Bondi Village PROJECT: LOCATION:

MASTERS - UNSW - THESIS BONDI BEACH

How will a biophilic prototype foster resilience in the neighbourhood and improve the life in Bondi? #OpenDOOR Wayside chapel is a noble organization which aims at reducing the difference between normal and vulnerable people. With a view to accomplish that goal, the organization runs several programs to help improve the life of people approaching Wayside. One such program is ‘Rooftop Gardening’ which has had a major effect on people’s lives and also resulted in an improvement of many. The idea is to elaborate and enhance this program through biophilic approach to improve the life in Bondi and foster resilience in the neighbourhood. Bondi Village consists of a community centre and vertical farms wherein different techniques of indoor and organic farming are carried out. This program will help foster the betterment of the society encouraging people to learn about the techniques to grow food and use these skills elsewhere and become self-efficient. The design follows an ‘Open Door’ concept with an inviting architecture to encourage interaction between different communities in the neighbourhood and to know Wayside better.

Kooloora Community Center PROJECT: LOCATION:

MASTERS - UNSW - DESIGN STUDIO KOOLOORA, SYDNEY

This design studio project explores the potential of large housing estates to contribute in the creation of integrated communities. The studio project uses the site of the Kooloora CommunityCentre (KCC), located within a large social housing estate in Malabar, to test the possibilities of designing a community building that serves and advances the social and cultural life in the area. The project builds on the real life needs of the KCC to redevelop the site and expand the services they provide. Currently, the KCC serves its diverse community by running a series of programs that include playgroups and children’s vocational care as well as seniors and community gardening programs. Services include the Legal Centre outreach program , counceling and public health assistance amongst others. The aim was to investigate and interconnect the social and cultural contexts through architecture and design production. The exploration of cultural diversity’s impact on the city underpins the broad pedagogical objectives of the course and provide a range of additional childcare, social and community services.

Martin Place Hybrid PROJECT: LOCATION:

MASTERS - UNSW - DESIGN STUDIO MARTIN PLACE, SYDNEY

This design studio project explores the potential of designing a mixed use high rise which accomodates commercial, retail and cultural spaces along with affordable housing. It also includes a space for public to access the subway underground. The location of the site is in Martin Place which is also known as “Sydney’s Civic Heart”. Martin Place is focussed on commercial enterprise and attracts workers and visitors as they criss-cross the city or sit down and enjoy lunch during their breaks. The design has evolved to provide the busy public with plaza and commercial spaces stacked up with vertical gardens at various levels which is the main feature of the hybrid tower. The vertical garden creates a transparency between the busy commercial life and natural environment. The occupants get a view of green and natural space. The section of the tower explains how the privacy of the hybrid tower increases as you move upwards. This design studio also focuses on optimal building performance in sustainability and habitability. The design includes advanced techniques that help minimize the environmental footprint of complex buildings. A healthy, functional and aesthetic environment based on psychological and cultural perceptions of the occupants form the complimentary background of this hybrid tower.

Azaiba Palace PROJECT: LOCATION:

CORDUFF OMAN ARCHITECTS AZAIBA, OMAN

The Azaiba Palace is a palace for a Royal family from Qatar. We were the architectural consultants for the project. This project constituted one main mansion, eight guest villa, one ancillary block for security accomodation, and seven security post. I was appointed as a site architect inorder to check the construction was according to method statement mentioned in the contract. I have gained solid all-round experience working on site for many months conducting site inspections and making progress reports, which gave me a basic knowledge about relevant structural, electrical, mechanical and fire fighting, prevention and protection drawings and documents. Studied construction methodology executing the work in accordance with above parameter. Monitoring construction program to achieve time schedule. Keeping client’s satisfaction on top priority within the parameter of drawings, specifications and tender documents.

Villa HH PROJECT: LOCATION:

CORDUFF OMAN ARCHITECTS BAUSHER, MUSCAT

This is one of the first few projects I handled individually during its design and planning stage. The project is a mansion for an elite Client in Muscat. The architectural style is a blend of contemporary and Omani architecture with emphasis on details. The planning of the mansion was done in a shape of an arc looking over the countours with respect to the surrounding and thus set the villa a class apart from the ones that sit beside.

Qatar Chamber PROJECT: LOCATION:

CORDUFF OMAN ARCHITECTS QATAR

The Qatar Chamber is a commercial complex located in the heart of the city which follows a traditional Qatari urban grain street pattern towards the roads and neighbours i.e minimum setback distance as well as extend the traditional street pattern through the site between the buildings. This project gave me an opportunity to work with my seniors and develop a design for a design competition. The job mainly included making a 3D model on Revit and designing the facade for the project. Inspiration for the elevation of this project came from the tradition of the multi-patterned mashribiya. The analogue of one overall mashribiya that is made up of many complementary and harmonios mashribiya patterns felt a perfect fit for understanding the aesthetic of the Qatar Chamber.

Oman Museum Across Ages PROJECT: LOCATION:

CORDUFF OMAN ARCHITECTS / COX ARCHITECTURE OMAN, NIZWA

The Oman Across Ages Museum is to tell the story of Oman from prehistory to the present day, with a focus on the period of Renaissance since 1970, during which Oman has experienced a sustained period of development and transformation under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The project aims to present the story of Oman’s history, growth and development and offer an insight into the Oman of tomorrow through a comprehensive, layered narrative. The concept fundamentally works with the unique landscape to craft a museum bred out of the earth of Oman. It harmonises the landscape with the stories of human enlightenment and achievement. This project gave me an opportunity to work with COX Architects. The job included drafting detail drawings, documentation, Minitry approvals and material selection. OMAA gave me a good exposure towards modern dynamic architecture.

This is one of my personal project I have handled individually uptil its execution. The project is a cottage at a hill station that includes one BHK apartment, 4 studio rooms, an activity room and servant’s room. This project was simple as it had to be done within a budget but gave a me an all round experience in designing and executing the work. The work while executing included selecting materials, site inpection, waste water and storm water drainage planning and sorting out transportation of all the materials.

Model Making PROJECT:

MASTERS - UNSW - DESIGN STUDIO

Enrolled into an elective called Contemporary Fabrication during my masters which helped me explore various processes of making design models. As a critical part of the design process the model expresses ideas and concepts in three dimensions with concern for materials, lighting, space and, nowadays, interactivity; in other words the model literally presents all of the components of a finished architecture. Different techniques and modes of model making were introduced during my course like 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling, wooden fabrication, rapid prototyping and several hand-made processes were also employed (hot-wire cutting blue foam, casting, sheet metal folding). I was trained to use and have direct access to all of these machines.
