ith the holidays rapidly approaching, it’s a pleasure to watch as everything in our lives slowly becomes transformed by the joy of the season, especially on Amelia Island. Of course, one of the most cherished traditions of the holiday season is the exchange of gifts with those we love. Finding just the right gift for someone special in our lives is a wonderful feeling, and it is at the heart of the Christmas season. Each year in November, we take great pleasure in presenting our annual Holiday Gift Guide. Our goal is to highlight some of the fabulous finds available at our local shops during the holiday shopping season. Whether you’re searching for the perfect gift or sneaking something for yourself, we’re certain you’ll find it here on Amelia Island. We are always proud to showcase all the terrific shops that Amelia Island has to offer. We hope that you’ll relax with a cup of coffee and spend a few minutes looking through these great gift ideas. Perhaps we’ll even save you that joy-killing road trip to the big-city shopping mall. This year, visit your friends and neighbors in Amelia Island’s fine shops, and you’ll discover great personal service and a wide variety of unique gifts. With a little luck, you might run into an old friend and find time to share a little holiday cheer. Regardless of how hectic our schedules get, spending time with family and friends is the most important part of the holiday season. The Amelia Island community is a warm and welcoming place, and never more so than around the holidays, when the spirit of giving moves so many to generously offer their time and treasure. It is a time of year to be grateful for the most precious gifts of family, friendship, and community. Again this year, we are very happy to present as part of our monthly “Island Home” feature a preview of the Amelia Island Museum of History’s 2016 Holiday Home Tour. The Holiday Home Tour is one of the museum’s most important fundraiser, and this year the tour returns to the Historic District with five beautiful homes dressed in their holiday best. We hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the tour this year. Also in this issue, we present the many ways Amelia Island raises awareness and money to find a cure for breast cancer; a young family’s efforts to honor their son through a special gift of sharing; a profile of Carol Wyatt, whose love of nature has led her all over the globe; an “Island Entertaining” column featuring delicious homemade pies; and much more. Best wishes to all for a Happy Thanksgiving! See you around the island!

76 Island Entertaining

With a host of events in October and even more in November, Amelia Island works hard to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

To establish a lasting legacy for their young son, Rachel and Patrick Pennewell started Tyler’s Toys four years ago to continue their son’s gift for sharing.

Having founding the Nassau Bird Club with Ellie Colburn twenty-five years ago, Carol Wyatt continues to explore the beauty of nature all over the world.

After you’ve finished the turkey, stuffing, and all the fixin’s, it’s time to get down to the heart of your Thanksgiving meal: the homemade pies.

TREES FOR AMERICA’S TROOPS ACCEPTING DONATIONS ON NOVEMBER 12 In December 2010, Nassau County resident Kelly Mixon was killed in action in Kandahar, Afghanistan. After his death, Mixon’s family received a great outpouring of support from both friends and strangers. His parents were determined to find a way to honor their son’s memory and bring joy to soldiers who would be spending the holidays far from home. Trees for America’s Troops, now in its fifth year, supports U.S. troops serving overseas who can’t be home for the holidays, providing Christmas trees and other items that will help them during their deployment. On November 12, Trees for America’s Troops volunteers will be accepting donations of Christmas trees and “care” items at Maxwell Hall, Memorial Methodist Church in downtown Fernandina Beach from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Suggested donations include 24” pre-lit, decorated Christmas trees with break-resistant ornaments, Christmas cards, non-perishable food and snacks, personal hygiene items, puzzle books, playing cards, and chew toys for warrior dogs. Keep in mind when selecting donation items to choose lightweight, non-perishable items. If you are unable to bring your items that day, call (904) 330-4679 for pick-up. onnie Tennille was the visionary behind The Plantation Shop, an iconic Amelia Island business since 1978. She and her husband, Wilson Tennille Sr., originally opened the store as a home accessories and gift shop, but soon they turned to English and French country antiques, which is what the store is known for today. The Plantation Shop continues to set high standards for relationshipbuilding and customer service. After Bonnie’s passing several years ago, her son, Wilson Tennille Jr., carries on his mother’s business principles. “We offer a great selection of one-of-a-kind antiques and something for everyone,” says Wilson. “That’s what has made The Plantation Shop a tradition for 38 years.” Going to England and handpicking each item is where it all begins. “Every six to eight weeks, we receive a new shipment of antiques from across the pond,” says Wilson. “From an exquisite Mahogany Chest circa 1840 to a country pine chest, we have it all. Our unique antique smalls and our selection

