Editor’s Message I know I’m not supposed to talk about the weather (sorry Aunty Dawn) but we’ve done a few evening walks already (the clocks haven’t gone forward at the time of writing, so it’s a much bigger deal than it may appear!!). On the note of ‘sunshine and light’,
BERGary ROOFING had some positive responses last month… which is unusual! Not that I’m encouraging him to be more controversial, (like he listens to me anyway!) but it is nice that people are sending in suggestions of subjects for him to write about and I always forward them on, so keep sending them in please. Same goes for Cooper’s Corner, who is licking his wounds this month along with the other Forest fans. We love all of your feedback and contributions, so please do keep getting involved. That reminds me; we are posting regularly our Facebook page, so if you haven’t already… pop over and give us a like, please ☺ I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce a new member of the Voice Mags team, David. He is working on our sales and marketing and he has settled into the team like an old slipper! He is super friendly and hopefully brings the ‘organised’ to my creative chaos, fingers crossed that we complement each other and make Voice mags even bigger and better. Obviously I’ll still be here as ever but it will give me the opportunity to continue developing some other elements of Voice Mags I’ve wanted to explore for ages. Whilst we are on new things… Dogs Unleashed have sent us a family ticket to this year’s dog show. All you need to do to win this family pass is find the 3 doggy items throughout the mag and send me the page numbers by the 30 th April to emily@ voicemagazines.co.uk. The winner will be announced in the June magazine, it really is a great event for all doggy lovers! On a personal note, I’d like to say that I had a quiet March, but it wouldn’t be true! Some of it work based and some of it social but between the two, I don’t think I had many weekends free. April is looking much the same, especially with a Derby 10k run to do… a tortoise plodding through treacle springs to mind. What’s more, the training was going pretty well, until the snowboarding injuries hit and by the time I could run again, I’d gotten out of the running habit and into the chocolate habit. I may struggle to run within the time limit on this occasion…these things always seem like such a good idea when I sign up to them!! Happy Reading,
Emily x

Cooper’s Corner Follow Barry on Twitter @bazdjcooper Here is a theme any football fan (who has been around the block more than once) can identify with; the love/hate relationship they have with their club. I’m feeling Barry’s pain here and whilst the Derby fans amongst us may take this opportunity to crow, be careful as I’ve heard what goes around comes around. LOVING a football club is a strange thing, unlike any other relationship you’ll ever have in your life. If you’re in an unhappy relationship, most people would try and get out and make themselves happy again, but when it comes to a football club, that isn’t how it works. In fact, you get more involved, keep paying more money and your love grows stronger, and despite the fact you probably feel more disillusioned and angry, you keep coming back for more.
Forest fans do have an ideology of what they like to see, based around what Brian Clough’s teams achieved over 30 years ago. But, as Sam Allardyce would often say when he was criticised as manager at Upton Park: what is the West Ham way? Losing?
A constant it has been, a pleasure it has not.
He was right, and that has been the case here. For the last 20 years or so, Forest’s style of football has certainly not been winning. The manager of this club needs to find winning football, consistently. Unfortunately for Freedman, his style of football never filled the majority of supporters with excitement and that proved to be part of his downfall.
Once again, we find ourselves writing, reading and watching this famous old club dragged through the gutter, with everybody and their dog standing there with a loaded gun ready to fire as many shots as they can at a club that is at one of the lowest ebbs in recent memory.
When fans expect a certain brand of football, and you play another, results are vital. If they go for you then the strategy is fine but, as soon as defeats come, then it’s easy for fans to point fingers especially when they lack of a back-up plan is apparent.
This was always going to be a season of hardship given the injury list that it started with, plus the obvious constraints of a transfer embargo. But with how the club appears to be run, Forest are basically the shell of a mini egg without the chocolate filled centre.
Whether it was right or wrong to sack Freedman, and everybody will have their own view on that, it isn’t hard to see why a change was made when you take those things into account.
Bizarre, isn’t it? That’s how I would sum up my feelings in recent weeks about Nottingham Forest, a club which has probably been the one single constant in my life, especially my adult life.
I can’t say it was a surprise to see Dougie Freedman removed from his position as manager in mid-March. The Scot was never a long-term appointment. Deep down he knew it, the media
6
knew it and, most probably, the players knew it. Few would have been surprised had he been dismissed after the Derby game in November, but Forest won and that sparked the team into life to go on a fine unbeaten run almost straight after.
Fawaz Al Hasawi wants Forest to be successful – of course he does – but until such time as he installs a proper football structure at what is fast becoming a tired, decrepit and unloved City Ground, the cycle of change will continue and hamper any progress this once great club will make.

