W
ith 2013 at our doorstep I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your partnership and your participation in our events which makes all the difference in terms of enriching the experience of being a member. I also would like to highlight some of the milestones we achieved in 2012 and to share our thoughts for the year ahead. This year AmCham Morocco crossed another milestone in our 46 year history. We were formally accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. . This gives us better access to the U.S. Administration for lobbying on trade, investment and other FTA issues that may be affecting you. 2012 also brought new partnerships through our sister network AmCham MENA with AmCham Palestine joining the network. Our members can enjoy the same benefits and assistance in other MENA markets including Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and now Palestine . For 2013 we are considering hosting a MENA Amcham event in Morocco which will be an excellent opportunity for you to build your network ties. As we continue to be among the first-stops for U.S. potential investors seeking to use Morocco as a gateway to Africa, we recently launched a partnership with the Investment Promotion Agency of the Kingdom (AMDI) to work together on identifying potential U.S. investors into Morocco using our sister AmChams . With the objective of seeing an expansion in bilateral trade we launched a series of workshops this year aimed at demystifying the U.S. market, explaining access through the FTA , and brainstorming opportunities and challenges . These workshops will continue across various sectors throughout 2013 . A number of capacity building workshops were also launched including the latest event

on alternative sources of financing through private equity and mixers on general topics of interest ranging from the “Fiscal Cliff , Europe in Crisis and Africa Today” and the “ Impact of the Elections” We look forward to welcoming more U.S. companies to Morocco and to seeing an expansion of Moroccan business interests in the U.S. following initiatives arising from the first Strategic Dialogue launched between the U.S and Moroccan governments in September . This high level of attention is undoubtedly welcomed. We look forward to sharing news about the next steps following the first U.S. - Morocco Business Development conference. The U.S. has become the third commercial trading partner for Morocco with the volume of trade in goods more than doubling over the past five years. Total bilateral trade between Morocco and the U.S. represented $2.5 billion through the third quarter of 2012 compared to $2.8 billion for the same period of 2011, with Morocco exports at $708 million and U.S. exports at $1.8 billion. U.S. investment is also growing both in terms of number of U.S. companies present in Morocco, sectors of investment , and amount invested. U.S. investment reached $790 million and is estimated to have created over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs. The U.S. - Moroccan business angle represents a great growth opportunity for both countries and we look forward to an exciting 2013. The Joint Statement of the First Session of the U.S.-Morocco Strategic Dialogue, which took place “September 13, 2012 in Washington, DC, reaffirmed that both the U.S. and the Kingdom of Morocco are dedicated to working together as partners to promote human and economic development in the region.
I
t is my honor and privilege to once again provide this introduction to the American Chamber of Commerce in Morocco Annual Membership Directory. AmCham is a vital business organization in Morocco, promoting the development of trade and the resolution of commercial issues facing its members. The U.S. Mission in Morocco will continue to work jointly with AmCham on events and programs that further develop our bilateral trade. Throughout the three years I have had the privilege and honor to be U.S. Ambassador to Morocco I have been proud to include in my speeches, letters and discussiaons the fact that Morocco was first to recognize the United States as an independent nation. I refer often to our firm partnership, friendship and mutual assistance and as I look at the past year I take note of the fact that our bilateral relationship continues to deepen with the first Strategic Dialogue between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco, led by Secretary Clinton and Minister Otmani on September 13 in Washington, DC. The Strategic Dialogue covered a broad range of issues and resulted in a joint Memorandum of Understanding expressing a common desire to seek opportunities that will further strengthen the bilateral relationship on human rights, empowerment of women, judicial reform, counterterrorism and security, and education and culture. Most importantly for AmCham members, both sides agreed to identify ways to further strengthen the trade relationship, including a Business Development Conference.

As I write this statement, planning is underway for the first such Conference, to take place in Washington, DC just a few days prior to publication of this Membership Directory. The goal of this initial Business Development Conference is to promote business opportunities in Morocco to U.S. companies and strengthen their relationships with Moroccan counterparts to further expand trade and investment in four key indusatry sectors – aerospace, aviation, renewable energy, and agriculture. This annual Conference will become an ongoing framework for a bilateral dialogue covering additional sectors and opportunities to increase trade. It is important to recognize the management, staff, and Board of Directors of AmCham for the many events, programs and publications you offer in order to educate, promote and advocate for your members. Your actions are vital in ensuring that Moroccan and U.S. companies may take full advantage of our Free Trade Agreement and of the growing market opportunities. We wish you well in the coming year.

