Foreword This catalog is issued in association with the seventh edition of Six Degrees: an exhibition of work by students graduating this year from the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). Each student featured in here has chosen the work to be included and this selection has been vetted by a member of the faculty. In the foreword to last yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s catalog, I closed by noting the pride we have in our graduating students. This pride in our soon-to-be alumni pervades CAAD as they reach the end of their final academic year. The transformation we have witnessed is extraordinary. Our students have been on quite a journey that involved adapting to radically different ways of learning and thinking. Along the way, they acquired knowledge, skills, and sensibilities and honed these through application and critical feedback; they have built strong bonds of friendship. Behind the body of work in this catalog lies an unseen but nonetheless vital presence. My faculty colleagues engage in extended conversations with students about their intentions and how these intentions are manifested. The best of them relentlessly challenge, inspire, and push their students. These interactions

leave a lasting impression and we must recognize and honor this contribution. My thanks to all who played a role in putting this catalog and exhibition together. This year, the three CAAD student organizations—led by Ibrahim Ibrahim, Rabeeya Abduljabbar, and Amer Madhoun—have taken on a key role in planning for and organizing the show. The faculty advisers to these organizations— Faysal Tabbarah, Riem Ibrahim, and Juan Roldan—along with Associate Dean Zinka Bejtic devoted considerable time to this initiative. Savio Creado, Assistant to the Dean, provided valuable support. We are once again fortunate this year that the Dubai Design District (d3) is hosting the show. Our partnership with this prestigious design organization helps promote local talent in general and our students’ accomplishments in particular. In closing, congratulations to our graduating students. I look forward to hearing of your successes in the future as leaders in the design and allied professions.

If you dont understand the problem by skepticism, youre doomed.
