LETTER FROM THE Editor
natural beauty, and a wide array of outstanding venues, it’s easy to see why our enchanting island paradise has become so popular.
In addition to destination weddings, we always enjoy featuring Amelia Island families who have celebrated a son or daughter’s wedding here at home. It is an honor to share with you these celebrations with a local connection. Families with Amelia Island roots always have their favorite places for bridal luncheons, rehearsal dinners, barbeques, fishing and golf, after-parties, and next-day brunches.
As the publishers of Weddings, we have the sincere pleasure each spring and fall to feature one of the most important occasions in anyone’s life: their wedding. It’s always a thrill to feature in these pages some of the beautiful couples who have begun their lives together here on Amelia Island. These uplifting stories of love are always inspiring.
Although it seemed like Covid wreaked havoc on everyone’s wedding plans over the last couple of years, it looks like we are finally working through the backlog of postponed wedding celebrations. Although some weddings were reimagined as more intimate gatherings, many couples waited until this year to have an event closer to the wedding they had planned originally. Either way, it is wonderful to see happy couples celebrating again surrounded by family and friends. One of the only things that didn’t change was that couples still wanted to exchange vows here on Amelia Island.
In the last decade, Amelia Island has become one of the top destinations wedding locations in the Southeast, and perhaps the whole country. Since we began highlighting weddings over fifteen years ago, Amelia Island has attracted a great number of couples who want to celebrate an unforgettable wedding weekend with their loved ones. With its historic churches, stunning
In this issue, many of our featured wedding stories have connections to Amelia Island, having been either born and raised here or having parents living on the island. These couples have used their local know-how to create unforgettable wedding weekends for their family and friends.
The stories we share with you are joyful and inspiring. In addition to the couples featured here, we want to congratulate everyone who has celebrated their wedding in the last six months. Seeing people at this magical moment in their lives is a deeply moving experience, a hopeful moment that is both heartwarming and life-affirming. As in the stories from this issue, the heart of the occasion always shines through in every wedding, whether large or small, lavish or simple.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue of Amelia Island Weddings as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Visitors and residents alike know all about Amelia’s unique allure: the long stretches of unspoiled beach, scenic pockets of marsh, and moss-draped oaks. Whether you’re a resident, a regular visitor, or a newcomer to Amelia, we hope our magazine will inspire you to imagine the extraordinary possibilities available to you on this beautiful 13-mile-long barrier island.

Samantha & Mike
THE AMELIA RIVER CLUB
By Julie Simmons Photography by byDesign Photo + FilmFor everyone out there who is married and reading our Amelia Island love stories, doesn’t it feel great to daydream and reminisce about the day you were all dressed up, giddy with anticipation, and saying your own, “I dos” – maybe even right here on Amelia Island? For Samantha and Mike Block, they would agree. Round one was so perfect, why not do it again?
The duo are avid surfers, and they met on the water in southern California. They married in 2010 in an intimate seaside wedding on the Pacific Ocean, followed by a honeymoon in Pebble Beach.
“We did a super-small family ceremony with the full intention of renewing our vows a decade later, but COVID got us, so 2022 became our year,” explains Mike. “After the pandemic, we wanted to do something to celebrate us, our friends, and share Amelia Island with our family.” What could possibly be better than a second wedding, or vow renewal, to put a checkmark on all their wishes!
Samantha and Mike came to Amelia Island with the golfing industry. “I am a golf pro, and of course, Florida is the golfing
capital of the world. We came here by way of the Omni Amelia Island Resort, and today, I have the privilege of being general manager of The Amelia River Club,” shares Mike. As it happened, The Amelia River Club was in the midst of opening its own wedding and special event venue at the same time the couple was dreaming about their renewal celebration.
“We are pleased to offer a gorgeous, riverfront venue. With the backdrop of lush, green marsh grasses, rolling hills of golf terrain, all under a canopy of oak trees, the natural beauty is stunning. Complementing what heaven has already given us, we’ve added a 5,000-plus square foot tent for both open air and closed entertaining of up to 250 guests,” says Amelia River Club’s Event Director Michelle Miller. “An added benefit of our property is that you may use your own vendors for catering and more – it’s totally up to you!”
