cruise land package with AmaWaterways. One of the simplest reasons is the convenience of making all your future travel plans at once. No need to call and research multiple providers – just contact your travel advisor or call us and we will take care of it all. But the value of adding a land package doesn’t stop there.
Our pre-cruise land packages provide a more intimate environment in which to get to know other travelers who will also be joining you on the river cruise. While this is a wonderful perk for all our guests, solo travelers find this particularly comforting as they make instant connections with people they will dine with and join for excursions once on board.
Whether you wish to rest and recover from flights or pamper yourself before returning home, you will find no better respite than the trusted 4- and 5-star hotels we have carefully selected for you. Each luxurious property is centrally located near the major sights, such as Budapest’s historic Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel and UNESCO World Heritage Site just steps from the banks of the Danube and a stone’s throw from the city’s famed Vörösmarty Square. If you should wish to extend your vacation even further, extra hotel nights can be conveniently arranged as well.
One of our friendly and knowledgeable Cruise Managers will accompany you throughout every step of your river cruise and land journey, offering you restaurant and shopping recommendations, great travel tips and even greater peace of mind.
» Overnight stays in exceptional 4- and 5-star hotels conveniently located near the major sites

Flowing through multiple countries and four iconic capitals – Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Belgrade – the Danube winds through Old-World Europe, where castles were built, kings and queens were crowned, and visionary artists were inspired.
With ships cruising the Danube River nearly year-round, no two journeys on this storied waterway are the same. Plus, we offer an unparalleled variety of included excursions to suit every kind of traveler – in every single season.
Our Co-Founder and President, Rudi Schreiner, grew up in Vienna, at the heart of the Danube River. Each of our itineraries is thoughtfully curated with the most authentic experiences under his guidance as the “Godfather of River Cruising.” Many of our Cruise Managers and crew also hail from the regions we journey through and are proud to share their personal stories – as well as tips on local shopping, dining and hidden gems.
With AmaWaterways, the festive holiday season begins on board as the last of the November leaves fall from the trees with our crew joyously “decking the halls” in impressive garlands, twinkling lights and magical snow globes, as well as Hanukkah menorahs and Kwanzaa kinaras. Our ships are widely recognized as the most elegantly decorated ships on the rivers – much to the delight of our guests!
From the second half of November through the New Year, guests are invited to participate in a variety of seasonal traditions during their cruise. Decorate gingerbread cookies in The Chef’s Table and adorn the trees in the Main Lounge with ornaments. Sing Christmas carols with the crew and don’t forget to leave your shoes out one night for St. Nick – every guest receives a treat! Guests on board during New Year’s Eve will also enjoy a special evening gala and champagne countdown.
At the start of the season, select cities along the Danube such as Vienna and Budapest open their Christmas Markets early and we love to surprise and delight our guests with visits beginning in mid-November. As December comes, additional cities and villages illuminate in the glow of their markets, the delicious aromas of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts filling the air. Most of our December Christmas Markets itineraries include near-daily visits to local markets enabling you to shop for handcrafted souvenirs and taste seasonal delicacies to your heart’s content.
Our heritage on the rivers and relationships forged throughout the years have granted us access to exclusive cultural events, tours and tastings just for our guests. These experiences elevate your journey, enabling you to interact with local people, share in preserving their time-honored traditions and create memories that will last a lifetime.
In the Bavarian town of Vilshofen, Germany, AmaWaterways has our own private venue where guests are treated to authentic Bavarian beer and pretzels as musicians in lederhosen and dirndls play live music. The mayor of Vilshofen himself and the local beer queen are often in attendance and are proud to teach guests traditional dances, toasts and more.
Austria’s oldest residential castle opens for AmaWaterways’ guests on select Danube River itineraries in the quaint town of Grein. Alongside a knowledgeable tour guide you will see the “Rooms of the Ducal Family,” housing priceless works of art, as well as the mysterious Sala Terrena, a theater adorned floor to ceiling in an awe-inspiring pebble mosaic dating back to 1625.
