Editor’s Message Poor Rafa is in the wars at the moment which has taken up an awful lot of my time of late! He’s had an occasional limp for a little while which got a lot worse, so he had to go for a scan which involves an anaesthetic. Whilst he was out, we decided to have some lumps removed, which the vet advised removing at his last medical (honestly, this dog is better looked after than I look after myself!). Well, the scan revealed our worst nightmare, a broken cruciate ligament, which bearing in mind he is only a 7 year old springer, they recommend a big operation to fix it... minimal walks until the op (2 weeks away) and then very minimal walks thereafter for about 6-8 weeks. The lumpectomy went well... well, except the stitches on his ribs that pulled apart L ...long story short, Raf now has a hole in his side and has to be watched 24/7 to make sure he doesn’t get it infected (no, they can’t bandage it or put anything over the top and yes, at one point you could see his ribs underneath). To make matters worse we had to set back the op for his leg by another 2 weeks! He’s being a brave soldier though and he asked his mate Tilly to step in to do his rambles until he is back in action, which she is taking very seriously! Anyhoo, this month sees lots of new people to the Voice Magazines party! So remember to support these wonderful local businesses doing a good job and don’t forget to tell others about the good service you get by sending me in readers recommends please. In other news, Gary is narked with me, Barry is a little bit psychic, we have another competition and the Europe referendum should now be becoming a distant memory... one way or another!

Anthony Hewkin started Arctic Interiors in 2008, having decided to strike out on his own after honing his skills first as a designer for a kitchen company, then learning his trade making and fitting units. 8 years later Artic Interiors boast a growing reputation, so we thought it was time we told you a bit more about this fantastic local business.
In any job Anthony’s first visit will involve taking the measurements and getting a good understanding of what the client wants, before heading back to his office to draw the project to scale and supply a quote with a 3D imagery of how it will look. This is all part of the free consultation that takes place, with the next about discussing the options, samples and practicalities before the work begins. As well as a bespoke service one of the best aspects of Arctic Interiors is that you get showroom options and quality but without the price tag. Anthony will be that one point of contact that manages and undertakes the whole process. Bringing his invaluable expertise and experience Anthony has the knowledge and skills from the technical drawings to the practical applications. He tiles, does all the carpentry and fitting, and pretty much everything except electrics and anything that needs gas safe registering qualification, which he has a team of reliable tradespeople that he can call on for.
10% off everything with this article on any work ordered before the 1st September!
Depending on the size of the job, the versatility of Arctic Interiors means that it can expand and retract the team as required and the consumer will not be incurring any unnecessary costs! When you see the advert for Arctic Interiors you probably immediate think of Kitchens and Bedrooms but you may not know that they also love to work on built-in bathrooms, home offices and sliding doors! Anthony really enjoys the variety of his work because each project is so different and in his words: “bringing the whole project to life is really satisfying”. Whether your home is being renovated or just needs a face lift, Arctic Interiors is the company to contact for showroom class and quality at affordable prices.

The Homesford Cottage Tea Rooms & Textile Workshop
Tea Rooms & Textile Workshop A visit to
Homesford Tearooms
I implore everyone to visit this wonderful secluded gem! Situated just of the A6 at Homesford Matlock (DE4 5HJ). Homesford Tea Rooms & Textile Workshop is so much more than a place you pop into for a nice cuppa! All the food that you eat (and believe me, you won’t be able to resist) is home made. The desserts are outstanding with such a large choice to choose from classics to something a little more unique. What’s more, they also provide a gluten free option which can be tricky to find! Becky (the owner) prides herself on providing traditional food with a vintage twist and she really brings this to life with the décor. As I said earlier, there is much more to Homesford because it is also a Textile Workshop when the tea shop isn’t open. There is regularly a workshop taking place when the tearoom is closed to the general public. For example; Winnie Wagtail Workshop, Recycling with Paint on Glass, is taking place on Tuesday 5th July from 10am until 4pm. You will have lots of fun decorating glass accessories to match your room with Annie Sloane chalk paint. Most months they have a workshop taking place and August will host a Willow Weaving Workshop. You only have to look at the beautiful dress at the entrance, which can be made to measure from original and vintage patterns by Becky personally upon request or attend one of their dress making workshops, to see what can be achieved at these events! Having a gathering? Why not hire out the tearoom with the exquisite catering, to celebrate that special event in a truly personal fashion. Homesford Tea Rooms really is one of Derbyshire’s must visit places and just to ensure that you do, next month we will be starting and ending the Rafa’s Rambles from there. Just in case this place wasn’t perfect enough, you can also take your furry friends in with you!
Thursdays 11am until 5pm Fridays 9:30am until 5pm Saturdays 9:30am until 6pm Sundays 9:30am until 5pm We are open more frequently during School holidays, see our FB site for more details on times and workshops or contact us –