Even on a weekday afternoon, a stroll through The Amelia River Club property and restaurant doesn’t disappoint. With its stunning views of the marsh and the Amelia River, it provided the perfect setting this year in May for the Blocks to say “I do” for the second time. With white, green, and lavender as their wedding colors popping alongside the property’s unparalleled natural beauty, it couldn’t have been more beautiful thanks to the support of Planning Forever, the couple’s wedding planning company.
“Having the chance to do a wedding the second time takes all the stress away, but wow, it doesn’t take away the excitement,” the couple agrees. “It was a brand-new start for us for no other reason than that we wanted it, and we wanted to entertain our family and beloved Amelia Island friends,” Samantha and Mike reminisce.
And entertain they did! With the gentleman playing golf during the long weekend, the ladies enjoying Caribbean Salon for their pampering, and Lagniappe preparing an amazing pre-
wedding party, the family from around the globe and local friends were ready to celebrate.
On the wedding day, hearts melted as Mike, an amateur guitarist, played and sang his special song for Samantha with the sun setting in the background, kicking off an evening of fun and dancing to the tunes of Island Sound DJ. Family and friends sipped custom drinks, “The Knarley” and “The Teddy,” named after the couple’s late golden retriever and puppy golden doodle, and guests enjoyed a delicious meal presented by Southern Soul Barbeque. Custom cupcakes from Breakable Hearts provided a sweet finish to the evening.
As the event came to a close, the couple was all smiles sending their guests off with a tealight, wooden candleholder to remind them of their illuminated evening of celebration under the oaks. In the days following, the couple entertained their families on their beloved Amelia Island before enjoying one more honeymoon!
Randi & Buddy SUGAR
POINTE ESTATE
By Julie Simmons Photography by Alex Wisted PhotographyRandi Dopson grew up playing in the green pastures of Sugar Pointe Estate, fishing on the dock, and dreaming of being a bride and saying “I do” one day under the property’s rich canopy of historic oaks.
“When I got engaged on Christmas Eve last year, the first thing I said was, ‘We are getting married at Sugar Pointe!’” And that Randi and Buddy Winters did in March this year.
For those of you unfamiliar with Sugar Pointe Estate, it’s an Old Florida, 50-acre estate originally established in the 1860s and boasting manicured pastures, 100-year-old oaks, maples, magnolias, and palms, with 2,500 feet of waterfront footage on the Bells River.
The property offers a couple of venue options for wedding celebrations, including the Sugar Shack, which offers a full kitchen and a 1,500-foot hardwood dance floor, along with The Boathouse positioned on the 1,000-foot pier extending over the river and featuring a rooftop deck. The property also lodging for the wedding party, including the 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath River House and an Air Stream that sleeps two.
“We absolutely loved that we could arrive on Friday, settle into the house, and then get to work preparing for the wedding with everything we needed onsite,” explains Randi. With a palate of plum, cabernet, emerald, and navy jewel tones, the décor was gorgeous beside the natural green pastures. Baker Boutique Design managed the florals, incorporating the same hues alongside signage that Randi created for a perfect finish. By the time the sun rose on the day of the wedding, everything was ready-to-go, and the bride was stress-free on her special day.
“After the rehearsal dinner, we kicked out all the boys, and my mom, aunt, and bridesmaids stayed up late laughing and telling stories. The next morning, we woke up and enjoyed more time together while Amelia Hair Therapy prepped us for the wedding.
I can’t reiterate enough how lovely it was to be at the venue and relaxed for the day ahead.”
Not only did local venues and vendors make for a perfect wedding, but Fernandina Beach’s own Beauty Within: A Bridal Boutique was where Randi said “yes” to her dress!
While Randi and her mom were into all the details, there were a couple of surprises that made the day even better. “When I walked out of the house to head to the ceremony, Buddy surprised me with a horse and carriage from Jacksonville Carriage Company. It was super romantic, and we enjoyed a stroll around the property after the wedding, too!”
“Randi and Buddy’s wedding showcased the true diversity of our property,” shares Sugar Pointe Estate owner Kelly Manus. “To accommodate something as magical as a horse-drawn carriage, and all of the other details that made their day so memorable,
we were proud to take part in making their dreams—from long before we were even a venue—come true.”
At 5:30 p.m., the couple said, “I do,” with Randi’s aunt officiating and guests enjoying a “shot” with the couple for their first time as husband and wife. Nearly 100 friends and family were ready for a fun night, which kicked off with a cocktail hour featuring smoking drinks by Smokin’ Lew Cocktail Smokers and a charcuterie bar. The reception continued into the night with a plated dinner and entertainment by Freezers Mobile DJ.
