A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER As the Founder of Single Moms Planet, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 5th Annual Single Mom’s Awards benefiting Single Moms Planet, a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting single mothers and their children. In the United States, nearly one-fourth of all children are being raised by single mothers. I founded Single Moms Planet to bring attention to the unique plight of single mothers and remove the barriers that stand between them and a better life for themselves and their children. This organization is committed to educating and supporting mothers by offering a variety of programs such as peer-to-peer mentorship, family counseling and entrepreneurial training. We also strive to promote living a healthy lifestyle as well as accountability and HOPE. Our goal is to build strong families one at a time. In the five years Single Moms Planet has been in existence, we have built a community of mothers who can share life experiences with each other and create a culture of empowerment, resiliency, self-preservation and strength. Our thriving community of mothers is like a mosaic made up of different races, cultures, professions, socio-economic status and interests. Our diversity has helped us to persevere, overcome challenges, and build a foundation that will help Single Moms Planet be a resource for mothers and their children for years to come. Our future is bright and we will continue to endeavor to reach as many moms as we can. Because we want to be of service to moms worldwide, we have built and are continuing to enhance an online platform at www.singlemomsplanet.com which serves as a resource for mothers as well. Today’s event is hosted by the acclaimed dancer, actress, and singer Mayte Garcia. I am ecstatic that she will help us honor nine award recipients who are making a difference in our community. I would like to thank Mayte and all of the outstanding honorees for making a difference in the lives of so many women and children. I also extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has helped to make my vision of Single Moms Planet possible, and for helping me produce an amazing awards ceremony and festival. And finally, I would like to thank my mother Cynthia Shepherd for always supporting me, and my children Elijah & Xavier Horn for being my reason for pursuing greatness daily. AWARDS SHOW HOST MAYTE GARCIA NY TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL , PRESIDENT OF MAYTE'S RESCUE, MEMBER OF LOVE4ONEANOTHER Mayte Garcia starred in VH1’s new reality series “Hollywood Exes”. The show followed the lives of the ‘ex wives’ of some very well known stars of the Hollywood, sports and music worlds. The cast includes: Nicole Murphy (Eddie Murphy); Sherie Fletcher (Will Smith); Andrea Kelly (R Kelly) and Jessica Conseco (Jose Conseco). Mayte is also set to star opposite Latin heartthrob William Levy, (“DWTS”) in a feature film set to shoot later this fall. Mayte is a talented entertainer and triple threat that can act, sing and dance – finding success on all fronts. Mayte was recently seen in her first studio film, New Regency’s Firehouse Dog, and the independent feature Life Is Hot IN CrackTown opposite Victor Rasuk, Brandon Routh and Kerry Washington. She also starred in Ego opposite Eve and Vincent Laresca. Nick Cassavettes executive produced the film. On the television side, Mayte has appeared on Lifetime’s “Army Wives”,USA’s “Psych,” NBC’s “Las Vegas” as well as the season finale for the TNT show “The Closer,” and on the FX hit show “Nip Tuck.” Her recent success is evidenced by a drive and work ethic that goes all the way back to her childhood. Born in Alabama to parents of Puerto Rican descent, Mayte grew up all over the United States and in Germany (due to her father’s career in the military), and spent her summers in Puerto Rico with her extended family. A dancer from when she was basically out of the womb, Mayte began classical ballet and belly dancing at the age of just three years old. Inspired by her mother who was a professional belly dancer, Mayte became the world’s youngest professional belly dancer at the tender age of 8. She was even featured on the popular show, “That’s Incredible.” While still in Germany, Mayte went to a Prince concert with her family. At the concert, her mother and father noticed that his song “Thieves in the Temple” had a very Arabic vibe to it. Mayte’s mother told her to send Prince a tape of her belly dancing to his song to show him her talents. Although she laughed off her mother’s suggestion, she eventually obliged. At another Prince concert just a week later, Mayte’s mother convinced some members of the New Power Generation (NPG) to give the video to Prince. Ten minutes later, Mayte was asked backstage by Prince, and for two years, they kept in touch.

