AN OVERVIEW What is Beyond Opioids?
Beyond Opioids provides free attorneys to eligible clients impacted by the opioid epidemic and other substance use disorders (SUD) in civil, non-criminal matters. It is a consortium of prevention, treatment, and recovery service providers led by the state's two legal aid programs: Center for Arkansas Legal Services (CALS) and Legal Aid of Arkansas (Legal Aid). CALS and Legal Aid are nonprofit law firms serving all 75 counties in Arkansas.
How can Beyond Opioids help families impacted by substance use disorder? Individuals affected by SUD face wide-ranging issues that destabilize their entire families, such as a critical need for kinship care, access to treatment, and barriers to recovery. These SUD-induced issues are exacerbated by poverty. CALS and Legal Aid specialize in helping poverty populations through civil legal interventions for issues that flow from household dysfunctions related to SUD.