As Randi looks back through her wedding album and reminisces, she will tell you that the day and venue was everything she dreamed about as a little girl—and more—with her new husband by her side. The newlyweds recently moved to Savannah, Georgia and are enjoying exploring a new town as they build their lives together.
Laura & Christopher
FLORIDA HOUSE INN
By Mandy Haynes Photography by Susan Eason PhotographyWhen Laura Foley and Christopher Pennella met in 2019, they quickly bonded over their love of teaching. Not long after, they were on a trip in Belize when Chris proposed.
“We’d rented a golf cart to tour the island, stopping at several beaches throughout the day,” remembers Laura. “I didn’t understand why it was so important to find one more beach before returning the cart, but we did, and we wandered down to the water. As I looked out at the view, he dropped down to one knee.”
This spring, surrounded by friends and family, Laura and Christopher became husband and wife, and the Florida House Inn was the perfect place for their wedding celebration. “We just love the Florida House Inn. Chris and I have had several dates there, along with the Green Turtle, which is adjoined. I always take my out-of-town guests there for brunch or cocktails, and we
were so happy to share the setting with all our guests. We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding, and their combination of beautiful oak trees with patio space was perfect,” says Laura.
April Foley, the mother of the bride, agrees. “The Florida House Inn has always been one of our favorite places. We love its charm, which personifies historic downtown Fernandina. The patio is lovely, and we knew an evening wedding at sunset would be beautiful there.”
For the rehearsal dinner, Laura and Chris booked a sunset cruise with Amelia River Cruises so they could share the beauty of Amelia Island and the surrounding area with their guests. They used a small local company called Breakable Hearts for some of the catering, and the family did the rest.
Heidi Higginbotham of Foxy Posh Events did the flowers and decorations. They chose Susan Eason Photography as their
“We used as many local vendors as we possibly could, and everyone really went all out to make it a beautiful event. I’d like to say a special thank you to Megan Chism with Saltmarsh Hospitality Group. She went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly,” says the mother of the bride.
“We had guests come in from California, New Jersey, Germany, and Guam, so we decided on a Southern Coastal menu for the cocktail hour as well as the reception dinner. Guests gave high praise for the food and the service,” shares Laura.
Were there any surprises for Laura on her big day? “My favorite surprise was a scavenger hunt put together by the bridesmaids.” Guests used a Polaroid camera to follow written instructions found on Post-It notes inside a makeshift “photo-booth”. The photos are now hanging on the couple’s wall as a fun reminder of their special day.
The second surprise came before the cake-cutting ceremony, when the new couple found themselves separated from their cake with an unfolded bedsheet and presented with a teeny tiny nailcutting scissors to cut their way through. This is a German cutout-heart race, meant to symbolize a couple’s first challenge.
“We started cutting out the huge heart drawn on the sheet, then began tearing (which is apparently not allowed – we didn’t know!). Once the heart was cut out, Chris had to carry me through it. He was so afraid of catching onto and tearing my veil or tripping on the sheet, but we made it and survived our first challenge as a married couple!”
For their honeymoon, the couple went on a safari in Africa, followed by some island time in the Seychelles. “Chris and I are both science teachers and animal lovers, so we loved seeing all the wildlife in South Africa and Botswana,” says Laura. “We also saw Victoria Falls in Zambia, where Chris tried whitewater rafting for the first time. After the safari, we relaxed along the wide sandy beaches of Praslin Island, which looked like it was straight out of a postcard.”
Amanda & Geoff WALKER’S LANDING
By Karen Miller Photography by Flora & Fauna PhotographyAmanda Adam met Geoff Gillman in Boston in 2019. Amanda lived near Fenway Park and didn’t have a car, and Geoff lived in East Boston with a car. “Geoff, being born and raised in Massachusetts, wanted to show me areas outside the Boston city limits,” says Amanda. “On our first date, we walked his Bernedoodle, Ollie, through the Fells, a park just outside Boston.” Not only did Amanda and Geoff hit it off from the start, Ollie gave his approval, and the couple began dating seriously.
Amanda’s family has had a house on Amelia Island since 2002, and her parents eventually retired to the island in 2010. Her sister landed in Atlantic Beach in Jacksonville after attending Clemson University. Although Amanda and Geoff fell in love in New England, Amelia Island was calling them.
