end. “This place feels like home to me,” said Emily. “We wanted to have our wedding here to share the island with our family and friends.” The couple chose The Golf Club of Amelia Island for its classic interior and picturesque surroundings. Emily and her mom hired what they affectionately call “The Dream Team,” which included Katrina Moughton, the Golf Club’s wedding planner, Brooke Raulerson of Revelation Design, The Beauty Bar, and Pam Bell Photography. “Katrina Moughton, catering sales director with The Golf Club of Amelia Island, and our wedding planner, Natalie Voytac of Details Event Design, are the best on the island. Brooke Raulerson of Revelation Design made my garden-style vision come to life,” says Emily. “Every detail was taken care of. Our wedding was perfect.” Emily and H.B. were married on June 22, 2019 at Amelia Plantation Chapel, officiated by their friend, George Barr. “We wanted a very personal, faith-based ceremony” says Emily. “Our wedding party was made up of family members, and that made it really special. The Amelia Plantation Chapel is lovely; it’s such an intimate space, we felt completely connected to all of our guests.” Emily and H.B.’s wedding weekend began on Friday night, with a rehearsal dinner at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, hosted by H.B.’s parents, Alise and David, which included a musical homage to the couple, written and sung by the Hulls as a “welcome to the family” tribute. “This was a very special time for me,” shares Emily. “I wore the tiara that my mother and grandmother had worn at their weddings. I’ll never forget putting the tiara on that morning with AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS 15
both of them with me.” H.B. also provided two family heirlooms—an engagement and wedding ring that once belonged to his great grandmother. It was a special time for both families, who were celebrating the lives of relatives, H.B.’s grandmother and Emily’s grandfather, who had passed away earlier in the year. After the ceremony, the families and their guests headed to The Golf Club of Amelia Island for cocktail hour and cake cutting. “Emily requested a signature drink for cocktail hour—a grapefruit spritzer fountain with a fresh berry bar—along with an ice sculpture loaded with bottomless local shrimp,” says Elizabeth. “Our guests loved it!” “The floral arrangements by Brooke and Revelation Design were a highlight,” says Emily. “My airy, cascading bouquet was exactly what I wanted.” Brooke also created 16 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
a dramatic 8-foot tall entrance arrangement of Holland peonies, orchids, garden roses, and cascading berries and vines for the reception. The Golf Club of Amelia Island provided a gourmet seated dinner with Emily’s and H.B.’s favorite dishes, and after dinner the guests danced the night away to the Crescendo Amelia Big Band. “We were excited to book Crescendo Amelia—they were amazing. The dance floor was packed all night long. We didn’t want it to end!” The night culminated with a Rolls Royce getaway car, and a smashing sparkler send off. The day after the wedding, Elizabeth and Mark hosted many of the guests at their home, while Emily and H.B. left for their Mediterranean honeymoon. “We reflected over and over about what a perfect wedding it was,” smiles Elizabeth. “It was the most joyful, beautiful event. We have so much to celebrate and so much to be thankful for.” When Emily looks back on her wedding day, she sees a chain of events that brought her and H.B. to the place they are now. “We celebrate every single day of our lives together,” says Emily. “We are blessed beyond belief.” AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS 17
Sarah & Charles T H E B A R N AT C O T T O N W O O D R A N C H By Marla McDaniel

An “official” first date on Valentine’s Day presents lots of possibilities and promise, as it did for Sarah Elizabeth Colsen and Charles Edward Adams III. They met at The Decantery in historic downtown Fernandina Beach in February 2018, and they enjoyed their first date a week later as Valentines. As their relationship developed through the spring and summer, it became apparent to both that an engagement was on the horizon. Charles wanted to find a special way of proposing to Sarah. Having lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, he knew that the Biltmore Estate in Asheville offered an ideal getaway and the perfect setting in which to plan their future. They drove to Asheville to take in the splendor of the Biltmore at Christmas, and Charles proposed at one of the estate’s scenic overlooks. Sarah said yes, and they called their families to share the happy news. The six-hour ride home provided time to begin 18 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
planning their wedding. Soon after their return, they began visiting local wedding venues with their families. While location details were being determined, they also began looking for a home to purchase. Sarah is a Nassau County native from Callahan. Charles liked the friendly nature of the county, and they became excited homeowners as their wedding date approached. Charles’s mother, Lauren Adams, assisted in the many decisions to set up the home, and new purchases were from Amelia’s Attic in Fernandina Beach as the Attic staff worked with the enthusiastic young couple to furnish and decorate their first home. Both Charles’ and Sarah’s wedding bands were purchased at Scott & Sons Fine Jewelry in Fernandina Beach. Their expertise at crafting Sarah’s ring from a family heirloom was invaluable, and the couple were pleased with the accommodating staff.