In restructuring its membership benefits package, AmCham Morocco positioned itself as one of the privileged stops for doing business in Morocco. From our advocacy efforts on business environment concerns to offering members the benefits and services that they value such as the Business Executive Visa Program or the CV database, AmCham Morocco continues to be at the forefront of US-Morocco business relations. We are convinced that, with the continued support from our new and more established members, we will continue to play a key role for your businesses throughout 2013 and the years to come. ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
MISSION STATEMENT AmCham Morocco’s mission is to provide support to businesses, Moroccan and American, in expanding their opportunities in each market through advocacy, information, networking and business support services.
BACKGROUND The American Chamber of Commerce in Morocco (AmCham Morocco) is a non-profit, non government organization which represents American and Moroccan businesses and individuals. AmCham was established in 1966 by a network of Moroccan and American businesses under the auspices of the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. AmCham membership totals 300 members, of which 55% are Moroccan, 40% American, and 5% other nationalities. Members support AmCham operations through annual dues (DH 5 000 per year); the Chamber receives no governmental funding, outside financial support, or subsidies.
STRUCTURE The Chamber is governed by an elected Board, comprised of the presidents of leading U.S. companies established in Morocco, of Moroccan companies doing business with the U.S., exofficio members representing the U.S. government in Morocco, and the AmCham Managing Director. The Chamber’s annual workload is accomplished through four standing committees with different focuses Advocacy Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility, Education and Events. AmCham Morocco has four fulltime staff that manages the day-to-day operations of the central office, coordinates events and publications, handles information requests, processes membership applications, and performs specialized research.
COMMITTEES Much of the AmCham’s annual workload is accomplished through four standing committees: Advocacy Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility, Education, and Events. These committees provide a forum for AmCham members to raise issues about the business climate and draft position papers to solicit government action on issues such as IPR, taxes, custom duties, education, security, corruption, and other. AmCham members are invited to join one or more committees of their choice.
ADVOCACY COMMITTEE The Advocacy committee leads the Chamber’s advocacy and policy initiatives, identifies and researches key business and economic issues, and coordinates the Chamber’s internal and external activities in developing the economic and investment climate in Morocco. The committee also promotes Free Trade Agreement and identifies obstacles to trade and investment between Morocco and the United States.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE Education committee deals primarily with Al Akhawayn University Partnership and works in close cooperation with the University to oversee a joint endowment fund with the goal of enhancing public and private sector management capacity in Morocco. CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP COMMITTEE The Corporate Social responsibility Committee promotes good corporate citizenship and social responsibility on behalf of the Chamber and its private-sector members, develops public-private sector partnerships, and creates and implements programs of an educational, philanthropic, and/ or socially responsible nature within the broader context of U.S.-Morocco economic relations. One of the major projects accomplished by the committee was the construction of Abeljalil Benhida elementary school in Lahraouiyine Casablanca.
Business Opportunities and Matchmaking Members receive and submit business opportunities, such as offers to buy or sell products locally, requests for trade partners or investors, and notifications of import/export opportunities.
Business Referrals AmCham provides members with referrals necessary for international tenders and procurements.
Business Executive Visa Program (BEP) AmCham and the U.S. Consulate are pleased to provide the Business Executive Program (BEP). This program, exclusively for business visas, reserves visa appointments at the Consulate on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month for the employees of AmCham member companies and their families, simplifying and shortening the visa process.

AMCHAM EVENTS AmCham-OCP Trade and Investment Awards 2012 Investment Award 2012 The 2012 Investment Award was awarded to Kraft foods Morocco. This subsidiary of a US company has been established in Morocco since 2001, it operates in the areas of coffee, juice powder, chewing gum and confectionery. Kraft has two production units in Morocco, and employs 350 people. As of September 11th, 2012, the recipient’s signed an agreement to acquire the remaining 50% stake of an important Moroccan biscuit manufacturer for USD 150 Million. This company received quality certification through its ISO 22000 certification in 2005 followed by the ISO 9001 in 2008. It also received Environment certification through the ISO 141001 certification in 2004, followed by OSHAS 18001 in 2007. It also obtained HACCP and Traceability certification in 2010 through the FSSC 22000. Kraft also greatly values corporate citizenship and support for charities, its biggest NGO partner being “L’heure Joyeuse”, with who they have collaborated on several different projects, including the “Lead from the Head to the Heart” initiative.

