Men Choose Laser Hair Removal For men tired of the scruffy look, laser hair removal is a growing trend. Men account for about 17 percent of the 1.1 million laser hair removal procedures performed in the United States in 2012, a growth of 5 percent from the previous year, the ASPS reported. For men, popular areas to treat include the front and back of the neck, the chest, abs, and back. Many of these areas are inconvenient to shave, and waxing is painful and expensive, so more men are choosing permanent hair reduction with laser hair removal. The procedure is identical for both
men and women. A medical laser targets hair while it’s in the growth phase, preventing the follicle from producing additional hair. Because not all hair is in the same point of the cycle at any given time, multiple treatments are needed to successfully treat the maximum number of hairs. As the trend grows nationally, Amerejuve welcomes anyone ready to become an ‘AmereDude’ and give up the hassle of shaving unwanted hair. To schedule a free consultation to see if you’re a good candidate for laser hair removal, call (713) 960-6262. ■

Experienced, Compassionate Service in Sugar Land
Jennifer Buchtien, Lauren Stoppelbein, and Cindy Hernandez serve Sugar Land.
Amerejuve’s Sugar Land clinic combines a strong team with a positive attitude to serve the Sugar Land area. The tight-knit team of manager Lauren Stoppelbein and professional technicians Cindy Hernandez and Jennifer Buchtien and Amerefit nutritionist Saba Umar works to serve clients and achieve their goals. Stoppelbein has been in the aesthetic industry for 5 years, much of that involved in cosmetic surgery. As Amerejuve offers both cosmetic surgery and medspa services, Stoppelbein said she appreciates being able to tailor the best treatments for
each client. “Here, I have something else to offer for someone who may not be ready for surgery,” she said. “I have more tools in my belt working in the medspa. … Now I have more to offer.” Hernandez, who’s been in the aesthetic industry for seven years and at Amerejuve for three, said she had a similar experience when she transitioned from working at a smaller medspa to working at Amerejuve, which has 10 locations and a broad menu of services. While she performed microdermabrasion almost

Amerejuve ‘Undercover’ Corporate Leaders Seek to Engage Clients
COO Vincent Chitolie, Amerejuve client Leslie Pilibosian, Galleria Manager Graciela Vargas, Director of Technology David Panthagani, and Vice President of Marketing Tim Brinkley, visit the Galleria Clinic.
Fit Focus
Members of the Amerejuve corporate team are getting an inside look at Amerejuve’s clinics, reaching out to clients and participating in the day-to-day activities of the medspa. The initiative is similar to the CBS television show Undercover Boss, but without the undercover part. The corporate team hopes to gain new knowledge and insight on the clinic-level to both maintain and further improve the medspa’s excellent treatments and customer experiences, continuing Amerejuve’s constant pursuit of excellence. The team also plans to implement best practices across all clinics to ensure every client has a rewarding experience. Vincent Chitolie, Amerejuve’s Chief Operating Officer, is heading the initiative and working out of the Clear Lake clinic instead of the central corporate office.

Food Sensitivity Undermines Healthy Eating Choices
What Healthy Foods Could You Be Sensitive To? Eating healthy is the first key to losing weight – but, when it comes to individual bodies, not all healthy foods are created equal. Even the healthiest of healthy foods can cause digestive problems and weight gain for a person with sensitivity to that food. When a food sensitivity is present, the body reacts negatively to certain foods and substances, though it’s not technically allergic to them. Symptoms can range
from chronic constipation and weight gain to fatigue, joint pains, and stomach cramps, said Amerefit Wellness Coach Candy Benoit. When she sees these signs, Benoit recommends an Antigen Leukocyte Cellular Antibody Test, or the ALCAT food sensitivity test, an important step at the start of the Amerefit weight loss program. “I often present the ALCAT test as
the ‘missing link’ to my patients. Some patients come in doing everything ‘right’ (eating healthy, exercising, etc.), but still have problems losing the weight,” she said. “Often times, we run the ALCAT and find out they are sensitive to one or more of the foods they are eating on a daily basis. Once we remove this from the diet, they are able to lose the weight and feel better than they have in years.”

exclusively at her previous medspa, now she’s become trained and experienced in every Amerejuve service. “I love making other people feel great,” she said, and she fondly remembers specific clients she’s been able to help, such as a woman whose acne and skin dramatically improved after a chemical peel that Hernandez recommended. “I truly believe that when a person looks good, they feel good,” Stoppelbein said. “It changes everything about them. When they feel their best, they can do their best. … That is why I love what we do in our industry.” Stoppelbein said that, as a woman of Persian background, she enjoys discussing her success with laser hair removal with clients. “They have someone who can relate to being a hairy person,” she said with a laugh. “I absolutely love [laser hair removal]. I wouldn’t change it.” Buchtien has been at the medspa for two years, and before that was a cosmetologist, and she sees the two as both being about helping people look and feel their best. She says the Sugar Land team is the best part of the job as they work together to customize and maximize each client’s experience. Another big part of her job is educating clients, she said. “It goes beyond coming in and getting a treatment,” she said. She takes the time to listen to clients, educate them about the procedures and