of antiques is unmatched, and that’s what makes The Plantation Shop one of the most unique shopping experiences in the South.” In the last seven years, with Wilson Jr.’s expertise and the dedication of their closely-knit staff, the store has expanded to three buildings and now includes new furniture and Four Season’s Upholstery, in addition to their distinctive inventory of traditional and coastal home accessories, gifts, and their constantly changing inventory of English and French country antiques. Wilson is proud of the business his mother built, and continues to make The Plantation Shop a favorite Amelia Island shopping destination. “It has been an honor and a privilege to carry on where my mother left off,” says Wilson Jr. “Our customers, our loyal staff, we feel like they are part of our own family.” For more information about The Plantation Shop, call (904) 261-2030. he Fernandina Beach community will soon have a new VyStar Credit Union branch. The original VyStar branch at 1900 South 14th Street, which has served the community for over 13 years, is being torn down and replaced with a completely new facility. The new office is in the early stages of construction and is scheduled to open next year. The new branch will incorporate one of VyStar’s latest design concepts, which was recently introduced in their Ormond Beach branch in Volusia County. The new concept incorporates a fresh look and enhanced technology designed to increase efficiency and improve the member’s experience. “We understand that the way our members use our branches has significantly changed over the years,” says VyStar President and CEO Terry West. “In response, our new branch design will continue to better serve our existing members while preparing us to serve generations to come. We look forward to opening our new facility and enjoying many more years of service to the Fernandina Beach community and Nassau County.” “My staff and I are looking forward to introducing the new branch design to our Nassau County members and continuing the high standards of member service they have come to expect,” says Shannon Brown, VyStar Branch Vice President, Fernandina Beach branch. During construction of the new facility, VyStar will continue to serve their members at a temporary location located one mile north in the 8 Flags Shopping Center at 1014 South 14th Street. PINK POWER With a host of events in October and even more in November, Amelia Island works hard to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. BY JULIE SIMMONS • PHOTO COURTESY OF THE BRYAN FAMILY

A

melia Island’s Chris Bryan is not a one-time, but a twotime breast cancer fighter and survivor. “The first time I battled breast cancer was in 2000,” shares Chris. “The second time was in 2011.” The strength that Chris possesses is nothing short of extraordinary, and it is contagious in rallying folks to fight beside her “for a cure,” as the slogan goes. Fighting is what Amelia Island has been up to during the past few weeks, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month around the nation. From young to old, women and men around the island have stepped into the ring. “One of the events that really touched my heart,” says Chris, “was when the Fernandina Beach High School girls volleyball team hosted ‘Volley for the Cure.’ It was a night to recognize breast cancer survivors.” Chris is proud to note that her granddaughter, Elizabeth Burnet, is a member of the team. “The team invited survivors and gave them flowers, and the girls wore special shirts and decorated the gym with pink balloons.” To help raise money for the fight, the team sold pink desserts. “I love that FBHS

recognizes how important it is to celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Awareness is near and dear to the Bryan family because their daughters, Ginny and Amy, are confirmed to have the BRCA 1 gene mutation, and both have volunteered for preventive surgeries to get ahead of their susceptibility to cancer. “Awareness is huge,” says Chris. “Learning about not just breast cancer, but the steps you can take to prevent it, saves lives.” Down the road at the McArthur Family YMCA, members and staff were busy fighting as well. “At the Y, we believe in supporting our community and all our members who are survivors or battling breast cancer,” confirms Wellness Director Karina Gilchrist. This year, the YMCA dedicated a whole week to awareness and early prevention. Members wore pink all week. The week’s events were crowned with a one-mile celebration and memorial walk around Amelia Park, which concluded with a candle ceremony. continued on page 38.