AmCham Corporate Citizenship Award 2012
The Export Award was given to Domaine El Boura. Located in Taroudant over 1200 hectares, El Boura is a producer and exporter of citrus to several countries including the US, China and Australia.
Dell Morocco was awarded the AmCham Corporate Citizenship 2012 for their outstanding educational program for the Moroccan youth. This program is aimed at teaching students information and communications technology (ICT) skills to prepare them for school, work and life; maximizing their learning ability through technology access; and increasing their potential in a highly technological, global world. This program has been developed with local NGOs including Al Fath, Bayti, UNICEF and SOS villages. Dell has reached over 10,000 students in Morocco and Dell staff has volunteered a huge time to tech and mentor these students.
El Boura has exported a total of $3.6 million in 2011 to the US, an increase of 1 million dollar compared to the previous year and projects to export $5 million in 2012. El Boura has invested over $10 million over the past three years to upgrade its production and quality. El Boura has been committed to producing fruit with the smallest amount of chemical use as possible for the past 25 years. It is also recognized as a fair trade company due to its high social and environmental standards. El Boura is certified ISO 9001 certification in 2001 followed by the ISO 22000 in 2009 in addition to BRC certification in 2005, and IFS in 2008. El Boura has a strong corporate citizenship program, where it sponsors students, provides holy pilgrimage to every retired employee, focuses on environment protection and provides continued education and training for employees to improve their social condition.

All programs and charities, selected through a rigorous process engaging Dell team members and Dell’s Giving Council, share the vision to prepare youth for success through the development of ICT skills. Microsoft Morocco was awarded the Certificate of Merit of the AmCham Corporate Citizenship Award 2012. Microsoft has a ‘Partners in Learning Program ‘ conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and OFPPT and has launched recently Windows 8 in Amazigh language with Tifinagh script. Microsoft Morocco defended a business case to support the introduction Amazigh in the new Windows 8 Operating system. The business case has been submitted to Microsoft Corporation and was approved. Microsoft Morocco team has worked closely with the developers of Windows 8 and the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture to develop management protocols of Amazigh language in the Windows 8 environment including the implementation of the required language modeling and the development of specific characters of the alphabet Tifinagh. Including Amazigh in the new Windows 8 is allowing all people to access technology.

AMCHAM EVENTS Dinner With Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for North Africa Raymond Maxwell Raymond Maxwell is a career foreign service officer who has served primarily in the Middle East and Africa. He was the Deputy Chief of Mission in Syria, Executive Secretary Director in Baghdad, and Deputy Management Counsellor in Cairo. Mr. Maxwell grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has a B.S. degree in Economics from Florida A&M and completed a M.A. degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. He is married to Dr. Filomena PintoPereira. He speaks a little Arabic, Portuguese, and smatterings of high school French and Spanish
Roundtable on Counterfeiting of Hygiene Products

On March 15th, AmCham organized a roundtable on counterfeiting of drugs and hygiene products in celebration of Consumer Protection Day. The Roundtable was opened by Azzedine Kettani, Amcham Vice President, Brian Shukan, US Consul General and Zakaria Fahim, Head of the Ethics Committee at CGEM. A panel of speakers representing key government agencies including OMPIC, CONPIAC, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Health and the Customs Agency addressed participants and gave them an overview of prevention measures to fight counterfeiting in Morocco. The panel also responded to series of questions related to legal pursuits and seizing procedures.

At the closing of the Roundtable, AmCham Managing Director announced the winners of the Anti-Counterfeit Poster Contest organized on Face book in favour of students of Business Schools and Universities across Morocco. AmCham Vice President presented certificates of recognition to all the agencies present at the event for their outstanding efforts on Anti-counterfeit in Morocco and called them for more interaction and information sharing.
AmCham Golf Challenge US Embassy team wins first place
The 16th edition of the AmCham Golf Challenge, which was held on June 9th at the Royal Golf Courseof Mohammedia, attracted 11 corporate teams and individual players from a wide range of AmCham member companies and diplomats in a delightful natural setting. Players ranging from experienced golfers to relative novices took part in this good-natured contest that has become an annual tradition, and the long hours on the green were followed by a buffet cocktail. Evening festivities included the distribution of Cristal trophies to the winning teams sponsored by Vontolina Cristal Strasss and a tombola featuring 2 tickets to Europe courtesy of Lufthansa, hotel stays and dinners.