“When the pandemic hit in 2020, Geoff and I were working in Boston and living just outside the city in a tiny apartment,” says Amanda. “When Boston shut down, we seized the opportunity to visit my parents and experience island life.”
After a year and three long trips to Amelia Island, Amanda and Geoff decided to move to Fernandina Beach permanently. Soon after the couple moved to Amelia, Amanda began to study for the Florida Bar Exam. Little did Amanda know, in the midst of her bar exam preparations, Geoff was planning the perfect proposal.
“I found out later that almost the whole town of Fernandina knew about the proposal!” laughs Amanda. “Geoff was so excited. We owe J.J. COOPER and First Love Brewing a special thank you for keeping his secret!” Geoff proposed to Amanda
on Boneyard Beach at Big Talbot Island. He then planned for Amanda’s family to meet them at the Fernandina Harbor for a sunset cruise with Amelia River Cruises to celebrate together, after which the couple enjoyed a special dinner at David’s Restaurant.
For their wedding in May, the couple knew they wanted to introduce their friends and family to their new home of Amelia Island. “We planned a full weekend to show off some of our favorite spots and create a memorable island experience for outof-state guests,” says Amanda. “Notwithstanding the natural beauty of Walker’s Landing, a big reason we chose that venue was due to its handicap accessibility. Geoff’s mom, Enid, uses a wheelchair, so we wanted her to be comfortable navigating through the wedding venue.”
Amanda and Geoff’s destination wedding weekend began with a welcome dinner at the Sandbar & Kitchen at Main Beach. On Saturday, they rented out the pavilion next to the Amelia Island Welcome Center and used that space for the wedding rehearsal. Their rehearsal dinner was catered in the courtyard of the Island Art Association, and after the rehearsal dinner, the guests met the wedding party group for dancing and drinks at the Green Turtle.
“Our design inspiration for our wedding was vintage Florida,” says Amanda. “Dairing Events seamlessly incorporated those details into our wedding design.” There were several nods to Ollie at Amanda and Geoff’s wedding: the bar on the back porch at Walker’s was dubbed “Ollie’s Tiki Bar” and his image also appeared on the cocktail napkins.
Their wedding was vintage Florida through and through, from the food to the décor, to the natural beauty that is Walker’s Landing. And, after their perfect weekend, Amanda and Geoff honeymooned in Hawaii, before settling into married life on Amelia Island, where today they enjoy the splendor and serenity this coastal community has to offer.
Lauren & Jordan
OYSTER BAY YACHT CLUB
By Dikcie Anderson Photography by Brooke ImagesWhen Lauren Martino moved to Jacksonville from New York after graduating from nursing school, little did she know she would meet the man she would marry. Arriving in Jacksonville, she knew few people. She met Jordan Denby online. He was her first and only date!
The two lead busy lives. Jordan is an engineer/paramedic with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Lauren is a labor and delivery registered nurse at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
The couple chose Amelia Island for their wedding celebration because it was a perfect combination of feeling like home for the Jacksonville couple and a fun getaway destination. “We chose Oyster Bay Yacht Club for our wedding because of their incredible staff and their unique and beautiful venue, which allowed us to
get married outdoors but also have a covered indoor reception option.” Oyster Bay is situated under majestic ancient oaks with expansive water views and it offers many different settings for exchanging vows and for the reception.
Lauren and Jordan were married on a September evening this year. It meant a great deal to the couple to be married by Brien Marx, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief. The cocktail hour and reception were held immediately following the ceremony. Guests enjoyed a charcuterie table station as well as a seafood table.
A special touch at the reception were the cocktail napkins with fun facts about the couple. A cigar station proved popular. Cigars could be enjoyed at the wedding or taken home as favors. Although the couple’s two dogs, Texas and Millie, did not participate, they
were remembered fondly. Dog cookies from Amelia Island’s local dog bakery, Redbones Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique, were favors to take home by guests.
The wedding cake was created by Alleycakes in Atlantic Beach. It was champagne flavored with raspberry and cream cheese filling and white meringue buttercream frosting. Florals consisted of lush greenery with white and blush blooms. Floral details were added to the cake. Guests danced to the music of Who Rescued Who! The couple’s first dance was to “Joy of My Life” by Chris Stapleton.
