INTENT
THE
FOR THIS DESIGN IS TO EMBRACE THE CHANGE IN THE LIBRARY
TYPOLOGY THROUGH WEAVING USER SPECIFIC PROGRAM THROUGH THE SPACE
,
WHILE SURROUNDING USERS WITH FEELINGS OF CURIOSITY AND
DISCOVERY THROUGH THE ENCLOSURE.
STARTING
AT THE SIDEWALK
THE WEAVING PROGRAM FOCUSES ON AND SUGGESTS THEIR NATURAL PROGRESSION THROUGH THE SPACE TO BECOME SOCIAL USERS, BROWSERS, STUDIERS, OR READERS.
THE
SKIN OF THE LIBRARY COMPLEMENTS
THE PROGRAM THROUGH ITS UNDULATIONS, MATERIAL, AND GEOMETRY WHILE PROVIDING THE CHARACTER OF DISCOVERY AND CURIOSITY THAT IS INHERENTLY LOST DUE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TYPOLOGY.
THE
UNEXPECTED ANTICIPATION OF WALKING DOWN AN AISLE OF
BOOKS AND STUMBLING UPON SOMETHING ENTICING IS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF DISCOVERY THAT IS REINVENTED VIA THE ENCLOSURE.

THIS PROJECT WAS COMPLETED FOR THE 10 DAY 113TH JOHN STEWARDSON MEMORIAL COMPETITION. MY
FRANCISVILLE TERRACES ON RIDGE AIMS TO CREATIVE LIVE. WORK COMMUNITY IN THE ARTS DISTRICT OF RIDGE AVENUE. SIGNIFICANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE CONCEPTION OF THE NEW FRANCISVILLE INCLUDE ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE METHODS, STIMULATING THE COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR ALONG RIDGE AVENUE, AND ATTENTION DESIGN FOR THE
FOSTER A THRIVING AND
TO PRESERVING THE EXISTING HISTORIC STRUCTURES AND CHARACTER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
MANY
OF THESE CONSIDERATIONS WERE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT
IN THE DESIGN OF A NEW STREETSCAPE THAT COULD PROJECT FURTHER DOWN

OFF
OF THE STREET, THE CREATION OF URBAN TERRACES
