Welcome to the 2020 Salt Lake Parade of HomesTM Planning for the next Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ begins as soon as the current one ends, and this year I had a fantastic committee of people in so many industries with diverse viewpoints and great minds. We were prepped and ready to plan an amazing 2020 Parade that we knew our attendees would love! We were in the middle of planning when March hit and we were forced to hit the brakes. Many times, we wondered if a parade would be possible this year, going through so many scenarios of where our state would be in a few months. Often, we discussed plans and then new information would come up and we’d have to pivot. To say it has not been easy would be an understatement.

With the help of this committee, and the amazing staff at the Salt Lake Home Builders Association, we have had weekly virtual meetings for months now, going over all the new information as we get closer to the Parade.

President’s Message 2020 Salt Lake Home Builders Association

2020 — What a WILD ride it has been thus far. At times I did not believe a 2020 Parade of Homes would happen. Concern and fear of the unknown, foreseeable future were at the forefront of my mind. I felt the jeopardy of the Salt Lake Home Builders Association 74 year continuously running parade streak was at stake. And I placed self-pity on myself for having to fight such an unusual year. Often, I thought to myself, what am I doing! My message is to the builders, Salt Lake Home Builders Association staff, committee members, board members, general members, sponsors, National and State officials, and neighboring State and Local Home Builder Associations. I am truly proud to be a part of something bigger than my mind could overcome individually. Your motivation, strength, commitment to excellence, and resilience have made the 74th continuously run Parade of Homes possible, and for that, I am filled with gratitude.

Clean Air Message As builders of our communities, we care about the health and safety of our residents and neighbors. Our members advocate for continued improvements to our building standards, knowing new systems and technologies will have a lasting impact on our lifestyle and environment. Our influence goes beyond the protection of human wellness, as negative impacts extend to our animals, plants, buildings, and economy. Innovations include finding ways to continue with the improvement of the air we breathe along the Wasatch Front. Air pollution may be a mere eye irritant to some, while others are more severely affected by toxins floating around us. Regardless, we must find ways for a cleaner, healthier community. While housing isn’t the main contributor to air-quality problems, we push for efficiencies slowing emissions, which also foster improved comfort, lower energy costs, and better resale value.