“I feel personally honored and touched being next to close friends in our Y that have been impacted by breast cancer,” says Karina. “I feel privileged to work closely in support with them as they triumphantly overcome.” Education is a huge component of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Pink Ribbon Ladies made sure it was available at “Discussions on Breast Cancer,” their event aimed at raising awareness. Four guest speakers from the Ackerman Cancer Center, including an oncologist, a clinical social worker, a genetic counselor, and an oncology wellness specialist, were on hand to provide education as well as the opportunity for participants to ask questions. The Pink Ribbon Ladies offers support and education for women with breast and other female cancers in Nassau County and invite you to join them the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Ackerman Cancer Center. Continuing the fight this month to raise awareness is the Kraft Tennis Club, which is hosting “Smashing Out Cancer” on Sunday, November 13 at the Kraft Ladies Round Robin. The event is $40 and includes a long-sleeve dry-fit shirt, a 30-minute professional stretch with YYoga, two hours of round robin tennis, and concludes with pink champagne and pink little bites. All proceeds support our local breast cancer foundation. For more information, email Susie Kawecki at susiek@bellsouth.net. “Unfortunately, most of us have a family member or friend who has battled this terrible disease,” explains event organizer Susie DeMille. “The ladies of Kraft Tennis Club are a group of very special women that always rally together to help another in need! For me, what better way to help the fight than to organize a tennis fundraiser. We are all heart, playing for the cause and showing our pink power on the courts!” For all of our mothers, sisters, wives, and best friends—for fighters like Chris Bryan—Amelia Island is pinning on a pink ribbon and fighting the good fight to raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer.

tyler’s toys To establish a lasting legacy for their young son, Rachel and Patrick Pennewell started Tyler’s Toys four years ago to continue their son’s gift for sharing. BY JULIE SIMMONS • PHOTOS COURTESY OF RACHEL PENNEWELL

T

yler Pennewell was just 22 months young when his address changed from Fernandina Beach, Florida to heaven. “He was such a quiet, peaceful boy… a knowing soul,” says Rachel, Tyler’s mom. She describes Tyler as beyond his years in his ability to share with other children, and sharing with other boys and girls is exactly what Tyler is doing today. Twelve years ago, Tyler passed in a drowning accident. “Trying to figure out what to do—how to live everyday life—after losing your child is confusing,” confides Rachel. “It is so hard to be a parent and not have the child. I still want to take care of Tyler and love him.” Rachel and Patrick have grieved their son in different ways, and in the past twelve years they have worked hard to realize his legacy. “For the first Christmases after Tyler left, my father-in-law and I would select an angel off the tree at church and complete

the entire Christmas for the family,” Rachel remembers. “When it was time for Tyler to start kindergarten, we helped buy school supplies for a child in need. Anything I could do to pay forward my love for my son and help fill the void he left.” Tyler’s birthday in May was always the most difficult day for the family. “Trying to celebrate with him not with us was just hard,” says Rachel. “On the third birthday, we were at Main Beach with cake and balloons, and I just said, ‘I am not doing this again.’” In the meantime, the family welcomed their daughters, Hannah and Ella. “When the girls were young, they both ended up in Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital for short stays,” Rachel explains. “The staff at Wolfson’s truly cares for each patient and excels medically, but the best part happens when the treatment ends. They offer the child a gift, a toy.”

For this family, the toy was almost like a peace offering, showing their baby girl that the medical staff was there to help her, not to torture her. Rachel described how Ella’s demeanor immediately changed when they presented her with a toy, and this was the day that Tyler’s Toys was conceived. Wolfson Children’s Hospital even has a wish list to help them find what they need. As their website notes, “Donations of brand-new toys, games, stuffed animals, and crafts are welcome throughout the year. Toys and games are used in the playrooms to entertain children during the hospital stay. Stuffed animals and blankets are a comfort to patients and are given to them to take home. Donations also make it possible for patients to choose a gift after a medical procedure or to celebrate a birthday or holiday. Patients and families are very appreciative of all gifts and are touched by your generosity to help make the hospital stay more comfortable.” Tyler’s Toys, Inc. was formed to collect just these wish list items for Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital. “This is our fourth year,” smiles Rachel. “What I love most about the toys is that it allows children to feel like kids despite the seriousness of what they’re experiencing at the hospital.” Bringing this joy to children is no small feat. With 60,000 to 80,000 patients at Wolfson’s each year, a lot of toys are needed. Tyler’s Toys is doing its part each year, delivering a firetruck overflowing with toys last year to the hospital. If you would like to partner with the Pennewell family in sharing toys with other children—just like Tyler loved to do—you can drop off new items at Chick-fil-A Amelia Island in the Tyler’s Toys wagon between now and Christmas, or contact Rachel to participate financially at tylerstoys02@gmail.com. a love of nature

Having founding the Nassau Bird Club with Ellie Colburn 25 years ago, Carol Wyatt continues to explore the beauty of nature all over the world.