The Barn at Cottonwood Ranch, Callahan, was the perfect venue for this couple. Sarah and Charles can’t say enough good things about their entire experience at the beautiful venue, which had one unexpected twist develop as the wedding date drew near. Sarah’s mother, Linda, has several talents that fit naturally into wedding essentials. She designed and made all the floral decorations, and baked an almond pound cake, a family tradition. Lauren and her mother, in keeping with another tradition, baked a Mississippi Mud cake for the groom. The couple chose mauve accented Mayan (slate) blue, ivory, and gold as their wedding theme colors. Mission BBQ of Jacksonville was selected as the wedding caterer. Sarah’s brother-in-law is a firefighter, and they became acquainted with the company through their support of vets and first responders. Severine Photography of Jacksonville was selected for capturing wedding photos. All the couple’s plans came together seamlessly, except for one unexpected and interfering guest: Hurricane Dorian. Predicted to hit Nassau County as a Category 3 hurricane, the storm was cause for high anxiety. After a great deal of uncertainty and contingency planning, the weather turned out bright, sunny, and calm on the day of the wedding. The ceremony proceeded as planned, led by Charles’ grandfather, Charles Adams, who used the same order of service from a fourth-generation tradition. Bermuda had been a favorite vacation spot for each of them in the past, so they decided on the island for their week-long honeymoon. They have since settled into a happy life in Nassau County. They both work in Jacksonville, Sarah as a radiologic technologist and Charles as a production technician. They enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking local waters, playing with their dog Lucy, and trying new wines and cuisine. AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS 19
Alesia & Jason FLORIDA HOUSE INN By Julie Simmons
Photography by Dana Goodson Photography
Do you remember the tradition that the single woman who catches the bride’s bouquet will be the next to marry? Did you know it really comes true? It did for Alesia and Jason Hooper after Alesia caught the bouquet at the first wedding they attended together only six months into their relationship! “We met on a co-ed softball team surrounded by friends we both enjoyed,” they say from their home in Massachusetts, where they live and work at the University of Massachusetts. After a low-key but thrilling Saturday morning proposal, the couple was Amelia Island-bound for their special day. “I am from Amelia,” says the groom, who attended middle school and high school in Fernandina Beach before graduating from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville. 20 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
“We are on an academic schedule, so we have weeks at a time to spend in Amelia,” share the couple, who visit for two weeks in the summer, nearly the same at Christmas, and whenever they can. “We have our routine on Amelia,” they laugh. Jason fishes in the morning, they meet for lunch at Timoti’s Seafood Shak, then the rest of the day creates itself! “In planning our wedding, we wanted our friends and family to love what we love, spend time where we spend time, and experience what we experience here,” say Alesia and Jason. As friends and family arrived for the May wedding, the couple introduced their guests to a piece of Fernandina’s history, as most stayed at the wedding venue, the Florida House Inn, and others a stone’s throw away at the Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island
overlooking the harbor. “The best part was that everything we did was between these two points on the map,” the couple affirms. For the welcome party, the couple opted for a night at sea on an Amelia River Cruises sunset cruise. “We had food from Wicked Bao, dolphins playing in the water around us, and wild horses on Cumberland Island welcoming us.” It doesn’t get any more romantic than that, and friends and family were captivated by the natural beauty the Hooper’s excursion showcased. On the morning of their wedding day, Jason sat in a coffee shop in downtown Fernandina Beach while writing a card to his bride. Little did he know, she was penning her own card, which she had picked up at Hudson & Perry on Centre Street. “When we exchanged cards, you can imagine the looks on our faces when it was the exact same card!” she laughs. But that’s not all. Jason then surprised Alesia with a framed ribbon from the bouquet she had caught