Last year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers participated in the National River Cleanup Program™ and picked up more than 1.2 million pounds of trash from 76,000 miles of rivers. In 2009, we began providing organizers with National River Cleanup Kits that contained sponsor-branded trash bags, T-shirts and snacks. We also conducted more media outreach than ever before, resulting in increased local media coverage, increased participation in cleanups and additional visibility for our work.