BY KAREN MILLER PHOTOS COURTESY OF CAROL WYATT

W

hen Carol Wyatt was a young girl, she collected issues of National Geographic Magazine. After her swimming lessons at the YWCA in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she took a pocketful of change over to the Salvation Army thrift shop next door and bought all the National Geographics she could afford for 10 cents each. Carol coveted those magazines, imagining all the things she could see and do in the world and dreaming of travel. In 1982, her dreams came true when she and her mother went to Africa together, and that’s when she became an official “birder” after setting her eyes on a Malachite Sunbird that she saw in Cape Town. “I remember seeing 13 species of birds on that trip,” says Carol. “That’s when I knew I was hooked on birds.” Since then, Carol has visited 65 countries on every continent in the world, and has seen over 5,500 species of birds. When Carol saw that there was no local birding group in Nassau County, it was only natural that she would want to start a local bird club. After talking about the idea with her fellow birding friend, Ellie Colburn, the Nassau Bird Club was born 25 years ago. “Ellie and I co-chaired the group,” says Carol. “It was very loose. No set dates, no dues. All we wanted to do was look at birds.” They joined with the Duval Audubon Society for birding trips throughout northeast Florida, visiting places like Fort Clinch State Park, Egans Creek Greenway, and Huguenot Park in Jacksonville. Carol recently resigned from her position as chairperson of

the club, handing over the reins to newcomer Bill George, who recently moved to Amelia Island from Minnesota. “I’m really thrilled that Bill will now be leading the Nassau Bird Club, and he will be assisted by Cathy Ryckman,” says Carol. “Bill has birded extensively and is very knowledgeable and likable. Kathy loves to bird as well, having moved here from Cincinnati, and she’s very enthusiastic. They will make a great team!” Carol has introduced hundreds of people to birding over her last 25 years of hosting the group. “One of the things we care about in the Nassau County Bird Club is teaching people about birds. Everyone is always welcome to come along, and we love novice birders!” Experienced members of the club share their binoculars, scopes, and field guides with newcomers, along with their knowledge of local and migratory species. Beginners learn to look for flight patterns, bird songs and calls, and seasonal changes in the birds’ appearances. Carol might be stepping down from her chair position, but she’s not stepping down from traveling and birding. Her next trip is planned to Tanzania. “I’m planning a 3-week trip there in February, where I hope to see more bird species and some new mammals,” says Carol. Yes, Carol also has a mammal list that totals 465. “I just love nature,” she says. “Everything about the world is just magical to me, the birds, animals, insects, plants, and people. There’s always something new to see and experience.” For more information about birding in Nassau, Duval, and Clay Counties, visit Duval Audubon at www.duvalaudubon.org.

lovely loropetalum New plants introduced at this year’s Florida National Growers show like Purple Daydream, Lime Sizzler, and Little Burger make great additions to your landscape. BY BETTY MORRELL

S

ummer is finally behind us and we are now busy preparing for the holiday season, a time for planting, designing, and gift gathering. I am so excited about the new plants that were introduced at the Florida National Growers Association Trade Show. I would like to share with you a few of my favorites, with more plants and ideas in the months ahead. All of the following new plants are from Southern Living growers. I love the very versatile Loropetalum, and thought I had seen them all until I met Purple Daydream. I’m in love with this beautiful dwarf plant, which is compact and layered in habit. It grows 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. This petite beauty proudly displays its dark purple foliage year round, and in spring it bursts forth with clusters of lovely pink bunches of string flowers. Purple Daydream will grow in full sun or part shade, and it is drought tolerant and deer-resistant. It can be used as an accent plant, hedge, or in mass plantings. Try some on a slope or plant them in a container. They are really