years ago, which she didn’t realize he had saved! When it was time to say “I do,” the Florida House Inn was all the couple could ask for in a venue. Adding to the beauty of the setting, Alesia’s bouquet and the gorgeous flowers for the celebration were by Brooke Raulerson of Revelation Design. “The Hoopers loved the intimate, brick courtyard, fountain, and romantic ambiance,” says Dana Schefke, event coordinator at Florida House. “The entire wedding party appreciated that the lodging, nuptials, and reception were all in one historic setting. The celebration moved in waves, feeling layered and well thought out. The day was heartfelt and beautiful from start to finish. We were honored to be part of welcoming their guests to Fernandina Beach and helping them to experience the charm of our historic island.” As the Hoopers continue to visit and enjoy Amelia Island, they cherish their memories and look forward to many years of traditions coming true. Shannon & Ben WALKER’S LANDING By Julie Simmons
Photography by Photography with LH
As the song says, “Goin’ to the chapel, and they’re goin’ to get married…” But that’s not all: when Shannon and Ben Langley went to Amelia Plantation Chapel to get married, they said their “I do’s” in the very church that Shannon’s grandfather helped found some 30 years ago. Shannon and Ben found each other online, and they have been together since the day they met. They decided on forever during a trip to Ireland, on a cliff overlooking the water, with the Langley family standing in support. Since family is paramount in their lives, they were committed to make their wedding day all about loved ones. When it was time to pick a venue, naturally Amelia Plantation Chapel was the place, since the bride’s grandfather, Jim Bowman, was a founding member. This year, the Chapel is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding, when Amelia Island Plantation 22 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
residents of a variety of Christian denominations decided to build a place to worship for their community. And it just so happens that the current pastor, Rev. Conrad Sharps, is the very same reverend who baptized and confirmed Ben at a different parish on Amelia Island years ago. “When I walked down the aisle, I don’t think there was a dry eye,” smiles Shannon. “When I met Ben, it was just me and my daughter, Brianna,” she explains, sharing that her daughter was her first and only choice for maid of honor. “Her birth father hasn’t been part of her life, and for the first time in 11 years, she was getting a dad!” Family and friends were ready to celebrate this special day at Walker’s Landing, overlooking the marsh at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort. The location was the perfect backdrop for the couple’s wedding photos, reflecting their passion for the
Amelia Island coast, where they love to fish and kayak. Montego Limousine Service was honored to transport the brand-new Mr. and Mrs. to the waiting party. “The reception was so much fun,” says the couple. With music by Monkey Wrench Band, filets and shrimp and grits by Alex Jensen and Patrick Garvin of Personal Cuisine Catering, customized overflowing cups, and cake by Nana Teresa’s Bake Shop, no detail was overlooked. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the entire wedding weekend on the island, with many staying at the Residence Inn by Marriot and others at oceanfront rentals. A highlight of the weekend was the rehearsal dinner at Ocean Club of Amelia, with waves rolling
onto the beach in the background, a winter breeze, and delicious food by Sliders Seaside Grill. Starting their new life together, the young family enjoys concerts and supporting their daughter’s middle school years, including her volleyball practices and games. Always keeping family first is their goal, and looking back on their special day, they’re proud it was all about that. “I cherish a photo of my bouquet by Revelation Design in the Chapel’s Memorial Garden beside a plaque recognizing my grandfather,” says Shannon. And we know that Mr. Bowman is smiling from heaven, wishing the Langley family all of God’s best from this day forward. AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS 23

AMELIA ISLAND BEACH WEDDINGS AND BAR ZIN BISTRO & WINE BAR Photography by Amelia Island Beach Weddings