Community Activist of the Year Mother, Model, Actress and former Miss USA 1995, Shanna Moakler has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in entertainment. Born and raised in the affluent town of Barrington, Rhode Island, She began modeling and acting as a youth, appearing in major campaigns and magazines nationwide. After graduating she started modeling in Boston, Miami and then New York, where she won the title of Miss New York USA. She then took the title of Miss USA 1995 which lead her to Los Angeles. After a lucrative career in modeling, she soon after landed a role on USA’s “Pacific Blue” as a series regular. Shanna continued her acting career appearing in Movies like “The Wedding Singer”, “Love Stinks” “Big Mommas House”, Poison Ivy and TV shows such as “Joey”, “Entourage”, NCIS and CSI as well as posing for Playboy Magazine as their centerfold for December 2001. Family of the Year Rodger Saffoldis an NFL veteran and offensive guard for the Los Angeles Rams. His wife, Asia Saffoldis an entrepreneur, philanthropist and community organizer. Together the couple has used their platforms and life’s work to giving back to those in need through various acts of service with organizations like The Boys and Girls Club, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, and Single Mom’s Planet. Rodger is the owner of a competitive eSports team “Rise Nation” and have worked to diversify the eSports culture by providing scholarships to minorities and women alongside the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Asia has dedicated much of her time to building a community of supportive mothers and mothers-to-be with her website “The Balanced Mom” and being an advocate to educate the masses about alzheimer's disease. As a unit, Rodger and Asia have built supportive communities in sports, health, and community awareness. Alongside their philanthropic duties, the couple, now married for four years enjoy traveling the world, eating delicious bites, and spending time pouring knowledge and love into their two small children.

Man of the Year Lee Harrison is the Deputy Scout Executive of the Western Los Angeles County Council, Boy Scouts of America. He has full responsibility for the business operations of the Council including camps, offices & stores, risk management & insurance, fundraising and was most recently asked to fill the role of Scout Executive from August of 2015 through December of 2016. WLACC which serves approximately 10,500 youth directly and 22,000 through the camps. Lee supervises much of the operating budget approaching $8 million dollars and is responsible for raising charitable gifts each year for operating, capital and endowment. Lee supervises a full-time senior staff of eleven. In addition, he has responsibility for facility development and licensing/permitting with various governmental agencies. Currently, Lee is working on several initiatives that seek to provide camping and education experiences for at-risk and low-income youth from the South Bay and East San Fernando Valley. Lee is a graduate of California State University at Humboldt with a degree in Theatre Arts and Computer Technology and has experience in the film and television industry as well as youth development. Recent Mamarazzi events have included celebrity guests Sarah Jessica Parker, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Garner, Kevin James, Elizabeth Banks, Tina Fey, Hugh Jackman and Pitbull. The MOMS have also hosted many non-profit events including an event with Jada Pinkett Smith to raise awareness for Human Trafficking. From 2010-2011, The MOMS created and hosted a half-hour TV show with NBC called Moms & the City and A Dad Named David. My name is Lisa and my single mom journey began at pregnancy. I was in between jobs at the time I became pregnant, I quickly found a job and worked all the way until my due date. I was blessed with amazing parents who allowed me to move in with them so I could afford to stay home and bond with my baby for a time. I went back to work when she was a toddler. She is 10 years old now, it has always been just the two of us. Her father has not provided any financial support and has never spent one on one time with her other. It is difficult to find/make time to take a “mommy break” aka attend social events, and dating is almost impossible. This happens when you are the only parent 100% of the time. The most difficult challenge is being the only person in the world that disciplines my daughter, its hard word and sometimes I feel like I can’t get it right. The UP side to all of these challenges is that I don’t have anyone elses parenting style to deal with and we are super close and she tells me absolutely everything. She can’t stand to be away from me and I am soaking that up right now, because I know she will soon be a teen and that will probably change. She is a smart and brave girl, and I am grateful to have such a strong and loving daughter. She is an honor roll student, she is a star soccer player and has been a junior ambassador for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles since the age of 6. I am so proud of her, I'm proud of US. This year has been extra challenging because my daughter had to have emergency surgery one week after I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. The financial burden of both of our surgeries has resulted in many sleepless nights for me. I used up my paid time off during her hospital stay and for my many doctor appointments. All I can do is pray and have faith that everything will work out. One day at a time.