eye catching! Moist, well-drained soil makes Daydream very happy. Fertilize in late spring after pruning before the first flush of new growth comes. Another pretty plant that caught my eye was the new Firebush named Lime Sizzler. The foliage is variegated lime green and yellow, and it stands out with its red-and-orange flowers from late spring through fall. This plant performs well in landscapes, borders, mass plantings, or as an accent plant. Grow Lime Sizzler in well-drained garden soil rich in organic matter, and fertilize it in early spring. This plant can grow 4 to 5 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. You may shape this plant as needed. I didn’t spend much time with Lime Sizzler, although it is really a beautiful

plant, because out of the corner of my eye I spotted a shrub that I just had to check out. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found myself looking at this beach ball-sized and-shaped shrub. I discovered that this new shrub is known as Beach Ball Pittosporum, Tenifolium Little Burger. This plant is awesome, and it’s another one I fell in love with. Little Burger is a playful shrub that can be loved for its compact, naturally ballshaped habit. Its medium-sized, bright green leaves add attractive uniform texture. I can envision this shrub as a landscape border in front of a different textured darker-leaved plant. It would be stunning! Little Burger can be a container plant, or it can be used as a border, hedge, or accent plant. It will thrive in full sun to part-shade. Its maximum height is 3 to 4 feet and 3 to 4 feet in width. Prune this wonderful plant in winter to keep it at your desired height. If you have any questions, you can email me at bamorrell@aol.com. In the meantime, Happy Gardening!

he holiday season would not be complete without the Amelia Island Museum of History’s much-anticipated annual Holiday Home Tour. Once a year, historic homes are opened to the public, all decorated in their holiday best. Now in its tenth year, this year’s tour is offering five unique and special homes. After opening beach homes to the tour for the first time last year, this year’s tour returns to Fernandina Beach’s Historic District. Each year, Amelia Island’s finest decorators and designers share their talents and ideas by decorating houses on the tour. This year, the featured decorators include Ken Prescott of Dottie

B Florist, Shirley Page of Harris Teeter Flower Gallery, Amber Marvin of Island Flower and Garden, and Brooke Raulerson of Artistic Florist & Gifts. In addition, Artistic Florist is offering a Holiday Hands-On Decorating Workshop. In conjunction with the tour every year, an ornament depicting one of the featured homes is offered. This year, the ornament features the Lesesne House. This is the fourth in a series, and it is available in the Amelia Island Museum of History’s gift shop for $20. A collector’s set of four is available for $50. The ornament will be available for sale during the two days of the Holiday Home Tour.

Raffle tickets will be sold prior to and during the Holiday Home Tour, which takes place on December 2 & 3. Ticket prices are 1 for $5, 3 for $10, 7 for $20 and 20 for $50. 1860 and it may be the oldest still-inhabited home on Amelia Island. Visitors often stop to read the historical marker that tells the history of this interesting home. It was built to last, made of hand-hewn lumber and wooden pegs in place of nails, which helped it withstand the devastating hurricane of 1898. It was originally built for Dr. John Lesesne, who is thought to have died of yellow fever during the Civil War. After the war, it became the property of Judge John Friend in 1868. It is interesting to note that since then it has passed through the maternal side of his family. It is currently owned by Jennifer Whitmire, who has made extensive renovations. Original hand rails and newel posts are still used, and many antiques, paintings, photos and memorabilia are on display throughout.

604 ASH STREET DRUSIE & JIM DAVIS HOME

This magnificent home was built in 1891 as a private residence, but its history before being purchased by Drusie and Jim Davis in 2008 could fill a book. In past years, it has housed restaurants known as the Christmas House, Rudolph’s, and Embers at the Addison. An old photo suggests it also housed Carnie’s Ceramics and Gifts. Today, this two-story residence has a striking double door entrance topped with clear glass transom windows. These are centered on the lower of two wrap-around porches. The interior is decorated and furnished in a 1950’s-style, a feast for the eyes.