Texans have a way of bragging that everything is bigger in Texas. Well, that may be true, but that doesn’t mean it’s better! At least that’s what Mark and Sheri Hurt say about their Amelia Island wedding, which they agree couldn’t have been topped! “I have been visiting Amelia Island since I was a child,” says Mark, who lives in Houston. In fact, his family enjoys a Fourth of July reunion every summer on the island. “My mom’s birthday is also the on the Fourth, and since she was turning 95, it only made sense that we take advantage of everyone being together.” So, on the fifth of July this year, Sheri walked the rose petal-sprinkled sand to her waiting groom at Main Beach here on Amelia Island. “When we started planning, we couldn’t believe how welcoming and friendly everyone was,” smiles Sheri. “They treated us like they’d known us all of our lives.” First on this local roster was Todd Smith of Amelia Island Beach Weddings, who helped plan and coordinate their wedding celebration. “The moment I met Mark and Sheri, all I could see was the love between the two of them,” says Todd. “The planning started with a call from Mark telling me he wanted to plan an elegant wedding and he wanted it to be very special for Sheri. He told me about Sheri and the blending of their families, and he spoke so beautifully of what they were about to do. “Then when I met Sheri and the boys, I could see what Mark was talking about. Sheri was captivating, and full of the sweetest soul. I’m so thrilled to have been a part of such a wonderful celebration. I’ve made friends for life with the family and look forward to seeing them every year for their anniversary.” The couple exchanged vows under a beautiful arbor draped with linens, with Sheri carrying a bouquet by Dobbie B Florist. the couple of invite him to officiate the service. A favorite of all the guests was the sand ceremony, where the couple symbolized the blending of not just themselves but their families, too. Following the ceremony, family and friends gathered at Bar Zin Bistro & Wine Bar for an intimate reception. “We kicked off with a welcoming around the fire pit,” the couple reminisces. “And then we gathered in their large space with steak, pasta, fresh seafood, and over-the-top service.” A cake from Nana Teresa’s Bake Shop completed the wonderful meal. “The staff at Bar Zin is always excited about hosting a wedding event at our venue because it means we have new additions to
the Zin family,” says Event Coordinator Karly Seyda. “It means a lot to us when people trust us to have a part in such significant events. We do everything in our power to ensure the planning is easy and all the food and service exceeds expectations. Mark and Sheri celebrated with us all the way from Texas, and we can’t wait for them to come back for their anniversary!” The Hurt family decided to extend their wedding celebration here, looking no further for a honeymoon. “We had our three kids together at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort for a week,” they laugh. An Amelia Island wedding with your loved ones all together—it doesn’t get any better than that! AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS 25

Salt Life Food Shack

“Salt Life” originated in Jacksonville Beach as a simple phrase uttered on a spearfishing trip by a local fisherman. Today, Salt Life is a widely recognized sub-culture amidst avid divers, surfers, fishermen, and everyone who loves the sound of surf, sand in their shoes, and beautiful ocean breezes. And that includes couples looking for the perfect place to hold their wedding reception and rehearsal dinner, or just a great place to entertain friends and family who’ve come for a weekend destination wedding in Northeast Florida. Salt Life Food Shack has three coastal locations: Fernandina Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and St. Augustine Beach, all offering on and off-site catering, custom menus, signature dishes and cocktails, along with a fun, “salty” attitude. 28 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
“We love the Salt Life and are thrilled when others feel the same enthusiasm for our space,” says Fernandina Beach’s Salt Life General Manager Marcos Jovel. “All of our managers are available to speak with any couples looking to create a unique and custom event at any of our locations.” For large weddings and events, clients are welcome to do a complete buy-out of the restaurant, which holds up to 400 guests at the Fernandina Beach location. Partial rentals are also available, including the Rooftop Bar and Lounge at 150 guests and the first-floor Patio, which also accommodates 150 people. Salt Life Food Shack of Fernandina Beach includes wide ocean views, a 1,600-gallon saltwater fish tank, and a comfortable, friendly atmosphere.