Savor the flavors of Wachau Valley wine paired with live music at the historic Klosterhof Restaurant, the centuries-old former wine press house of St. Gottweig Abbey. With the charming winemaking village of Spitz as your backdrop, enjoy the festive atmosphere and white wines of this region such as Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Honored as one of TIME Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places” in its first year, our extraordinary AmaMagna has been reimagining river cruising on the Danube River since its debut and continues to exceed expectations, welcoming guests on board six unique itineraries.
Designed specifically for cruising the Danube River, our innovative flagship is twice as wide as traditional river cruise ships yet welcomes a maximum of just 196 guests. The thoughtful use of the enhanced width affords our guests the luxury of space in stunning staterooms filled with modern comforts, the majority of which are suites measuring 355 sq. ft. with full outside balconies.
While select AmaMagna itineraries offer up to eight included excursions each day, there is just as much to explore on board this special ship. Take a dip in the sun-deck pool or whirlpool, play a friendly game on the full-sized pickleball court, watch a movie in the onboard cinema, work out in the Zen Wellness Studio or enjoy some time to reflect in the dual-level Main Lounge.
In addition to the Main Restaurant and The Chef’s Table, AmaMagna boasts two additional dining venues. Jimmy’s, named in honor of AmaWaterways’ late Co-Founder, Jimmy Murphy, is a warm venue accommodating up to 60 guests for delicious dinners served family-style. The intimate Al Fresco Restaurant offers a “vegetable forward” menu and welcomes up to 24 guests for breakfast, tapas, light lunch and dinner as well as afternoon and late-night snacks.
As you cruise along the Danube River, our expert chefs and culinary team frequent local fields, farms and orchards where several families have been cultivating their crops for generations. Our shared commitment to sustainability, family and personal connection makes us proud to support these farms – guaranteeing fresh and flavorful ingredients while reducing the distance each item travels to our ships.
Our menus showcase the freshest ingredients and traditional dishes in each season, ensuring you not only see and experience local history and authentic traditions – but you taste it too. On this spread is just a small selection of the wonderful individuals and families who provide the food and beverages you will enjoy on board.
Growing fruit for generations, the Ulz family nurtures their crops in Styria, Austria’s largest apple-growing region. While we slice, bake and preserve seasonal apricots, pears, strawberries and cherries purchased from the Ulz family, they are perhaps best-known for their apples, which are described as being “gloriously juicy” and are available year-round. We are delighted to use these on board in dishes such as our popular apple strudel.
Fine Austrian whisky, rum, gin and vodka serve as the base for many complimentary drinks served at our Sip & Sail cocktail hours. We source these from Peter Affenzeller, a passionate nature enthusiast and family man who grew up on a local farm that he transformed into a whisky distillery near Linz. Using grain from the farm and the surrounding area, Peter creates award-winning spirits and, most importantly, is committed to doing so as sustainably as possible.
In addition to using ingredients sourced from the towns and countries we visit, our chefs are delighted to introduce you to traditional European delicacies. Indulge in crispy Wiener schnitzel while cruising through Vienna, savory lángos flatbread while in Hungary, sweet Linzer Torte as your ship is docked in Linz and even Kaiserschmarrn, the preferred dessert of Austria’s Emperor Franz Joseph I.
If you are passionate about exploring the world through your taste buds, AmaWaterways offers a variety of culinary-themed special interest tours as you journey along the Danube. Clink glasses of Slovakian craft beer at a pub in Bratislava, delight in apricot jam and sweets in Dürnstein, sip plum brandy in Belgrade, and even be invited into a local Bulgarian home for a hands-on training in making banitsa, a deliciously flaky pastry.
Climb higher and venture deeper into iconic cities and Old-World villages with AmaWaterways’ active excursions. Whether on two wheels or on two feet, our guided hiking and biking excursions take you well beyond the typical tourist paths and deep into the rich culture and natural beauty of the places you visit.
