Don’t forget to mention the Voice when you use any of the companies in this Magazine

We have a few new advertisers this month, so a warm welcome to them and of course, a happy welcome back to all the existing ones! All the advertisers are good quality local providers of services that you will find useful at some point, so keep this mag until next month for reference!

Carla has recommended Heather at Body & Sole this month after her massage, which she enjoyed immensely and the offers from Heather this month are looking pretty tasty! We’ve also got some updates from Alfreton Indoor Market and Leonard Cheshire Disability have some vacancies, alongside all the usual updates and information. Also, we’ve had Mrs Owen from Higham come forward as well regarding last month’s plea for a disabled dog walk. I’ve contacted the relevant person who enquired and passed on the details of a club that meets in Clay Cross. It just goes to show, community news can be spread...just make sure you keep the information coming in and we will print it!!

Alfreton Safer Neighbourhood Update Your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team is advising residents about the safe and responsible use of mini-motos, scooters, off road and quad bikes. The advice follows a slight increase in reports about them being used anti-socially during the warmer weather, especially around public footpaths, parks and open spaces. As well as carrying out patrols, speaking to riders and taking positive action whenever possible, we have also worked with the Amber Valley Community Safety Partnership to produce an information leaflet which explains the law around riding vehicles such as go-peds, scooters, mini motos, motorbikes and scramblers. Along with advice to riders, the booklet also features information to sellers, to land owners, residents and also parents who might be thinking of buying one for their teenager. Vehicles including mini-motos, go-peds, scooters, motorbikes or scramblers cannot be used on footpaths and cycle routes and they must be taxed, licensed and insured for use on public roads. Bikes can be seized, scrapped and the riders or owners given a fine if they are used illegally. Residents who are concerned about this type of issue are encouraged to make a note of as many details as they can about the incident, from the times dates and locations, to the type or model of bike and colour, and if possible a description of any riders. Please report any information you have to police on 101, the non emergency number, or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 so that we can take appropriate action against any riders causing a nuisance or using their bikes illegally in your neighbourhood. If you would like to get hold of a leaflet please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team on 101, the non emergency number for Derbyshire police, or visit Amber Valley Borough Council’s website: www.ambervalley.gov.uk

Carla’s Choice I just wanted to let our readers know about a full body massage that I received with Heather at Body & Sole recently. Massages aren’t usually my thing but after being presented with a voucher as a gift for my birthday I thought it would be rude not to. Heather was amazing and is fantastic at what she does. She clearly knows her stuff and I felt in such good hands, (excuse the pun) that I didn’t want it to end. Heather has an array of treatments available and I will definitely be visiting her soon for all my pampering needs. Thanks Heather xx

10 We have renamed the dog walk as we are venturing beyond the Amber Valley to bring you the best walks in your local area. As usual there will be plenty of chances to let your dog off the lead but take care on roads and around livestock. We’d like to thank Jill and David Hallam from JH Legal Services for contributing this fantastic walk. If you know of a nice walk in the local area that you would like to share, please get in touch. Follow the path up hill to a T-junction and turn right. Follow the path ahead and then down into a dip and up the other side. At the very end of the woodland, pass through a gate and onto a lane. 3. Follow the lane straight ahead passing a cottage on the left. Further on you will reach ‘Norwood Barn’ on the left. Here take the sign posted footpath through the large wooden gate to the left. Now come on - admit it - when the radio plays your favourite track, or you’re indulging in a great rousing CD, you do actually wriggle those hips a little - or even succumb to dancing round the kitchen, leaping round the bedroom and shimmying round the lounge?

his treatment my fingers were sinking into soft toffee instead of hard caramel! Holiday time is another great way of converting your body and mind into pliable mode instead of pent-up tension. We all feel better for the sunshine and a break and it is transporting this into everyday life winter AND summer that is the trick to a more balanced life and feeling more relaxed and self fulfilled. Whilst holidaying very regularly isn’t for everyone taking a day off to walk/cycle one of the lovely tracks we have in the area, or start walking and cycling to work so you can get a break on a daily basis can make a real difference. It’s about considering changing habits which can make all the difference to our joints, muscles, general and mental health...so on that note, I better get on my bike…

And why not? Apart from the sheer exuberance of just ‘letting go’ which is great for releasing stress, the, sometimes erratic movement is a great antidote to the ‘chair position’ ingrained in many people in their working day. Just getting up and moving and putting your body in positions you wouldn’t encounter in your day to day potterings, keeps a good range of movement in your joints even in your 40’s you can start to stiffen and it really IS a case of use it, or lose it! And if dancing really isn’t your thing consider - anything which makes you stretch. Recently I was amazed at the difference in a patient when he was made redundant. His previously locked up shoulders and neck which had needed monthly maintenance and numerous exercises to keep mobile, suddenly freed up as he was no longer staring at a computer screen 9-5pm. Instead, he was moving: decorating his house, walking more and generally giving his body time to relax. The difference was staggering: less muscle pain only a healthy glow of exercised muscles, and so pliable during