ack & Diane’s, located at 708 Centre Street, has been nicknamed “The tastiest spot on Centre” by locals, and the regulars who frequent this charming bistro agree. Most of the menu items are family traditions and inspirations from around the globe that owner and chef Lisa Jones uses to infuse worldly flavors into familiar comfort foods. One of the things I love about Lisa is her ability to take a on a foodie challenge, so when I asked her to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner one month before Thanksgiving, she was happy to oblige. A group of us gathered one afternoon at Jack & Diane’s for an early holiday meal, ready to enjoy a real turkey dinner with all the fixings. Our server, Jim, started us out with glasses of lemonade, and a basket of warm, whole wheat rolls with butter, while we talked about our holiday plans. Before long, Jim and Lisa came out with our plated dinners, a sight to behold! Piled high was roast turkey, stuffing, gravy, greens and black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, and spiced cranberry sauce. Lisa serves a boneless turkey roast at Jack & Diane’s that features white and dark meat, and it is extremely moist, and really delicious. Her gravy is out of this world, and surprisingly, it is vegan! That means it’s made without any animal products. As a matter of fact, most of Lisa’s side dishes are meat, dairy, and gluten-free, so that carnivores and vegetarians can enjoy a meal together. I especially loved the stuffing, which was moist and loaded with finely chopped vegetables like onions, zucchini, carrots,

and celery. The mashed potatoes were an interesting and tasty combination of sweet and white potatoes. The greens and black-eyed peas are thoroughly Southern, and I could have eaten a plate of that dish on my own. And we all enjoyed the spiced cranberry sauce, which tasted of cloves and cinnamon. After dinner, Lisa served us her specialty, Holiday Parfait, loaded with apples, berries, pumpkin, vegan cream, and glutenfree cookie crumbles. It was out of this world! Lisa has been serving Thanksgiving dinner since the restaurant opened, and the guests who come for her holiday meal are like family to her. She also makes holiday dinners to go, so place your orders early for turkey with all the trimmings. The name of the restaurant, Jack & Diane’s, is Jones’s homage to the greatest love story she ever knew, the love story of her grandparents, married for more than 60 years. Photos of them can be seen all around the restaurant, which is situated in an old shotgun house built in 1862. Rumored to have been a madam’s house in the pirate days, Jack & Diane’s also has a resident ghost, Charlie, according to Jones, who turns up at the restaurant occasionally. For more information on holiday hours and menu selections, call (904) 321-1444 or visit www.jackanddianescafe.com. The restaurant is open Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Open Sunday Monday Wednesday 8 a.m. to 3 pm. Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

island entertaining 3-2-1- PIE CRUST Ingredients 12 oz. chilled white flour 1 Tsp. fine sea salt 8 oz. chilled shortening 4 oz. ice water Preparation Mix flour and sea salt in chilled bowl. Cut shortening into the flour with pastry cutter until the mixture resembles tiny peas. Add ice water and stir gently with a fork until the dough barely comes together. Divide into 2-disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate until ready to use. To prepare, roll into a large disk and place in a greased 9-inch pie dish. Fill as desired. Makes enough crust for 1 standard two-crust pie, or 2 standard one-crust pies.

all about the

pies

After you’ve finished the turkey, stuffing, and all the fixin’s, it’s time to get down to the heart of your Thanksgiving meal: the pies. BY KAREN MILLER

M

y mother taught me how to make pie crust when I was six years old, and since then, I’ve made over a thousand pies. In our family, Thanksgiving was not only about the turkey and stuffing; it was also about having a dozen or so homemade pies to share with our loved ones. We’ve always used the 3-2-1 pie crust formula, and it’s a procedure that comes out perfectly every time. The dough recipe is easy to remember, and it can be made in any quantity, using three parts flour, two parts shortening, and one part ice water. Add some sea salt, and that’s all you’ll need for a flawless crust.

Keep in mind these few “secrets to success” when you begin. Don’t overwork the dough, or it will become tough. Be sure to chill the ingredients before preparation, and chill the dough before rolling it out. This will insure a flaky crust. And lastly, make your dough when you have plenty of time on your hands. Don’t wait until Thanksgiving morning! I always make dough several days before Thanksgiving, and then keep it in the fridge until I’m ready to shape and fill the crusts. You can make pies the day before Thanksgiving, and they will be fresh and tasty for Thanksgiving Day.