Because Salt Life Food Shack is located across from the ocean at Main Beach, couples holding a beach wedding can go directly to their wedding reception with their guests, sandy feet and all. “Salt Life Food Shack is designed to be a natural extension of the values and lifestyle exemplified by Salt Life,” says Holly SmithHale, Director of Marketing. “Our restaurants were developed with a commitment to the Salt Life brand, where ‘Living the Salt Life’ is a part of everyday life. We can’t think of a better way for a couple to start their journey together than with friends, family, and the beach at your feet.” But you don’t have to step inside the Shack to experience its signature food and laid-back, beachy atmosphere. Salt Life brings the Shack to you at any location you desire. Their chefs and staff are happy to customize the details of any event, including bridal showers, bachelor parties, and cocktail parties. “We offer a variety of menu options from our typical menu and can work with any couple to customize a menu for their special day,” says Jovel. “We are also able to accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions as needed and can provide event sample menus upon request.” And what do people like most about Salt Life? “Our guests, both our daily ones and our event guests, all have an appreciation for the Salt Life and the environment we offer,” says Jovel. “We are located in one of the most beautiful places in all of North Florida and have the pleasure of both seeing and hearing the ocean from our rooftop deck. Our food is perfect for a diverse crowd. We have developed an eclectic menu that features our favorite dishes from our travels here and abroad, and there really is something for everyone! Our staff and service are genuine. You and your guests will feel at ease with our team, and rest assured we are here to make your experience as special as it is.” For more information or to schedule an appointment to discuss your wedding or other special event, contact Salt Life Food Shack at any of their locations and ask to speak to the manager on duty. COURTESY OF BY ANGELINE
the latest in wedding jewelry By Karen Miller with Drew Scott Today’s bride is a savvy individual, and when it comes to jewelry trends, fashionistas from around the globe are saying, “Anything goes!” when it comes to choosing their engagement rings, wedding rings, and bridal jewelry. Drew Scott, owner of Scott & Sons Fine Jewelry, sees this every day, as the modern bride is looking for unusual shapes and settings that make a statement. “Recently a young man came into the shop inquiring about ‘edgy’ engagement rings,” says Scott. “He and his bride-to-be were looking for an uncut diamond to be made into a ring, as his fiancée preferred a more natural looking stone, and something that was very unique.” An uncut diamond is a stone that has not been cut or polished, and they are all part of the new ‘edgy’ engagement ring trend. “We find that this style continues to gain momentum in the jewelry industry,” says Scott. “Traditional stones and settings are still in the mix, but today’s bride is looking for unusual shapes, colorful stones, and unique settings. 30 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
“The halo diamond is still a popular style, with smaller diamonds encircling a larger center stone,” says Scott “But we’re definitely seeing a shift in shapes, with oval, round, and pear-shaped stones more popular.” Sometimes a family diamond will be provided, usually from the groom’s family, and the couple will choose a design to work the heirloom stone into a modern setting. “This is a way that couples can pay homage to their family, and save a little money at the same time.” A few brides like to give their bridesmaids jewelry gifts that they can wear for the wedding, and Scott is seeing a strong trend towards Marahlago Larimar jewelry. Larimar is a rare Caribbean gemstone with a unique blue color. “Because of our locale, many brides and bridesmaids are leaning toward this distinctive gemstone jewelry, with its ‘ocean-y” color and unique designs,” says Scott. “We find that the younger generation has less desire to go with old-fashioned traditions.” For wedding bands, couples want their own ring styles, and rarely do couples choose matching rings. “There’s a company we do business with called Lashbrook Designs that produces men’s wedding rings from unique metals,” says Scott. “And mixing metals is very trendy right now. It’s okay to pair gold with stainless steel, and yellow gold with rose gold. Sometimes a couple will come into the store and have their heart set on a certain color, and then change their minds when they try on different bands.” Another trend that Scott enjoys is layering necklaces of various sizes and styles. “There are some beautiful pieces that make a statement, both for brides and bridesmaids.” Alex Henriquez, Scott & Sons’ in-house jeweler, designs rings and other pieces by hand using the “lost wax method.” “Many couples want a oneof-a-kind design and Alex can create that for them,” says Scott. “The wax is hand-carved, and Alex can even set a stone into the wax so the bride can try on her ring and get a real idea of what it’s going to look like before the ring is cast.” “As gowns themselves are going in a more streamlined fashion, it allows for more interesting jewelry to be the focus,” says Scott. “The jewelry that you purchase for your loved on your wedding day will play a large role in her overall appearance.” For more information or to make an appointment with Drew Scott, call (904) 491-1550 or visit www.scottandsons.com.

