Halloween & Bonfire night is going to be a bit different this year! As I write, it seems awfully likely (as I think everyone predicted), that this virus will kick in again during the coming winter months. Irrespective of anyone’s views, in one way or another, this will affect a lot of people’s lives – be it health (both mentally and physically), income/ job losses, families and issues that many of us will never understand. 2020 has already been a tough road and it’s still pretty rocky. What we do know though is that the clocks will still go back on the 25th October, the world will keep turning, the sun will rise every day and seasons will pass. We all have to stay positive and safe, because what’s the alternative?! It got me thinking this month, this majorly overly used phrase - ‘the new normal?’ Everyone is using it (me included) but consider what your ‘new normal’ looks like? Take some time to consider what ‘normal’ is for you and what you are in such a rush to get back to? Maybe we should take this opportunity to find a ‘better’ normal in future. For as long as we can and for as long as it is safe to do so, we will bring you your monthly magazines. As I’ve said before, all the lovely people inside need your help to keep their businesses going throughout this rocky year and we need those fabulous businesses to keep our business going….almost every business we have spoken with has adopted coronavirus measures to their businesses to allow them to still be able to trade – so please keep them going.

If we do go missing for a month or so, you know why! But, we’ve popped a nice little walk in, some puzzles and articles to keep you going. Until the next time, Stay safe,

Emily x

How to choose the right Rise and Recline Chair Care100 specialise in Rise and Recline chairs and have a largest selection of rise and recline chairs locally. Kate said “There are many important considerations when buying a rise and recline chair and getting good advice is crucial. Also people also if you have a long term chronic condition or disability, you don’t pay VAT on these chairs” To be comfortable, a chair needs to give you support where you need it. When you are buying a chair, give yourself time to sit in it for as long as possible. In the right chair •

you should be able to sit with your bottom right at the back of the seat and your feet flat on the floor

your thighs should be level and your lower legs straight up and down

you should be able to get two fingers between your knees and the seat

the seat should be wide enough to fit you but not so wide that it doesn’t offer you any support

Single or Dual Motor A single motor will lift your feet up and then gently recline the back. On a chair with a dual motor, the footrest and the back are operated by 2 different motors and will give you more choices of sitting positions. There are now chairs with added lumbar support and head supporters. Ask for advice when you phone or call in to Care100 to try the wide selection of chairs

Lisa is fighting fit and raring to go as the Peak Districts newest Slimming World Consultant

Hello my names Lisa, I’m the newest Consultant to join the Slimming world team in the peaks.

Before

After

I’ve been a consultant for 8 years in Somerset after losing 6st and finding my love of life and gaining so much confidence. Filling up on all my favourite foods like curry, roast dinners and pasta dishes was just heaven and still being able to enjoy a glass or two of my fav tipple meant i was able to live my life and lose weight. I also found a love of cycling and have since started doing charity rides across the world to raise money for woman’s cancers. I moved here in January and was so excited to take on the Thursday morning Group in Matlock at the church in the peak lime tree road. And from Saturday 3rd October I will be looking after the Saturday members in the same venue I’m so excited I get to help more people from the area. We are following all government guidelines with Covid and have strict procedures in place. You can book your place by contacting me on 07712 660 014. Come along and find out how you can lose weight, without ever going hungry, but the things could gain will be confidence, better health, skin, a new wardrobe, friends and so much more. Slimming world really has changed my life. What could it do for you?

“I am a local GCSE English teacher. I have to tell you about Sophie who sat her GCSE Language and Literature exams last summer 2019. Sophie lacked confidence, was frustrated and confused. She was routinely getting 2s and 3s for her work but I always felt that Sophie was far better than she believed.” Sophie’s mum took her along to Kip McGrath for an assessment in September 2018 and they began work. “Sophie soon began to feel comfortable and to have a go at things she had been avoiding. Steadily her work improved. By Easter she was improving dramatically. It was lovely to see Sophie full of optimism as she went in to sit her GCSE exams in June.

