The journey takes place on the MahaParinirvana Express, which is a special tourist train that covers the distance amidst the sacred Buddhist destinations of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the train got its name from the MahaParinirvana Sutra that consists of the last sermon delivered by Buddha. During the trip, significant Buddhist palaces such as Lumbini (birthplace of Buddha), BodhGaya (he attained Enlightenment), Varanasi (delivered his first sermon) and Kushinagar (he attained Nirvana as he passed away here at the age of 80.
Owned and ran by IRCTC Ltd., the train is made up by altering carriages of an Air conditioned Rajdhani Express sleeper train and it offers three classes, varying from first class coupe, first class, two-tier and three tier, while there is also toilets and shower facility available on the board.