Oscar de la Renta’s column gown features large, off the shoulder sleeves. We love this big presentation in line with the 80’s influence on this season’s bridal fashion. This ivory gown also uniquely incorporates the big bows 2019 introduced.
Monique Lhuillier’s “Celebration” gown debuts the new hue of tulle this season – ginger – a mix of blush and champagne. Tulle is popular now for the delicate sweep or boosting volume it creates. Paired with metallic embellishments, it’s absolutely gorgeous.
finding your own style In bridal fashion this year, the disco vibe of the 70’s and the more traditional look of the 80’s are still hot trends, bringing fringe, halters, scalloped necklines, and sleeves to the runway. By Julie Simmons “I always tell brides to follow their instinct throughout the wedding dress experience,” says one of our favorite designers, Monique Lhuillier, “but I encourage them to always keep an open mind in selecting their dress” This season, with a veritable buffet of bridal fashion full of innovative interpretations of held traditions, those are definitely words to the wise. For starters, brides can flash back to the past with 70’s flair and 80’s feel. The same disco vibes that are influencing high waistlines and midriff tops on runways today have made their way to the aisle. Think about reinvented jumpsuits, fitted or slinky slip dresses, parachute pants, and of course—fringe! Fringe is being used as an accent in new and innovative ways, creating allure when presented in sparkle and drama if you choose to super-size it. It’s bold when finishing the asymmetrical hemlines 32 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
that are all over the collections, or you can choose the asymmetry and leave the fringe aside, opting for chic ruffles instead. The 80’s are also back, adding a dash of class and femininity with scalloped necklines for the more traditional brides in the crowd. Staying on necklines, if you have arms you want to show, you can try the trending halter top. Or perhaps sleeves. Sleeves are huge this season, and not just because they are a hot trend. These big, puffy offerings are being seen in short, long, and offthe-shoulder offerings. If you don’t like big, go for something that fits like a glove. Lace appliques on fitted tulle can turn your skin into an embroidered tapestry; depending on the pattern, it can be delicate or edgy. For the past few seasons, jumpsuits were all the rave, but rising as 2020’s main dish are bridal suits and separates. The separates are

trousers with fabulous formal tops that feature all the major trends, including a train! Have you ever imagined a pant with a train? Oscar de la Renta and a few others can help you with their tailored, sleek trousers introducing delicate, dramatic, or detailed trains. And you can even tie up your train with a bow—a big one on the back! When it comes to trimming your top, think about oneshoulder, capes, or even long sleeves paired with the emerging look of crocheted lace. If you’re into blazers, the bridal blazer offers all sorts of mixtures, including sheer, laced, sleeveless, and bold as a short dress itself. For garnishment, think green! Vera Wang is noted for adding color to the runway over the years, introducing blush, red, and even black. Now, it’s pistachio’s turn. Soft pastels, including all shades of green, pink, purple, nude, and grey, are gorgeous and sometimes paired with the floral prints ubiquitous in today’s fashion. When it comes to fabric and textures, feathers continue to fly, both as graceful accents and dramatic head-to-toe fluff. Tulle is still tasty on runways this season, coming in a light, tiered-presentation or in a new shade—ginger— a mix of blush and champagne. One of our favorite trends is the emergence of Swiss dots—point d’esprit —timeless and classic. In case you saved room for dessert, the designers’ specialty is to finish your look with a statement accessory—gloves, a headpiece, or even a hat for the cherry on top. Whatever you choose, from Amelia Island Weddings Magazine, we hope you enjoy your special day, and many more as you begin life together! 34 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
Vera Wang’s light ivory A-line “Hazel” gown is gorgeously finished with macramé lace. The large, silk organza floral accents pick up on this season’s trend of pistachio hues on the runways.