Police officers in the amber Valley are asking local PeoPle for their helP to helP target crime in the commUnity
Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in the area hope to encourage residents to come forward with information to Crimestoppers by raising awareness of the organisation and how it works. Crimestoppers is an independent charity set up to help locate criminals and solve crimes. They operate an anonymous phone number, 0800 555 111, which people can call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to pass on information about crime. Alternatively people can send information to Crimestoppers anonymously through their website. You don’t have to give your name or any of your personal details and they do not trace calls or track computer IP addresses. The information is then passed on to the police after it has been thoroughly checked by the Crimestoppers team to ensure there is no way in which a person’s identity could be linked. sgt. neil milner, who is charge of the Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in the area, said: “Often people don’t want to come to us with information, as they are worried that their identity would be revealed. “That’s why we want to let people know more about Crimestoppers. This charity provides an invaluable service by helping us keep the community safe. It gives people with information about criminal activity an opportunity to pass it on, without living in fear of the consequences.” rewards are also available in those cases where information leads to an arrest and charge. For information about Crimestoppers, see their website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. You can also report information directly to the police about crime by calling the non-emergency number, 101, except in an emergency when you should call 999.

AFTER Call MIKE on: 0787 527 6886
You’ve scuffed the car, kerbed an alloy wheel, or some inconsiderate person has scratched and dented your car door and you are now fed up. An insurance claim seems over the top, and anyway your excess is quite high and it will ruin your no claims. Your local garage wants a fortune to repair it, and also want to keep the car for a week. You would be so happy if someone could just come along and fix it for a reasonable price without the inconvenience of losing your car. Well MDR PAINTTECHNICS can! We are Mobile Automotive Refinishers – in layman’s terms that means we carry out minor bodywork repairs quickly and conveniently at your home or work premises. In most cases we can provide a quote by e-mail or telephone and if it is more complicated we’ll come to you to provide a free estimate. All we need is a safe place to work and an electricity point and your car can be quickly repaired whilst you carry on with your life. Scuffs and scrapes, vandal scratches, alloy wheel repairs and small accident damage can all be fixed, often for less than your insurance excess and at a time and place convenient to you. We come to you to save you time and money.

Rambles with Rafa It’s Rafa’s favourite time of year being a spRInger spaniel and not just because of the bad pun but because of the bright, sunny, fresh and longer days. This month’s walk is perfect for this time of year, with some lovely trails, great views and a nice length to get you stretching your legs again. We enjoyed it massively so another big thankyou to David from JH Legal.
5.5 mile circular from pleasley Church
A mid-length walk for you and your dog! This walk is fairly flat and should take around 2½ hours to complete. There is a range of terrain, with some muddy and uneven sections and a few sections of road, so take plenty of care and make sure you wear appropriate footwear. Start: Church of St. Michael, Church La. Pleasley, Mansfield, Notts. NG19 7TD. 1.
Standing on the road with your back to the church, turn right along the road to the very end. Then take the footpath on the right hand side of the road and follow it uphill and round to the left. Where the path splits take the right fork and pass beneath a pedestrian flyover.
2.
Continue along the path beside a dual carriageway. After a short distance turn left onto a signposted footpath down some steps. At the bottom of the steps turn right and then after a very short distance at a T junction of paths turn left.
3.
Continue to pass through a metal width restrictor and then continue for some distance until reaching a path on your right. Turn right along the path going uphill with a stone wall on your right.
4.
At the top of the hill the path joins with another path. Continue straight to pass over a bridge, past a sign for ‘Mansfield’ on your left and after some distance past a footpath sign on your right. Continue straight and eventually pass underneath a stone arch bridge and then further on pass by a metal gate. After a short distance you will reach a road. Turn left along the road.
5.
Continue along the road until reaching some houses on your left. At this point turn right along a single track road signposted for ‘St. Chad’s Church’. When you reach the church on your right continue straight ahead to cross over a metal stile onto a signposted footpath. Continue straight keeping a river over to your left.
6.
After some distance you will reach a T junction with a lane. Turn right along the lane and after a short distance pass underneath a railway bridge. After this follow the lane around to the right and continue along the lane for some distance until passing through a metal gate onto a road.
7.
Turn right along the road and after a short distance the road turns into a lane. Continue straight passing a ‘public bridleway’ signpost on your right and then further on pass a ‘public footpath’ signpost on your right.

