Ta da! Here it is, the new look magazine. We have some new features and some of the old favourites but as always, if there is anything else that you would like to see, don’t hesitate to contact any of us. Just make sure you leave us a contact number, as we’ve had a couple of instances where people have called about putting events in ‘things to do’ and not left contact details for us to get back in touch to verify those details but we love to help promote local events, so please just make sure that you speak to one of us, we don’t bite!!

PC Dashfield has worked for Derbyshire police for more than 11 years, and joins the team having worked on the response teams in the Amber Valley area, in particular around Alfreton. Since starting in the new role, at Christmas, Lorna has been busy getting out on patrol, meeting local

PC Dashfield said: “I’m still getting used to the role and style of policing as part of a Safe Neighbourhood team, where we focus on targeting issues that matter to the community and work with other agencies to try and find longer term solutions. “It’s a new challenge for me, and I’m really enjoying it. If you do see me out and about please don’t hesitate to say hello or please contact us if you have any concerns that we could help with.”

The team, which also includes PC Chris Anthony, PCSO Chris Bannister, PCSO Richard Plant, PCSO Mark Rogers and PCSO Meikel Miller, are currently targeting the following policing priorities:

Gardeners Calendar - April 2014 Plant summer :lowering bulbs such as lilies and anemones; Make sure there’s adequate drainage – crock pots, gravel or vermiculite mixed with compost so they don’t rot if we get a really wet Spring – not that we will, of course...

Pot up any cuttings taken from last year’s plants and overwintered in the greenhouse. Keep taking cuttings as they grow – there’s still time for them to be ready to >lower this summer.

Rose pruning time. If you’ve got roses which repeat :lower during the summer shorten last year’s growth by a third. With shrub roses you can take older stems back to the base if they’re looking congested. This is the time to treat them to some rose fertilizer and a nice bit of muck around the roots.

Top tip. This is bonanza time for slugs – all those sweet little shoots appearing out of the ground. If you don’t want to use pellets because they’re not eco friendly, try crumpled eggshells or coffee grounds. Or encourage frogs into your garden pond by creating shady cool areas of the pond with leaves for them to hide under. Frogs love slugs.

We love it when Gary talks politics. It guarantees us a hatful of emails. Of course if you want to tell him your opinions in person you could always hunt him out down the pub on a Friday night!

I think I’ve said before that I shouldn’t do Politics in this column, so here I go again. I have a Political nemesis in my friend the Rt Hon Rob Earl, he makes Genghis Khan look like a sandal wearing social worker. We’ve wasted a lot of time together over the last few years making things up, changing statistics and frankly lying to each other just to win a political argument, but something strange happened the other day, I think we nearly agreed on something.

would come when all of our resources were being sucked into Greater London, there would be growing resentment leading to riots and revolution across the Country. The newly formed Welsh and Cornish republican army would be allowed to join their longed for ginger brotherhood with Brittany and Ireland. (I think they call it the Celtic fringe or nation, then again they could call it the Ginger fringe). The next to leave would be the Northern Cities who could see a better future in an alliance with Scotland than remaining in the UK. It’s all to do with this Scottish independence thingy. We agreed, that they London would become a City state and wouldn’t vote for independence, but what stretch to Birmingham, whilst many other would happen if they did? The arguments areas would be marooned by rising sea so far seem to be about whether or not levels (in 2023 all :lood prevention they’ll be better off as an independent budgets were assigned to the new Thames state. To be honest I don’t care, but I do barrier project). And Swanwick? Well we care what happens to the rest of us. Bear would just have our heads above water as the southern outpost of Peak district with me and follow my thought process. island. If you don’t want to see all this The electoral system is such, that if we lost happen and you have any in:luence over a all the Scottish Labour MP’s and voters Scot, then please remind them of this. then the outcome would be a Conservative government for ever and ever, now some Would you be willing to trade all the days, people might like that but some others from this day to that, for one chance, just might not be so keen, my scenario is that if one chance, to come back here and tell our this happened then the south east would enemies that they may take our lives, but become even richer and more self-important than it already is. It might they'll never take our take a couple of generations, but the time deep fried kit kats!!!

If on the off chance, you would like Gary to write about something in particular, feel free to contact either Emily on info@ambervalleyvoice.co.uk or 01773 604178/ 07891 639638 or Carla on Carla@ambervalleyvoice.co.uk, 07896294512.