Slimming World Recipe
BBQ Pulled Pork This recipe is an ideal summer sandwich filler to compliment all those barbeques you’ll be having. So easy to prepare, then just leave it in the slow cooker overnight or whilst out at work. Perfect served in a wholemeal bun, with some homemade Slimming World coleslaw. Check out the Slimming World website for more recipes and where to find your local group.
Method:
1. In a small bowl, mix passata, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweetener and seasoning. Transfer to a small pan and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens. 2. Meanwhile, trim and remove all visible fat from the pork and sear all sides in a hot frying pan. Transfer to a slow cooker coat with the sauce and cook for 8-12 hours on LOW. 3. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place on a cutting board. Allow the meat to cool for approximately 15 minutes, then shred into bite-sized pieces using two forks. 4. Remove the sauce from the pan and set aside to drizzle on the meat later. Free on Extra Easy. AVVM0043 (Oven Clean Advert).pdf 1 21/07/2014 For more information visitQ www.slimmingworld.co.uk

Give a dog a home... Jerry Green Dog Rescue, care for and rehome abandoned and unwanted dogs, and will never put a dog to sleep unless it’s health or temperament make this the kindest option. We receive no official funding, or lottery funding and are dependent on donations from the public. We run five centres in the east of England, including your nearest one in Nottinghamshire at Warsop Lane, Bildworth, NG21 0PG. We are open 1:30pm to 4:00pm every day except Wednesday.
Diesel
3 years 10 months Boxer crossbreed Diesel is fine with older children 10 years + Diesel hasn’t had much socialising with other dogs and can be very excited when meeting them, we feel at this stage he would be better rehomed as the only dog in the home until he has had more training when meeting new dogs. Diesel is housetrained and can be left alone. He is very friendly and enjoys attention and long walks. Diesel has a grade 2 heart murmur that doesn’t affect him currently but will not be covered on insurance.
Obi
2 years 6 months Lurcher Obi has been good with children and has lived with a cat previously. He is vocal initially when he first meets dogs and will bark when he is on the lead. With gentle introductions Obi is friendly and playful. Obi is house-trained and can be left for short periods, if he is bored he may chew so plenty of enrichment would be necessary.
To enquire about adopting a dog, make a donation or for any enquiry please contact us: t: 01623 792 886 e: notts@jerrygreendogs.co.uk

illy Rambles with T Rafa This month we have a substitute for Rafa who is recovering from a recent operation, which is a shame as he would have loved this perfect summer walk as Tilly told him when she got back. People travel from around the world to see the Major Oak. So, if you haven’t been yourself yet, what better way to see it then on one of our fantastic walks?! There is a visitor’s centre to stop at and good pubs and restaurants in Edwinstowe to quench your thirst or stop for a bite to eat. So why not make a day of it? Thanks again go to David from JH legal for another amazing walk.
6 mile circular from Edwinstowe via the Major Oak
A moderate walk for you and your dog! This walk is fairly flat and should take around 2½ hours to complete. There is a range of terrain, with some possibly muddy and uneven sections. There are a few sections of road, so take plenty of care.