9.
Continue along the footpath and cross over a railway bridge. After cross over a stile and continue with a fence on your left. After crossing a 2nd stile continue until reaching a tarmac lane. Continue straight along the tarmac lane until reaching a road. Cross straight over the road and continue along a single track road. Continue straight to the very end of the road and pass through a metal width restrictor onto a footpath.
10. Continue uphill with a hedge on both sides and then upon reaching a T junction of paths, turn right to pass through a metal gate and cross an open field. At the far side of the field pass through a gap in the hedge to cross another open field. At the far side of this field upon reaching a lane, turn right along the lane and then immediately left to
skirt along the edge of a field with a hedge on your left. 11. Continue to a large opening in the hedge on your left. At this point turn left to continue uphill along the edge of a field with a hedge on your right. At the top of the hill pass a yellow marker post on your left and continue to cross another field. 12. At the far side of this field pass a yellow marker post on your right, cross straight over a lane and continue downhill to cross another field. 13. At the far side of the field head into some trees and then down some steps onto a road. Turn right along the road to eventually pass back underneath the pedestrian flyover and follow the path around to the right back to the church.
This walk is for illustrative purposes only. Voice Magazines takes no responsibility for anyone who chooses to follow this route and encourages all walkers to obey all byelaws and signs and to respect the area they are walking in, ensuring they pick up all dog mess and obey the countryside code at all times.

Essentials Review
19/03/2016 17:00
So last month I spoke to Chris at Essentials who told me about these new candle melts called ‘Wonky Melts’. Well, I can’t beat a good candle in the evenings with a glass of wine, so I said “tell me more!” Next day he pops into the office with a bag full of Wonky Melts and me and Michelle (from J H Legal), set about sniffing them all! They were absolutely delicious with a varied range of fragrances from bubblegum to JPG (perfume) to English pear and freesia (one of our favourites!). We selected quite a few between us, paid Chris (making sure our voucher was valid!)… at £4 each with 10% off, we couldn’t grumble. Now, I’ve tried sands and all sorts when it comes to scent burners and I’ve always found that at best they have the life of tea light until the fragrance dissipates. In fairness, I’m 3 weeks in and I keep replacing the tea light and the fragrance is still going strong. So I can’t recommend Wonky Melts highly enough. What’s more, Chris at Essentials is our only local stockist, so get yourself and your voucher down to Alfreton Market today and try these out, they really are very impressive. I’m looking forward to trying the pick & mix version next.

Louise’s TraveL Page HI my name is Louise and I would like to welcome you to my monthly travel page. I have lived in the village most of my life and worked in travel for 30 years. Each month I will bring you the latest travel news and information to help you with your holiday or business trip. I am also a fellow member of the Institute of Travel and Tourism so you know you are in very safe hands.
Did you know I do business travel tips too?
For many years now I have looked after one of the countries most loved companies that has its head office within our local area. I look after all their UK business trips and also their overseas ones, even looking after the travellers that are based overseas. Business travel is the fastest growing part of my business with me booking several trips a week. I am local and get to know your wants and needs so that your business trip is just as personal to you as your holiday would be. “We always work with Louise to book our business travel, safe in the knowledge that she will take care of every element of the trip for us. We’re always really impressed about the fact that she takes the care and time to get to know our preferences and remember them for future bookings, whether it’s a particular hotel or airline that we like, down to the seat type or meal options we prefer, which makes the trip so much easier and more comfortable and enjoyable. And a huge benefit for the business is that Louise is able to take advantage of exclusive airline fares, which has saved us so much more money than if we’d booked it ourselves online, so a win-win all round!” Catherine Fox Marketing and Events Manager If you would like to meet me for a chat to discuss your plans, I now have an office in the South Normanton Business Centre and would love to have a cuppa with you to talk about how I can help you. I am available 7 days a week to take your enquiries and 24/7 whilst you are away in the event of an emergency. For all your travel needs, business or leisure please call me on 01773 318910 / 07973 306280 or email me louise.cutting@travelcounsellors.com and experience the very best in customer service.

Slimming World Beef Lasagne Lasagne is a firm favourite of mine so when I found out there was a Slimming World recipe I was desperate to share it with you. Great when served with a salad and plenty to fill up the whole family. Give it a try and let me know how you get on.
Beef Lasagne
IngredIents: (Serves 4) Ready in 30-60 minutes • 500g lean beef mince (5% fat or less) • 400g can chopped tomatoes
• 2 eggs, lightly beaten
• 1 red pepper, deseeded and cut into • 400g passata bite-sized pieces • 2 tsp dried mixed herbs • 1 courgette, cut into bite-sized cubes • Low calorie cooking spray
• A pinch of nutmeg
• 1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
• 4 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
• 500g fat free natural yogurt
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper • 12 dried lasagne sheets • 160g reduced-fat cheddar cheese
Method:
1. Place a large, non-stick frying pan over a high heat. Add the beef mince, red pepper, courgettes, onion and garlic and stirfry for 6-8 minutes. Add the tomatoes, passata and dried herbs, season well and cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring often. 2. Meanwhile mix together the yogurt, eggs and nutmeg until smooth. Season well. 3. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C Fan/Gas 6. Spray a medium-sized lasagne dish with low calorie cooking spray. Spoon half the mince mixture into the base and top with half of the lasagne sheets. Spread over half of the yogurt mixture and top with the remaining mince mixture. Top with the remaining lasagne sheets, spread over the remaining yogurt mixture and sprinkle over the cheese. 4. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden. Remove from the oven and serve immediately with the mixed salad.

