Torre Baro, Ciutat Meridiana – Barcelona Student – Amay Uday Gurkar
ECOTECT - SITE ANALYSIS
The model imported is part of Barrio 7 which comprises of Torre Baro, Ciutat Meridiana and Vallabona, each having their own characteristic planning. For the study, I have applied the calculation on a small part of Torre Baro along with its terrain. The site has a very steep terrain and blocks mostly individual housings are built along the slopes of the Collserolla range of mountains. First Step was importing the Rhino 3D model by keeping all objects into different zones using zone-by item name into ecotect. After importing the file , we need to clean the blocks sometimes redraw them and otherwise using merge coincident triangles from the modify menu.
Annual Shadow Range
SHADOW ANALYSIS
Displaying Shadow Ranges during different Months in a year. This analysis represents the overshadowing over near by buildings and the terrain throughout the year. It gives us an idea of which spaces are shaded for a longer duration in the whole year.

Total Solar Radiation
SOLAR ACCESS ANALYSIS
Total Solar radiation representing the amount of radiations along the sun path during different months in the year. The orthographic and the spherical projection tells us the amounts of heat and the angle of sun on the whole model and also on selected buildings or surfaces exposed to the sun.
Solar Radiation on selected surface
Solar Radiation on selected surface visualized on sun path
Total Solar Radiation on large surfaces Total Solar radiation calculated on large surfaces help us to understand the total amount of solar access at different points on the surface, like the study above on the surface of the terrain, this is not taking into consideration the tree shading, just tells us the amount of direct and diffused sunlight throughout the surface of the mountain.
Solar Access analysis when carried out on selected surfaces of nearby buildings, give us the information of the total radiation accessed on those surfaces throughout the year. This tells us which parts of the subdivided surfaces get direct light and which get overshadowed. The different parts of the surfaces which get shaded in blue receive less light and the parts in yellow / orange receive more direct / diffused sunlight.
Solar Access Analysis on selected surfaces on sun path
Similar solar access analysis could be generated on an analysis grid subdivided according to our needs. This analysis projects the same calculations, but on different slices throughout our 3D analysis grid box, giving calculations in XY axis, YZ axis and the XZ axis for a more detailed calculation.

Spatial Visibility Analysis of selected buildings
SPATIAL VISIBILITY ANALYSIS
Spatial Visibility Analysis of selected buildings – YZ Plane Spatial Visibility Analysis of selected buildings – sliced
Spatial Visibility Analysis of selected buildings – 3D
The Spatial Visibility Analysis Calculation helps us analyze visibility of selected objects from different points within the analysis grid. This lets us information of which buildings have more visibility against one another. A good guiding tool while planning different neighborhoods or cities.

WIND ANALYSIS
The CFD Analysis – Air Flow rate generated by using WinAir and data from relevant wind data websites, helps us in understanding the air flows along the calculated site. In this case around the terrain and the buildings on them.

This diagram shows us the difference in temperatures calculated along the different cells of the analysis grid. Determines the temperatures generated along the air flow.
Cell Temperatures – 3D analysis grid
The Air Flow Vector represents the same information as the Air Flow rate but using vectors of air flow within each cell on the analysis grid.