AMCHAM EVENTS The winning teams this year were US Embassy, Induver, and Voltina, but every participant came out a winner on this friendly and relaxed occasion. The Export Credit Guarantee (GSM-102) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) program which provides credit guarantees to encourage financing of commercial exports of U.S. agricultural products, while providing competitive creditterms to buyers overseas. By reducing financial risk to lenders, credit guarantees encourage exports to buyers in countries—mainly developing countries—that have sufficient financial strength to have foreign exchange available for scheduled payments. The GSM-102 program guarantees credit extended by the private banking sector in the United States (or, less commonly, by the U.S. exporter) to approved foreign banks using dollar-denominated, irrevocable letters of credit for purchases of U.S.

USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) administers the program on behalf of the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC), which issues the credit guarantees. GSM-102 covers credit terms of up to three years; maximum terms may vary by country. CCC guarantees payments due from approved foreign banks to exporters or financial institutions in the United States.

AMCHAM EVENTS However, the financing must be obtained through normal commercial sources. Typically, 98 percent of principal and a portion of interest are covered by a guarantee. Because payment is guaranteed, financial institutions in the United States can offer competitive credit terms to the foreign banks, usually with interest rates based on the London Inter Bank Offered Rate (LIBOR). Any follow-on credit arrangements between the foreign bank and the importer are negotiated separately and are not covered by the CCC guarantee. Program announcements issued by FAS provide information on specific country and commodity allocations, length of credit periods, and other program information and requirements.

On Tuesday, October 2nd, a meeting was convened at the American Chamber of Commerce in Morocco in honor of a USTR delegation. Reasons for this visit include the business environment in Morocco, the Free Trade Agreement, whose goal was to increase bilateral trade between both countries while encouraging the economic and political reforms undertaken by Morocco, and the May 2011 Obama Speech in Cairo, which encouraged bilateral and regional trade, and investment in the MENA region.

AMCHAM EVENTS While the stability of the country was acknowledged and recognized as leading in the region, and while Morocco is seen as an ideal place to expand production, other issues including trade and budget deficit, trade barriers, and adherence to the principles of investment required by the FTA, were brought up. Therefore, this meeting was aimed at discussing ways to improve the investment environment in Morocco and increase exports, by removing or alleviating the aforementioned barriers and increasing communication through FTA joint committee meetings. The discussion about ways to enhance the business environment in Morocco proved to be an interesting one. An emphasis was placed on the expansion of the Information Communication Technology sector (ICT). Initiatives have been taken by Microsoft, which include incorporating E-government programs, increasing communication between isolated

BOARD ACTIVITIES regions and the central government, and encouraging entrepreneurship. The topic of customs modernization was addressed, as customs delays greatly affect prices and employees down the supply chain. The two parties also discussed the difficulty of exporting from Morocco to the US, because of an inability to connect to the US market. The concept of poor project management and project follow up was brought up, and lastly, the FDA procedures and requirements were highlighted, as Moroccan companies, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, find it difficult to register products with the FDA, and are discouraged from targeting the American market. The meeting between US delegates and AmCham members enabled both sides to learn more about the business environment in Morocco and bilateral trade between Morocco and the US. The attendees concluded that an increase in communication is a good start, but follow up meetings are necessary in order to make sure positive change takes place.

AmCham Board hosted a farewell dinner in honor of Michael Oakley, General Manager of Jacobs Engineering Morocco. Michael Oakley started the OCP-Jacobs Engineering Joint-Venture in Morocco in 2010. He departed for a new position with Jacobs in the US effective September 2012.

Nicolas Simonin is a Mechanical Engineer from the Ecole Centrale de Lille, with a MBA degree from EM Lyon. He started his career in the Engineering Services with Socetec, and then in the Industry with Valeo. He then joined Jacobs through the Serete Group acquisition in 1991 where he spent most of his career in France and the United States.