Gardener’s Calendar ~ April 2016 This is the time for sowing, growing, seeding – and stopping the slugs and weeds. Lawns will repay the attention you give them now. If it’s warmish and not too wet you can start sowing new lawns or seeding over dead patches. Otherwise leave it till it warms up a bit so the seed has the best chance to germinate. Don’t walk on newly sown grass till it is about 2 or three inches high. Tender new plants are super attractive to slugs. There’s lots of branded slug pellets around – some chemical, some such as wool pellets, natural. Which you use will depend on how you feel about using chemicals and whether you want to avoid animals and small children coming into contact with them. You can use a drench which will kill slugs beneath the ground and if you are planting in pots, copper tape is available which slugs dislike crossing. You can also use no-cost old favourites such as crumbled eggshells, but these do need to be fairly thickly layered around plants. Best of luck. While you can sow hardy annuals such as marigold, poppies and nigella direct into the ground now, don’t forget that you need to thin them out to get big healthy plants. If you go for the easier option of buying tender bedding plants, don’t put them out until all danger of frost is past. They look tempting in the garden centre, but unless they’re hardy like pansies, they’ll succumb to the coldest nights.
Top Tip!
If you have problems with hard to eradicate weeds such as ground elder you can attack them by painting a systemic weed killer onto the leaves when the weather is dry.

Gary’s Grumbles This month our very own Nick Robinson gives us the low down on the topical and political hot potato which is the EU. With a referendum looming in June, I have to say, Gary’s take on the situation is about as balanced as I have seen reported in the general media so far! Take the usual pinch of salt & the views expressed in this article etc etc!
I mentioned the referendum a couple of issues ago and here’s what I’ve since learned from the campaign so far. If we stay in, the stock market will crash, there’ll be loads of job losses and the country will descend into anarchy, however, if we come out then well, the stock market will crash, there’ll be loads of job losses and the country will descend into anarchy. Not much of a choice really is it? Project Fear is what it’s been labelled. I’ve also discovered that if we vote to stay in then children who walk to school will need to wear crash helmets and padded clothing just to be on the safe side, the legal limit for drinkers, per week, per unit, per pint of blood will be 100ml of red wine or lager and a glass of water or Lucozade and anyone wearing clothes with a made in China label will be forced to murder their first born child. The good news is that if we come out then we can start singing ‘two world wars and one world cup, do, da, do, da’ again, we’ll be able to buy bent bananas/carrots/black pudding and, best of all we can stop buying lengths of wood that are 2 Metres long and 3x2 inches thick. The other surprising thing is how different the 2 main men in the campaign are, on one side we have a posh boy from a rich and privileged background who went to Eton and was a member of the Bullingdon club which entailed quaffing champers and being nasty to their fags. That’s the Mayor of London,
Boris Johnson by the way and he wants out. On the other side is the Prime minister Mr Cameroon who also went to Eton and is from a ……………. It’s Rubbish isn’t it? The arguments are the same and the only differences in the protagonists are their hairstyles. Which leads neatly on to another Political hairstyle, Donald Fart, yes he could become President of the good old U S of A. I’m incredulous, to think that they could vote in a bigger joke than Ronnie Reagan. It’s also entirely feasible that Boris Johnson could be our next PM, can you imagine the summit meetings? Top of the agenda would be split ends and what conditioner to use. World war 3 could well start when they welcome the Russian President with the words ‘hello Baldy’. I’ve mentioned pot holes before and if there’s anyone from the local council reading this could I make you aware of the sinkhole that has developed on Hickton Rd it’s deeper than Gibbo’s pockets and is a danger to anyone on 2 wheels. It’s dangerous and someone is going to come a cropper, if it happens to you, then you can use my evidence, but I will be wanting a percentage. Finally a message to my Friend Stuart Walters (bestest carpet fitter in Western Europe) I’m afraid I didn’t have space to talk about our Monday night curry club. Maybe next time.