Start: Jubilee Park, Trinity Road, Edwinstowe. Notts. NG21 9RW To find the car park take the first right-hand turn off Trinity Road, just before some flats. Pass through the flats car park into the ‘JubileePark’ car park. 1.
From the car park take the tarmac path heading towards a recreation ground and passing by a sign board on your left reading ‘Jubilee Park’. Follow the tarmac path until reaching a circular children’s play area directly in front of you. Follow the tarmac path around to the left of the play area and at the far side bear right along a path until reaching a gap in the hedge.
2.
Pass through the gap and onto a lane. Turn left along the lane and continue until the lane bears sharp right. Continue around to the right and now continue straight ahead with a hedge on your right.
3.
Continue until you reach some trees and then pass by a yellow marker post on your right. Continue straight ahead with trees on your left and open fields on your right.
4.
After some time you will reach a T junction with a lane. Turn right and go gently uphill along the lane. At the top of the hill pass some stables on your left and then ‘The Archway House’ on your right. After, continue straight along the lane for some distance until reaching a main road.
5.
Cross the road diagonal left, pass through a gap and then turn immediately right along a trail signposted for ‘Sherwood Forest’. For a short distance the trail runs parallel with the road and then a very short distance after passing over a crossroads of paths the trail bends sharp to the left.
6.
Follow the trail around to the left and then continue for some distance and pass over a crossroads of paths signposted for ‘bridleway’ and ‘Sherwood Forest’.
7.
Continue straight to the top of a hill and then at a crossroads of footpaths turn right signposted for ‘Visitor Centre’. Ignoring all other footpaths to the left and right continue for a long distance until reaching a T junction of paths. At this point turn right and pass by The Major Oak on your left.
8.
Follow this path staying close to a wooden fence on your left. Continue straight ahead ignoring all other paths to the left and right until you reach the entrance to the visitor centre on your left. At this point bear right towards a car park and after a short distance pass by a large information board on your left. After cross over two zebra crossings and follow the signs for the cricket ground.
9.
Continue straight ahead and eventually pass the cricket ground on the left and a fairground on the right. Continue straight to pass through a small car park and onto a road.
10.
Turn left along the road until reaching a T junction with a main road. Turn right along the main road and continue straight ahead to pass through a set of traffic lights onto Edwinstowe High Street.
11.
Continue straight along the road for some distance until crossing over a river bridge. A short distance after the bridge turn right along ‘Mill Road’. Continue along Mill Road for some distance and then just prior to a ‘national speed limits’ sign and railway bridge turn right along a signposted ‘Bridleway’.
12.
Continue along the bridleway with a river on your right. After some distance cross over a wooden river bridge and then continue straight ahead until reaching a hedgerow directly in front of you. At this point turn right along a lane and continue with the hedge on your left.
13.
After a very short distance the lane bends sharp to the left. Follow the lane around to the left and continue straight ahead until reaching a gap in the hedge on your right. Pass through the gap and back into Jubilee Park. Retrace your steps back to the carpark.

Gardener’s Calendar ~ July 2016 This is usually the time of year when most heavy work and planting is over in the garden and you can sit in a deckchair with a glass of something cool and enjoy the results. But there are still a few things to keep an eye on. If your lawn starts to dry out you can help it by not mowing too short. However, brown patches may not look brilliant, but they are generally not a major threat to the life of the grass and it will usually recover in autumn. However if you have reseeded or planted new turf this year, you do need to keep it watered so that the roots get a chance to establish in this first year. To keep a constant production of flowers you need to trick your plants. As soon as the flowers have gone over and seeds are produced, the plant thinks it’s done its job (which is in plant terms to ensure long-term survival through production of seed for the next growing season, not a lovely garden for you!). This means it stops trying so hard. Deadheading once flowers have finished means no seed is set and they have to keep producing. And you get your lovely garden… If you’ve planted alpines in pots you may find they start to develop bald spots in their central areas. This is often because they’ve dried off. Infill with gritty compost and this should encourage new growth – and it also looks like you’ve designed things that way!
Top Tip!
Water heavily rather than little and often. This will encourage deep roots down into moist soil or compost. Otherwise you finish up with shallow surface roots which are vulnerable to very dry weather and will weaken the plant.