The wedding coordinator and the bride became very close while planning the wedding. Ashton Hunter, weddings and events manager at Oyster Bay, with the assistance of Sarah Woodward, worked tirelessly to plan their perfect wedding. “Working in weddings is such an amazing job,” shares Ashton, “and then you come across a couple like Lauren and Jordan it reaffirms how lucky we are to do what we do!”
When Ashton faced the early delivery of her son, Elliott, she arrived at the hospital to discover that Lauren would be the
delivery nurse and stay with her through the entire experience. “She was with me for one the most important days of my life, and I was with her at her wedding for one of the most important days of her life!” says Ashton.
The rehearsal dinner offered the wedding party and their guests a chance to enjoy Amelia Island’s historic district. The back patio at Cafe Karibo offered the perfect venue and showcased the charm of downtown Fernandina Beach.
“Our wedding was truly a meeting of North and the South, as Jordan’s family is from Jacksonville and mine is from New York,” shares Lauren. The couple savored the dynamics of the families coming together. Out-of-towners enjoyed activities suggested by the couple, like Gregor MacGregor’s Mini Golf, Mocama Beer Company, and Duck Pinz.
Three days after the wedding, the couple left for a ten-day honeymoon in Greece, where they visited the islands of Santorini and Mykonos and finished their trip in Athens. They are now settled back in their jobs with great memories of their Amelia Island wedding.

show your own style
By Lindy KavanaughWhen it comes to engagement rings, anything goes. Do you follow trends? Do you read about who is wearing which designer? Are you following the latest celebrity engagements? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’ll know that right now “different” is in.
Something unique has been a frequent request whenever customers are designing their own engagement ring, and now alternative bridal is much more widely available. Several years ago, I wrote about the trend of colored stone engagement rings (think Kate Middleton), and since then, we’ve seen many new styles adorning the left hands of stylish brides.
Salt and pepper diamonds have made a place for themselves in the bridal department and are a refreshing option if you’re looking for a big look with a smaller budget. Many salt and pepper diamonds are available in unique cuts as well, like chunky rose cuts, octagon shapes, and kite cuts, to name a few.
Diamond cuts often fall in and out of fashion, but currently, all cuts are in style. Changing the
orientation of the setting into an East/West style can make an elongated cut seem edgy and different, and it is an easy way to refresh an engagement ring look. Engagement rings are usually worn every day, so take the opportunity to express your personal style! Also, the East/West setting is easier to stack with diamond wedding bands.
Vintage engagement rings are a wonderful way to find something different that isn’t necessarily in the mainstream, and it can be an eco-friendly and price-conscious alternative. In the past, vintage styles might have been passed over for something more contemporary, but times have changed, and couples are more open to shopping for pre-owned rings. Buying a vintage ring is a great opportunity to find something that not everyone has.
Moi et toi rings are a lovely style of ring on the scene, and they are a cousin to the three-stone ring. Where the three stone ring represents your past, present, and future together, the moi et toi (“me and you”) ring symbolizes a couple’s togetherness. Combining colored stones and mismatched shapes and sizes also makes for a very unconventional look.
Practical ring purchases are also winning out over traditional rings, and many brides choose to wear their engagement ring on the right hand while wearing the wedding band on the left. It’s a more casual look and wearing the engagement ring separately gives you more room to stack wedding bands. Diamond wedding bands add more bling, but bands with some colored stones or black diamonds can be fun to mix in to change the look of your rings a little.
Wedding bands for men have also become more interesting. It’s not unusual to have men ask for bands made of an alternative metal like tungsten carbide, carbon fiber, or titanium. Will wedding bands made of special materials like meteorite and elysium soon be the norm?
One size does not fit all anymore when it comes to wedding and engagement rings. I like to think that couples have realized the importance of the rings they are wearing, which symbolize their commitment to one another and say to the world they are spoken for. In the end, the meaning of the ring is the most important part of all.

a focus on intentionality
By Julie SimmonsWith a new year on the doorstep, a pandemic in the shadows, and new themes emerging in the world, it’s fascinating to watch how these forces come together, especially in wedding fashion! To encapsulate the new trend in the wedding industry, we might call it “intentionality.”
Perhaps this resonates with you, as we have all learned to be more intentional in the last couple of years, whether in spending in time with family after being separated from them, on inclusivity and kindness in a sometimes angry and frustrated world, and on individual and collective creativity. This intentionality is front-and-center with wedding designers, too, as you’ll see in the bold creations they are presenting in wedding attire for the coming season.