OTHER EVENTS U.S. - Maghreb Entrepreneurship Conference in Marrakech The 2nd annual U.S. – Maghreb Entrepreneurship Conference took place in Marrakech on January 1618, 2012.The conference is a regional follow-up on to the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, held in Washington, D.C. in April 2010, and serves as the annual partnership convening event for the U.S. – North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity (NAPEO), part of the global alliance Partners for a New Beginning (PNB). The NAPEO Morocco advisory board was the host of the conference in coordination with the Aspen Institute, the support of the U.S. Department of State and the PNB-NAPEO network. PNB-NAPEO brings together business, nongovernmental, and public organizations in the United States and North Africa to create regional partnerships that promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation. The inaugural U.S. – Maghreb Entrepreneurship Conference was held in Algiers, Algeria, in December 2010. Marrakech conference brought together North African business leaders and entrepreneurs, aspiring youth entrepreneurs, business leaders of the North African Diaspora, along with U.S. business leaders and young entrepreneurs. The promotion of intra-Maghreb relations and the improvement of access to capital and partnerships with Maghreb Diaspora entrepreneurs were among the key goals of the Conference. No less than 60 speakers spoke at the event, including former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, the President of the Aspen Institute, Walter Isaacson, as well as the President of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy, Hernando de Soto.
At the conclusion of the conference, the Aspen Institute announced a $ 4 million grant to assist entrepreneurship in North Africa.

Panellists focused their remarks on increasing trade and investment by helping create welcoming business environments, providing support for small and medium enterprises that are underserved in these markets, and encouraging intra-regional trade. Participants highlighted the following priorities: foster trade through vertical integration between North and Sub-Saharan Africa, in addition to horizontal geographical integration across the region, continue developing partnerships to create jobs, obtain better tax treatment for U.S. exports, include economic/commercial talking points in high-level bilateral meetings and adequately staff the commercial offices of our Embassies in the region, ease U.S. visa procedures, and promote English-language education and technical assistance.
A summary of the event and a synthesis of key insights from three main Break Out sessions on the Near Eastern Region are as follow: Session on Facilitating Business addressed by panellists from the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and U.S. Department of Commerce. During this session, panellists gave an overview of activities to promote U.S. exports and assist American companies in the region, through trade missions, feasibility studies, and corporate matchmaking. AmCham President speaks at the AmCham MENA Conference
AmCham MENA Regional Council held its annual conference in Tunisia on May 10th to discuss New Opportunities in a changing MENA region. The conference gathered 150 participants and representatives of AmCham Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and UAE. Topics discussed included cross-regional trade, investment, communication, and general cooperation within the MENA region especially in the fields of ICT, Energy and Infrastructure, Agribusiness, and Private Equity. AmCham President moderated the panel on private equity and its contribution to SME growth. The panel was composed of Richard Dallas, Managing Director of Investments for Gulf Capital in the UAE, Sherif El Khouly, Director of Actis Egypt, Hassan Laaziri, Director of CDG Private Equity Morocco, and Ziad Oueslati, Founding Partner of Tunivest. Participants pointed out that private equity is becoming an important component of funding for SMEs especially after the recent banks crisis. The President recommended that MENA AmChams form a subcommittee to link AmCham members throughout the region to private equity fund managers should they have an interest.
A second panel on agri-business in the region was addressed by AmCham member, Amine Khalil, Business Development Director at Dari Couspate along with Arlsan Sinno, President of Dora Flour Mills in Lebanon, Tarek Tawfik, Managing Director of Farm Frites and Cairo Poultry Company in Egypt and Cary Sifferath, Regional Director for the U.S. Grains Council in Tunisia. This panel discussion focused on food security in the MENA region and the connection between food security and political and social stability. Participants also debated the many subsidies across the MENA region, especially for wheat and bread and how these subsidies were inefficient and wasteful for government’s budgets. Participants called for new subsidy systems that offers a better assistance to consumers and allows governments to make savings that could be spent on agricultural development and social programs. At the closing, AmCham MENA conference organizers announced the Winners of the AmCham MENA Women’s Awards. For AmCham Morocco, the winners were: - Miriem Bensalah Chaqroun, CEO of Les Eaux Minerales d’Oulmes, Best Woman in the Corporate Sector. - Zohra Mellouk, Founder of Souss Saffron Morocco, Best Woman Entrepreneur. - Suzanne Moyer, Founder of Amerisource Consulting, Best Woman in the Non-Profit Sector.