Gary’s Grumbles What Gary writes is often very funny, sometimes serious, sometimes tongue in cheek. My responsibility is firstly to make sure that what he writes doesn’t break any laws and secondly and more trickily, when it does risk offending or upsetting people to decide if it is worth that risk… So I’ve censored a couple of bits this month based on previous emails I’ve received... I don’t think it went down well!
I got censored by Emily this month so had to take a couple of terms out. Ouch.
stadium is fantastic, even if the price of a pint was a bit too much for me to swallow.
So it looky likey that Cliff won’t be charged after all, well congratulations to the bachelor boy who can now look forward to enjoying his summer holiday. In other news it would seem that Clement Freud has been found out as something of a scoundrel, who’d have thought it. I’ve mentioned it before but do you think it’s a case that all dirty pervs become pop stars/ disc jockeys/weathermen/politicians? Or is that somehow stardom offers so much opportunity that they soon get bored and try a bit of (CENSORED)? I don’t know but lets out em all and (CENSORED).
Wouldn’t be a ‘grumble’ without a mention of the weather and what ought to become known as the June monsoon, every year we seem to have a week of what used to be called April showers but the trouble is they aren’t showers they’re downpours and they aren’t in April they’re in June. Over the last 2 weeks I’ve been drenched 6 or 7 times, I’ve got a cold and I’m not happy. Can somebody sort it out please?
By now you’ll know the outcome of the in out. in out, shake it all about vote, my cynical prediction is that vote out gets about 55% but somehow out of the blue there’s an unknown rule that says we have to vote again and again until the money men get the vote that want. I am a cynic aren’t I? I think the low point of the campaign has been mardy bum Osborne telling the country that if they have the temerity to vote out then he’ll put everyone’s taxes up. What a creepy lookalike Caesar he is. Vote as I say or it’ll cost you mer, mer, me, mer, mer. My last prediction didn’t come off as my beloved Owls lost to the poorly supported Hull City (Tigers), but that’s football, you win you lose and you get back up again. Good day out though and the
The euros seem to have got off to a good start and I’m talking footy not the currency, Engerlund have just given the Welsh a reyt good licking which left me in a state of flux as I’d drawn Wales in the sweep at the Gate. I’m a Yorkshireman so being patriotic takes a back seat when there’s a chance of winning a couple of quid. In the interests of fair play and so as I don’t get a clip from Mandy at the Steampacket I also had a go at the sweep there, its sealed envelopes though so you don’t know who you’ve drawn, it’s so exciting. Talking of Mandy it’s worth a visit to the Packet just to see one of her jumpers. And Finally, I saw a clean shaven young bloke the other day walking through Swanwick, no piercings and no tats. It was quite a strange sight but he was with a very good looking girl. Think about it lads.
If on the off chance, you would like Gary to write about something in particular, feel free to contact Emily on info@voicemagazines.co.uk or 01773 604 178 / 07891 639 638 The views expressed in the column above are those of the author only and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of Amber Valley Media

Man dy ’s Travel Page Hi I’m Mandy your Personal Travel Counsellor based in Alfreton. I’m very lucky in my job that I get to visit lots of amazing places, but the one I am looking forward to going back to is Dubai. I have been just once on a cruise and it gave me just enough of a taste that I can’t wait to go back. Dubai and its neighbour Abu Dhabi are the ‘in’ places to visit right now for every kind of holidaymaker, not just the jet set brigade. With so much to do for families with children of all ages, extreme sports for the adventurous, fabulous spa’s, shopping at its very best as well as its culture and heritage, oh and did I mention the year round sunshine? What’s not to love about Dubai & Abu Dhabi? Some top choices for Dubai. Visit Atlantis The Palm for the Aquaventure water park, to swim with dolphins at Dolphin Bay and visit the Lost Chambers aquarium. Afternoon tea at the Burj, winter sports at the Dubai indoor ski club, skydiving, chilling at the beach, desert 4x4 safari. Abu Dhabi is maybe not so well known yet as a holiday destination, but it does have lots to offer. Here are some things you may not know about it. Star Wars the force awakens was partly filmed there. You can visit Ferrari World, the biggest indoor theme park in the World. Yas Island has one of the world’s best Formula 1 circuits and you can do a behind the scenes tour. Yas Waterworld visitors will be able to try the world’s first and largest hydromagnetic-powered six person tornado waterslide. To get a quote or for more information about these great destinations give me a call or drop me a line. I am available 7 days a week to take your enquiries and 24/7 whilst you away in the event of emergency.