Round seating, spiral seating, amphitheater style… it’s on the rise. We love the way these intimate setups create such a different atmosphere. Long gone are the traditional trellises. Round, octagonal, and even gravity-defying arches are making an impact. LESS CAKE, MORE PIE Translucent cakes are in. Instead of bare tiers, translucent cakes have a thin veil of icing with just a bit of the cake showing through. Jazz it up with caramel drizzle or chocolate ganache. Couples still 36 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
CUSTOM ILLUSTRATIONS My personal favorite trend is custom illustrations. A live artist capturing the ceremony or part of the reception is such a unique gift for the couple. You might also consider a rendering of the bride and groom for the guestbook, save-the-dates, or thank you cards. BALLOON WALLS According to Mindy Weiss, balloon walls are the new flower walls. “Balloons are no longer just for New Year’s Eve—they make wonderful, celebratory décor for any event, including weddings,” she explains. That’s right… balloons are back! CUSTOMIZED WEDDING SIGNS AND CALLIGRAPHY Another way to personalize your special day is by using chalkboards as directional signs, mirrors with bar menus in calligraphy for the cocktail hour, and large escort charts to add to the décor. Finish them off with eucalyptus or lemon leaf garlands, or a few vines of florals. CREATE YOUR OWN WELCOME GIFT Couples can easily send out wedding information digitally, removing the need for welcome gifts and itineraries delivered to the guests’ rooms. Many couples are opting for a Create Your Own station at the welcome party or rehearsal dinner. With a variety of items to choose from, your guests will take exactly what they want to kick off the festivities. METALLICS AND GEOMETRICS Reflective metallics add such depth to any color palette. The different shapes, sizes, and colors can be seen throughout ceremonies and receptions in the archways, centerpieces, and furniture. This is the perfect example of adding a modern twist. Lisa Presnell is the owner of one of the top wedding & event planning companies on Amelia Island in the WeddingWire network. For the past six consecutive years, Lisa Presnell Productions has been named WeddingWire’s Couple’s Choice Awards as the top 5% of wedding professionals nationwide for Excellence in Quality, Service, and Professionalism.

bold & beautiful With many recent trends still popular, overturn expectations with something completely unique. By Julie Simmons As many wedding designers are noting about the 2020 wedding season, just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it has to be predictable. With ceiling-scapes, food stations, and unique lighting dominating the trends, the biggest rage today is to go bold and overturn expectations with something completely unique for your special day! Let’s talk flowers first. Ranunculus, peonies, roses, and hydrangea have a front row seat with florists this season. When choosing your bouquet, boho chic loose flowers with greenery and garden style are hip for the seasons ahead, but designers caution not to immediately opt for trendy. It’s important to bring a picture of your gown to your florist, since you want the bouquet to complete, not compete, with you. Many brides are choosing smaller bouquets with white flowers for a timeless look to accomplish just this. When it comes to blooming décor, order it togo—for your guests, that is! This environmentally38 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
friendly movement presents table and other décor in small shapes for family and friends to take away as favors. You can wrap the bouquets with paper and ribbon for the ride home or arrange them using inexpensive glass vases. Along the same lines, brides are always encouraged to shop local for their flowers. If you are a DIY bride, consider working with your local florist or farmer’s market to order your supplies. As you plan your venue design, think big, as in ceiling-to-floor big. Drapery, hanging floral gardens, and trailing flowers are intimate and gorgeous in a number of designer’s portfolios right now. These great concepts can definitely add to your budget, so consider in-season flowers or opting for linen or sheer drapery, or maybe balloon sculptures that feel like bubbles. You can transform any space into somewhere different by pairing these trends with the interesting lighting that is showing up in designers’ collections. Loads of taper candles, tea lights, or exposedbulb illumination are all budget-friendly choices that create a special aura just for your wedding. Lastly, as