60th Lumberjack World Championships Hello! Welcome to the 60th Lumberjack World Championships (LWC) and to historic Lumberjack Bowl! It’s a big year for the LWC and we have plenty of fun in store for you, your friends, and family. This year, the LWC welcomes over 120 competitors from around the globe to beautiful Hayward, WI, for a three-day celebration of timber sports. Athletes will compete for a purse of over $68,000 in 24 events, including logrolling, boom running, sawing, chopping, axe throwing, and speed climbing. Each day’s competition culminates with the Team Relay – choose your team and cheer them on! We’re unveiling some new and exciting changes to the LWC experience like the brand spanking new Lumberjack Shop, directly behind the main bleachers. We’re also excited to be collaborating with Go Live Sports Cast to share the 60th Lumberjack World Championships with the world on ESPN3. We’ve added new features to the LWC Festival grounds to make your spectator experience even better. Check out the Swinging Axe Beer Garden and try a Swinging Axe craft pilsner — the official beer of the LWC — taste new foods, pick up a t-shirt in the Lumberjack Shop, visit a vendor, or try your hand (or feet!) at logrolling. We’d like to extend a hearty thank you to our amazing sponsors and dedicated LWC volunteer crew – without these fine folks, LWC would not be possible. So sit back, relax, and get ready for some fierce, international competition wrapped up in good, old, north woods fun! #YoHo

Hot Saw
A single sawyer using a single-cylinder, single-motor power saw makes three vertical cuts—down, up and down— through a 20-inch diameter white pine log. This one-man contest is strictly against time. Chain saws may be warmed up prior to the contest, but must be turned off before the contest begins. Neither self-starting nor impulse-type push button starters nor twin motors are allowed. A starter gives the countdown and on the signal “GO” competitors start their saws and make three cuts. The contest ends when the third slice is severed. All cuts must be completed.

Men’s Logrolling
A referee starts each match where birlers step off a dock onto a floating log, grasping pike poles held by attendants for balance. As they push off from the dock, the referee instructs the birlers to steady the log. When he is certain both birlers have equal control, he says, “Throw your poles.” The match is on and continues to a fall or to an expiration of the time limit set for each log. When the time limit is reached, the same match continues onto the next smaller log. In the semi-finals and the finals, the contest is decided by the best three out of five falls. Men start on 15-inch logs.

Relay Race
In this timed event, there are two teams, each consisting of a 60-ft. climber, two boom runners (one male and one female), an underhand chopper, a woman’s single buck sawyer and a standing block chopper. The climber must climb and descend a 60-foot pole. When his feet touch the pad the male boom runner, stationed on the chopping dock, runs the logs to the logrolling dock. Then the female boom runner runs the logs over to the chopping dock. When she touches, the underhand chopper cuts through a 12-inch log. When the log drops the single buck commences, and the standing block chop is the event anchor.