The Gentleman’s Guide to Amerejuve More Men are Enjoying the Benefits of Medspa Services
These “Maximum Frown” pictures show how Botox prevents the muscles that create frown lines from contracting, reducing both the appearance and formation of wrinkles.
Don’t let the pink fool you – Amerejuve’s services are equally effective, and desirable, for men and women. Both genders struggle with unwanted hair, unwanted weight gain, and unwanted signs of aging. How can men benefit from all that Amerejuve has to offer? Read on to find out the benefits of being an ‘AmereDude’! Tangle Tamer A manly beard is one thing, but an itchy, scratch neck that’s difficult to shave is quite another. Laser hair removal can be performed on nearly any area of the body, including the neck, chest, abs, back, and unibrow. Hair growth works the same way for both genders, where the hair goes through growth, shed, and rest periods, so men too can benefit from the time and cost savings of laser hair removal and say goodbye to razor burn forever.
‘Brotox’ Research indicates that more men than ever are getting injections such as Botox and Dysport to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, and fillers can take care of the deep creases that form around the mouth and nose. These wrinkles and depressions gather shadow and age the face. A more youthful look can build confidence and give a more relaxed appearance. Judicious injections placed in the perfect areas for your facial structure can create amazing, and natural-looking, results. Beer Belly Buster It’s easy for a few inches of flab to creep up as we age. Amerejuve offers Coolsculpting and other body contouring services to slim trouble areas that diet and exercise have difficulty touching, including the midsection and love handles.

The Proper Shave The Clean SHAVE 1. Shower or use pre-shave oil to soften and prepare the skin for the shave. 2. Lather, then shave with short strokes in the same direction as the hair growth. Pay attention to change direction when the hair does (often on the neck or the lower chin). 3. If desired, lather again and shave across the grain (not against!). 4. Splash with cold water to soothe the skin and tight your pores back up.
The Beard 1. If you have a round face, leave more hair on the chin and less on cheeks to create length. For an oblong or oval face, trim close on the chin and leave a little more on the cheeks. 2. Trim with a No. 1 guard and taper the hair starting immediately above the Adam’s apple. 3. Trim the top of the cheeks parallel to the jaw line. 4. Comb down the mustache and trim any hairs that come over the lip.

For the test, a lab will draw blood. Fasting is not needed prior to the test, so the process usually takes about 15 minutes, and results are available after 10-14 business days. The test checks for cellular responses to many different substances, including foods, chemicals, food additives, food coloring, and molds. The ALCAT test indicates what substances the body reacts to, though what that reaction looks like in terms of symptoms will vary from individual to individual. “Once we know what they are intolerant to, we prepare the meal plan based off of these results. This is where we see reductions in their symptoms as well as their weight,” said Benoit. One study published in the Middle East Journal of Family Medicine found that obese individuals who struggled to lose weight on a low-calorie diet alone saw statistically significant success when they
“People often think just because this food is ‘healthy’ that it will make them healthy, but if their immune system does not like it, then that food is not healthy for them.” Candy Benoit Amerefit Wellness Coach followed a diet that took into account their ALCAT food sensitivity results. In the study, participants on the ALCAT diet dropped a mean average of 9.5 percent in total body fat percentage. Many clients are surprised to learn that foods normally considered healthy, such as wheat, milk, certain fruits and vegetables, and even seasonings, can be the source of many of their dietary issues. “People often think just because this food is ‘healthy’ that it will make them

GYNECOMASTIA, from Page 5 If the condition does not fade on its own, medication or surgery may be needed to correct the appearance of the chest. Generally, medication that blocks estrogen will be prescribed, or the patient can opt to undergo a breast reduction surgery. While gynecomastia is not a dangerous condition, any changes in the breasts (for men and women) should be monitored carefully. Though breast cancer is rare in men, it can cause enlargement of the breast. Symptoms to watch out for include a firm lump in the breast, dark discharge from the nipple, a sudden change in the size or tenderness of the breast, or an ulcer or sore over the breast. Any changes in breast tissue should be checked out by a doctor to discover the underlying cause and determine whether the changes are the sign of a more serious issue. Smoothing Over Man Troubles
My boyfriend likes to skip days shaving to go for that “stubbly” look, but he doesn’t pull it off (and I feel like I’m kissing a sanding machine). What should I do? Is he really going for the stubbly look? Because I suspect maybe he just doesn’t like shaving, and that manly stubble is just a convenient excuse. If he’s fed up with shaving, you should take Roxy him for a laser hair removal consultation. Yes, Baldwin men can get it and yes, it works on the face! Even if he doesn’t want the hair on his chin and face permanently reduced, he could get it on the itchy hair on his neck and under his jaw, so then at least all that’s left to shave is the easy part. With spring finally here, I want to take some couple pictures with my guy, but he hates being photographed! How can I get him to look like he’s enjoying himself ? Girl, I know exactly what you are talking about. Mr. Baldwin isn’t very camera shy, but I dated my share of photo-phobes. First, find a great photographer who will help both of you feel relaxed. Try to think of cute things you can do, not just cute poses, and you’ll both look more natural and relaxed. Ok, it may seem silly, but try blowing bubbles, making faces, or playing a lawn game. Second, get him to Amerejuve! With an awesome facial, he’ll feel and look refreshed, and he’ll want to show off that healthy skin. Schedule his appointment 1-2 days before the shoot and reap the rewards! Have a question for Roxy? Ask her! editor@amerejuve.com