you outfit your space, seek other opportunities to add appeal: flowers on the mantle, big signage for the entryway, or arrangements in the little girls’ room. When it comes to food, brides are still aiming to surprise guests this year. As food trucks and stations are becoming the norm, how can you bring in the unexpected this year? Maybe it’s DIY – make your own sub, cut your own ham, or even blacken your own fish in a mini cast-iron skillet. Deserts are always a fun place to add a fun experience to your celebration. How about waffle or pancake booths, ice cream or smoothie shops, or even a popcorn bar? Other brides are going healthy and skipping the sweets altogether in exchange for tiered displays of cheese or fruit. Fun food combined with a good band is sure to make your guests smile. Bands are the trend over DJs for 2020, with wedding planners saying this is one place to earmark in your budget. Finally, add color to your day—colors are in for 2020! In the spring, pastels will naturally be prevalent, but if you don’t like them, you have options. Martha Stewart encourages you to think about how color incorporates feelings, like yellow to celebrate the end of winter. Greenery will always have its place, but the go-green tendency made a shifted to grass and non-traditional foliages, with designers opting for a variety of hues. As your wedding day approaches, we at Amelia Island Weddings Magazine wish you love and joy, two timeless values that are always in season. Congratulations!

honeymoon
ON AMELIA ISLAND
By Karen Miller Amelia Island’s beautiful ocean beaches and quaint appeal beckon honeymooning couples to reconnect with the things that matter most in life. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living, situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, Amelia Island’s beauty is sure to inspire romance. Book a honeymoon on Amelia Island and your heart will be touched with a real sense of hospitality and warmth, coupled with a wide range of amenities that will create a perfect honeymoon experience. There’s a lot of work that goes into wedding planning, and by the time the vows are recited, the bridal cake cut, and the last guest strolls back to their room, the newly married couple is eager to spend time alone. Amelia Island abounds in upscale bed and breakfasts, world-class resorts and hotels, exclusive restaurants, and championship golf courses. There is much to do and see around the island, and lots of quiet time for newly married couples to spend together before setting out on their new lives as husband and wife. For couples who love the outdoors, Amelia Island has golfing, tennis, kayaking, surfing, fishing, 42 AMELIA ISLAND WEDDINGS
beachcombing, biking trails, and horseback riding. If relaxation is your preference, there are numerous places to enjoy spa treatments, fine dining, music, theatre, and art galleries. Whether lounging on the beach, luxuriating in a beautiful resort, or enjoying a gourmet meal together, sunny Amelia Island will help you celebrate your romantic union in style. In the center of Fernandina Beach, The Fairbanks House has been recognized as one of the most beautiful bed and breakfast inns in the country. Recently named the “Best Place to Elope” by WhereToElope.com, the inn boasts striking Italianate architecture, along with rooms that are charming and comfortable, many with Jacuzzis and private porches. Innkeeper and owner Theresa Hamilton provides wine and chocolatecovered strawberries upon your arrival, as well as spa robes, upscale amenities, and free WiFi in the rooms. “We cater to romance,” says Hamilton. “We are all about quiet, romantic getaways, and we can accommodate every need.” Several of the oversized rooms even have small kitchens and all rooms have coffee makers. A two-course breakfast, complimentary use of bikes, a pool and beach equipment, along with evening beverages and hors d’oeuvres, round out the carefree pampering that couples will remember for a lifetime. Located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean is the Amelia Hotel at the Beach. This locally owned and operated hotel is convenient to area attractions, dining and shopping. “Our hotel offers spacious guest rooms with a location designed to leave guests with great memories at affordable prices,” says Holly Germano, General Manager. “Guests love the comfortable rooms with abundant amenities, Hot & Healthy Breakfast, as well as our evening refreshments—and our Lobby Lounge is the perfect place to enjoy a night cap.” Elizabeth Pointe offers newleyweds oceanfront relaxation with refined Southern hospitality.