One of the first trends of this new era is that the “wedding” extends on the front and back ends of the “wedding day.” This
expansive trend requires the bride to plan a full wedding wardrobe, and designers are ready to offer all the options for a cohesive look from event to event.
One prominent bridal guide noted that there is now an unspoken understanding that what the bride wears to her bridal shower or day-after brunch can be just as striking as the wedding gown. From party dresses in white, to bridal swimwear, and even themed pajamas, brides are coordinating their outfits from one event to the next for self-expression, and of course, all the attention!
For the bespoke wedding day, brides have a collection of options to add some “wow” to the day, starting with color and pattern. In seasons past, we’ve seen pink, red, and even black debut, and now it’s time for blue to take the stage. Whether a light blue gown, an accent on the shoes, a blue flower girl dress, or in accessories, it’s easy to find that “something blue” this year.
As various themes emerge across the globe in our post-Covid world, these same forces are shaping wedding fashions this season, summed up best by the idea of “intentionality.”Monique Lhuillier’s Viviana is an off-theshoulder, long-sleeved lace mermaid gown with waist-cinching corset and delicate train detail. We love the coastal vibe of this fall or early-spring gown. Romina, by Ines Di Santo, is a sleeveless v-neck cocktail dress with a square back and asymmetrically hand painted pleated ball gown overskirt. It’s perfect for your something blue!

Patterns are equally prevalent, with floral trends continuing to blossom in both earthy tones and the 3D florals that we are wild about in the bridal offerings of Mira Zwillinger, Lela Rose, and Oscar de la Renta.
In the meantime, bows continue to “take a bow,” but they are a bit more conservative this season. Designers have untied their creativity and accentuated bows as train ties cascading down the backside gowns, featured them within cutouts on the bodice, and continue to delicately use bows to accent waist sashes as well.
As for the style of gown, all the options are available. From 1990s-style slip dresses and minis (think Love Shack fancy!) to traditional ballgowns, all styles are on the table. And they are showing up in all sizes! With intentionality, size inclusion is emerging like never before on the runways. If you’re into that slip dress, this season checkout the open and cowl back options, which are absolutely stunning. If you’re more of a glamor girl, the ballgowns with all their splendor might be right for you. You can also consider a variety of necklines for your gown, including off-the-shoulder with sleeves, straight, a-symmetrical, and mock.
Maybe it’s just too hard to choose, as designers are encouraging brides to accessorize this season for a blend of it all! Popular accessories include mini-length veils, which are short and striking. Gloves, especially long ones that extend above the elbow, are trending and available with plenty of options, including beaded, lace, or transparent. Belts are also shot and can be found adorning ball gowns and pants suits in particular. And last but not
least, capes are still here in either long, a-symmetrical, high collar dramatic or sexy and transparent selections.
Brides, as you set out to make all these choices, we invite you to do as the designers have done—have fun, be intentional, and make choices that will keep you smiling during your wedding event and with lots of happy memories for the rest of your lives. From Amelia Island Weddings Magazine,
and best wishes for a bright future ahead!
the latest wedding trends
By Lisa Presnell, PWCAs couples prepare for their special day on Amelia Island this year, brides and grooms are ready to celebrate with family and friends, and they are busy taking advantage of everything that Amelia has to offer. As wedding celebrations slowly get back to full swing, some new trends are emerging.
SUSTAINABILITY/ ECO-FRIENDLY
Many couples are using their wedding day as an opportunity to reduce their impact, whether that means eco-friendly favors and decor or locallysourced food. We are seeing potted plants replacing traditional flowers. Less waste and farm-to-table food is a strong trend.
SPECIALTY VENDORS
Couples are choosing more interactive ways to entertain their guests. Every wedding needs the standard vendor team (venue, planner, caterer, DJ/ Band, florist, photographer/videographer), but more couples are getting even more creative. At many celebrations, it looks like specialty vendors such as dancers, performers, food trucks, live
painters, and 360 degree slow-motion photo booths will be a huge hit in 2023.
BRIDAL SUBSCRIPTION BOXES
A bridal subscription box is a monthly subscription box catered to a bride-to-be. It’s a themed box that will arrive at a prospective bride’s house once a month filled with bridal gifts, goodies, and wedding planning essentials. We’ve seen everything from journals, candles, tote bags, planning calendars, and more!