And the final result?... Sophie thrilled us all by achieving a grade 5 in BOTH English Language and Literature!” Sophie’s mum said “It was rewarding to work with the team at Kip and see the difference we made together.” Well done Sophie! Does this situation sound familiar? Why not bring your child along to Jo at Kip for a FREE assessment and let them be the best at school that they can be. A Derbyshire English Teacher’s Story...

Vintage Rambles a with raFf lake and

This month’s walk is one of our favourites. Unfortunately, the Mill and the Falls at Lumsdale are closed off at the moment as vital preservation work is required. Despite this most of the footpaths are open and this is still a fantastic walk. I have also left the alternative instructions in for the original walk (Point 7a, in red) so you can keep it for when the falls are open again.

3½ mile circular from Tansley Church Via Lumsdale A moderate walk for you and your dog. Although relatively short this walk has some steep inclines/declines. It should take around 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Be careful on roads and as ever make sure you wear a good pair of boots, particularly if it has been wet.

START: Tansley Holy Trinity Church, Church St, Tansley, DE4 5FH 1.

2.

14

Standing at the roadside, with your back to the church, turn right and follow the road, passing a recreation ground on your right. Continue until you see the Gate pub to the left hand side of the road. Turn left just in front of the pub and head uphill along a single track road with a stone wall on either side. Continue straight and over the crest of a hill and down the other side. A short distance after passing a blue sign “unsuitable for goods vehicles” on your right, bear right to pass a stone cottage and then head steep uphill.

3.

When nearing the top of the hill the tarmac road turns into a rough lane. Continue until you see a signposted footpath to your right. Follow the footpath to the right heading uphill and into woodland.

4.

Continue ahead, over a crossing of paths then gently uphill. At a fork in the path bear left. After a short distance the path levels off and has a steep drop to your left. Continue for a short distance until you see a large stone lying just to the left of the path. At this point ignore the path to the right going uphill, instead take the path bearing left and downhill.

Don’t forget to mention Voice Magazines when responding to the Ads

5.

This path will take you closer to the edge of the woodland and has a steep bank to the right. Continue straight until reaching a stone wall on your left and then, keeping the wall on your left, drop gently downhill.

6.

Continue until you reach a river, cross the river via the stepping stones and then turn immediately left long a footpath. Keeping the river on your left continue along the path until reaching a lane. Turn left along the lane and then after a short distance pass a long row of stone cottages.

7.

Immediately after the cottages turn left and then immediate right through a gap in the wall. Keeping a pond on your left continue along a footpath. After the pond, at the barriers, turn right to cross a stone stile, turning left onto a road. Walk ahead, along the road for a short distance, then when the wall ends on the left, turn left downhill on a footpath, past a stone stile. At the bottom of the hill cross a stone stile onto a road. Turn left along the road 7a. (alternative route, when the falls are open) Immediately after the cottages turn left and then immediate right through a gap in the wall. Keeping a pond on your left continue along a footpath. The path begins to descend, twist, turn and thread its way through the remains of the Mill. Keeping the river and waterfall on your left continue downhill until passing through a gap and turn left onto a road

8.

After a short distance after passing the car park/ layby and then at the end of a tall stone wall on your right. Turn sharp right onto a footpath. The path crosses a river. Immediately afterwards turn left onto a footpath heading uphill and into woodland.

9.

After a short distance the path levels out. Continue for some distance keeping the river down to your left. Ignoring a path which bears right towards some houses continue straight and downhill until reaching a T Junction of paths with a large metal fence in front of you.

10.

Turn right, then bear left, keeping the fence on your left. Continue for some distance to pass a recreation ground to your right and then a converted mill to your left. At the end of a tall stone wall and when you see a stone post turn left along a path.

After a short distance pass through a metal gate and onto a lane. Continue to the end of the lane and at a T junction turn left along a road.

12.