A Totalization agreement is an international agreement dealing with social security taxes and benefits. The word “Totalization” pertains to the fact that some aspects of the agreement involve “combining” a person’s work, time and earnings in the two countries that sign the agreement. The US and Morocco already have Totalization agreements in place with other trading partners, and it is logical that, given that the US and Morocco already have a double taxation treaty and a Free Trade Agreement, there be a Totalization agreement to bring into harmony their respective social security regimes.
AmCham-OBG partnership started in 2004 with the first publication called “Emerging Morocco”. Emerging Morocco has become since 2008 “Morocco: The Report” and has been produced in collaboration with the Moroccan Investment Agency, the CFG Group and the AmCham. Morocco: The Report is considered today as one of the most exhaustive and credible source of information for potential investors. Topics featured in the 2012 edition include a political and economical analysis, recent developments in energy, tourism, real estate, telecom and IT, the increasing role of the industry, capital markets, and interviews with local and foreign business leaders. AmCham and MATIC to launch an Alliance for Morocco US Totalization AmCham and the Moroccan American Center for Trade and Investment (MATIC) joined forces to advocate for a Totalization agreement between Morocco and the US. This initiative came as a result of series of meetings and discussions held with American expats in Morocco and NGOs representing Moroccan expats in the US such as AMPA, Morocco Board and Washington Club.
A Morocco-US Totalization agreement would protect the benefit rights of workers who divide their working careers between the US and Morocco. The agreement would eliminate situations in which workers or employers are required to pay Social Security taxes to both countries on the same earnings. In addition, Totalization agreements remove legal obstacles that prevent a person who has earned benefits in one country from receiving those benefits while residing in the other country. There are Tens of thousands of Moroccans who work in the US and hundreds of US citizens employed in Morocco who are at a disadvantage when it comes to social security payments and benefits in both countries. During the week of September 10, Morocco and the US initiated a Strategic Dialogue to raise the status and importance of the bilateral relationship. One of the items proposed for discussion was the need for a Totalization agreement that would eliminate disadvantages to Americans and Moroccans working in each other’s countries. AmCham and MATIC launched a coalition group of all interested parties to petition both the US and Moroccan governments to move ahead on a Totalization agreement. Tentatively, it is being referred to as “A-MUST Alliance for Morocco US Totalization.”

The AmCham MENA Regional Council (MENA Council) was established in 2005, and comprises the AmChams of Abu Dhabi-UAE, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia. The objective of the Council is to foster increased collaboration and cooperation amongst the members, and to work on promoting greater business opportunities between the United States and the Middle East North Africa region. The Council works on effectively linking the various members, and institutionalizing their ongoing coordination with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It also works on promoting Free trade agreements (FTAs) between MENA countries and the U.S., and on fostering increased awareness among MENA region manufacturers and producers of export opportunities to the U.S. through those agreements. The idea behind the Council is to foster regional cooperation, while coordinating efforts among AmChams to promote greater business opportunities between the United States and the Middle East North Africa region. The Council’s goals and values include commitment to free trade, opening of regional markets, protection of intellectual property rights, and accession to international agreements. Free trade agreements (FTAs) between MENA countries and the United States are also a priority for the Council. AmCham Tunis is the current chair of the Council, and AmCham Abu Dhabi is the Vice Chair. The Council’s permanent secretariat resides at AmCham Egypt.

Total bilateral trade between Morocco and the U.S. represented $2,547 million through the third quarter of 2012 (end of September) compared to $2,832 million over the same period in 2011. Morocco Exports to the USA Total Moroccan exports to the U.S. amounted $708.5 million through the third quarter of 2012, down 10.3 % compared to 790.2 million over the same period in 2011. While some leading Moroccan exports to the U.S. registered a significant decrease, others registered slight increases. Products such as food manufactures decreased to $87.2 million (-35.4%); computer and electronics dropped to $73.5 million (-11, 3%); chemicals decreased to $120.7 million (-7.2 %) and minerals and ores slightly decreased to $216.9 million, representing a mere .3% decrease. Meanwhile, export items such as apparel manufacturing products rose up to $79.5 million (+17.4 %), transportation equipment went up to $31.7million (+29.4%), and agricultural products went up to $17.7 million, representing a 1.7% increase.

U.S. Exports to Morocco Total U.S. exports to Morocco amounted $1,838 million, a decrease of 9.9% compared to the same period in 2011 ($2,041 million). Leading U.S. exports to Morocco were: petroleum and coal products, with a value of $447.8 million, up 7.6%, and minerals and ores with a value of $258.7 million, representing a 41.1% increase. U.S. export items such as agricultural products fell to $93.6 million, down 55.3%; computers and electronic products went down to $39.1 million (-27, 8%); dairy products, and food manufactures went down to $424.6 million, representing a 21.4% decrease.