UNIQUE WEDDING ATTIRE
Uniqueness, expressing one’s individuality, is one of the hottest new trends. Couples are making their own rules and their own traditions. Why throw a huge celebration in your honor and not shine? If you want to skip the traditional white dress and glam it up like you are going to the Met Gala, then do that! Prefer cowboy boots and jeans? Then I say giddy up! Every aspect of your wedding day should reflect your personality. It’s your day. You call the shots.
AFTER-PARTY MINI DRESS
You spent the entire day getting ready, you’ve made your entrance, said “I Do,” and your wedding dress feels tighter as the night progresses and the train keeps getting stepped on. You didn’t hire the entertainment for nothing. Change into that mini dress and hit the dance floor with your guests. Take advantage of every moment. Get comfortable or more glamorous—whatever you decide, get the party started and have fun!
NOSTALGIC TOUCHES
We all love that warm cozy feeling when we’re reminded of something from our childhood. Think outside the box. Renting a school bus to transport your guests rather than a traditional airport shuttle will not only be more cost effective, but a fun surprise for your guests. Or maybe have your caterer put a twist on some of your favorite family recipes that Grandma used to make.
Games and inflatable bounce houses are a fun way to bring back childhood memories. They’re not your average bounce houses though, from clear to white—these bounce houses are fun and surprisingly chic. Paired with corn hole, bocce, and oversized lawn games like Connect Four and Jenga, your guests are sure to have an amazing time.

creativityabounds
As wedding designers let their creative impulses loose, wedding celebrations are being reimagined with new themes, bold colors, and unexpected entertainment.
By Julie SimmonsIf you’re planning to say “I do” in the coming year, get ready to have some fun preparing for your special day! Wedding designers are letting their creativity take them all over the map, leading to a reimagining of the wedding as an experience that will be long remembered by all.
Speaking of being all over the map, maps are actually in one of the top spots of coming trends for guest experiences. Most couples will agree that “the wedding” today is more than a ceremony and reception; it’s a portfolio of events to celebrate the couple that includes planned gatherings on both the front and back ends of the wedding proper.
With this context as your backdrop, designers recommend creating a wedding map to guide your guests to each event, along with a reminder of each
event’s day and time. At Amelia Island Weddings Magazine, we love this idea, as so many coupes choose Amelia for their destination weddings. We can envision a beautiful themed map that highlights our gorgeous beaches and rich history filled with pirates, shrimping, and the railroad!
Themed maps are not the only themes to keep in mind. Wedding themes are all the rage this season, from tropical or super hero to secret garden or Victorian, couples are having fun creating cohesion between their celebrations, from showers to bachelor(ette) weekends to the wedding itself. And colors are also a theme! In past seasons, we’ve seen minimalistic styles, but color is stepping back onstage and in a whimsical way with yellow, gold, mustard, and blue standing out.
As creativity emerges, tradition is stepping backstage for many couple’s nuptials. The traditional “bridal party” has evolved to include both the bride and groom’s besties—whether male or female— shifting the nomenclature to “wedding party.” Similarly, the tradition of matching bridesmaids and groomsmen has shifted to mismatched, from the dress to the bouquet, allowing each wedding attendant’s personality to shine.
Other long-time wedding staples like the garter and bouquet toss are also beginning to fade as couples create new ways to symbolize their love, perhaps with the ever-popular first look or building in a private first dance. And last but not least, the tradition of a Saturday wedding has shifted in recent years to include Friday and Sunday, but the boundaries continue to stretch with many planning “weekday weddings” in 2023.
When it comes to flowers, sustainability is important for couples today. A great tip for this is to choose in-season flowers, which helps with both availability and cost. Other couples of late are opting for dried flowers that can be reused after the event, and some are even designing their own floral pieces. For those of us who still need the talents of the local florist, large, statement arrangements with clean lines and neutral shades are top of the trend. Sustainability is also on couples’ minds when it comes to wedding favors, and they’re choosing edible and alive (think seeds or plants) or charitable gifts.
Arguably topping the wedding reinvention is in the entertainment. Weddings in the coming season will delight guests in all new ways with live painters, custom music performers, fire shows, fireworks, karaoke, ice cream carts, or even helicopter rides crowning the celebration!
Brides, as you set out to make all these important decisions for your special day, we invite you to do as the designers have done—have fun, be intentional, and make choices that will keep you smiling during your wedding celebration and leave you with lots of happy memories to enjoy for the rest of your lives. From Amelia Island Weddings Magazine, congratulations!