Pass the converted mill on your left and some new build houses to your right. Further on your will pass NFU Mutual on your left. Continue along the road with the river on your left and then begin to climb gently. As you climb keep the stone wall on your left and look out for a metal gate on your right leading onto a footpath.

13.

Go through the metal gate and continue straight ahead with a wall on your left, then into an open area (Keep dogs on a lead here as there may be loose farm animals). Cross a stile and continue with a stone wall on your left until the wall ends, then turn left and climb gently with another stone wall on your left.

14.

Continue to pass over a stone bridge. Immediately after the bridge

KIDS & FAMILIES

11.

turn sharp right to follow a footpath with a pond on your left. Continue around the edge of the pond until reaching a road. Turn left along the road going gently uphill and to the right of “Speedwell Mill. 15.

As you climb keep a stream on your right. When you cross over the stream on the road turn right through a gap onto a signposted footpath. Follow this path to the very end and then turn left along a road back to Tansley Church.

This walk is for illustrative purposes only. Voice Magazines takes no responsibility for anyone who chooses to follow this route and encourages all walkers to obey all byelaws and signs and to respect the area they are walking in, ensuring they pick up all dog mess and obey the countryside code at all times.

“Your Discovery Call” Have you heard of NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming? You’re going to want to! It is something that anyone can use to master their mindset, fulfil their potential and live a life as they desire. Think of any successful person and chances are they use NLP. Absolutely any area of your life can be applied. By studying the language we use in our heads (Self talk) we can change the conversation for something that is full of possibilities and far greater outcomes. Henry Ford once said “Weather you think you can or think you can’t, you are right”. When working with me on a private level, we get deep into the way you talk inwardly (Your on head).

And outwardly shake up your yourself in a

Perhaps you have a limiting belief about yourself? Maybe deep down inside you feel you are “Not good enough”, you might even tell people this, you know “Im rubbish at that”. This kind of thought pattern has a negative impact on the way we view ourselves and can stop us getting that job offer, asking the women of your dreams on a date or riding your horse the way you know you can.

Empowering equestrians with their transition to greater confidence WE CAN HELP!

I learned these super powerful techniques after a series of horse riding falls left me frightened to ride again. Im now out riding and getting out to competitions with my horse. Gardener’s Calendar

Bald bits on the lawn can be addressed right now and grass seed is probably the most economical and easiest way of doing it. Rake over the area to be sown to break up where it has got trodden hard. Put a light layer of compost on top and scatter half in one direction then half in the other. Don’t over seed as this actually makes it harder for the seed to take – there’s always instructions on amount to use on the packet. If you can sow after it has rained that’s best, if not, water gently. Then cover with netting so the birds don’t take advantage. Leaf mould is compost for free, so long as you’re fairly patient. In any case you shouldn’t leave leaves to rot on the grass as they will make the green stuff slimy. However you can mow them on the grass to help break them up – especially good idea with larger leaves such as sycamore. Rake the resulting mow up and put in bin liners. Moisten if dry, push holes in to allow air to help the rotting process and hide the bags behind something for up to two years. After a year the resulting partially rotted leaves can be used as mulch or soil improver. After two years it will be totally broken down and brilliant as compost, If you’ve got pine needles keep them separate if you’ve got rhododendrons or azaleas – they’re acidic and good for both. Lift begonias and dahlias if you live in an area which gets colder winters. You might just get away with mulching in milder areas. Cut stems two inches from the tuber, be careful not to damage the tubers when you lift them. Remove soil carefully and turn upside-down to dry properly. They need to be kept cool and dry so bury in trays of used compost or soil, leaving just the stalks poking out of the top. Store somewhere cool where they will be protected from frost,

r

TOP TIP!

It’s not just humans that want to snuggle up warm in winter. Put a small log pile somewhere hidden at the bottom of the garden to provide shelter for small animals. And leave a few bare hollow stalks in the ground for the insects. 06/11/2018 18:16
