W

hat makes Amelia Island such a wonderful place to live? There are so many answers to this question, so many dimensions, that make life on Florida’s northernmost barrier island so ideal. What do we treasure, and who are the people working behind the scenes every day to make life so good here? While profiling some of the familiar faces we see every day, I came to understand that what makes our island so vibrant is Dickie Anderson is a free-lance writer and the author of six books. Her popular column, “From The Porch,” appears weekly in the Fernandina Beach News-Leader. Great Homes of Fernandina, her guide book to Fernandina Beach’s Historic District, continues to be a bestseller. 11 AMELIA ISLANDER MAGAZINE •

the compassion and commitment of the people that call the island home. In this feature, we will take a look at a hospital administrator, an island artist, an author, a police chief, an ocean rescue supervisor, the president of a tennis club, a community volunteer, a musical theater owner, island photographers, and the curator for the Amelia Island Museum of History, and learn why they are so dedicated. Steve Leimberg is a professional fine arts wildlife and portrait photographer, who has co-authored several books including A Day on Amelia, A Day at White Oak, and Birds of Amelia I and II. He chronicles our island’s people, trees, and birds in the Amelia Islander Magazine. JUNE 2020
