You weren’t supposed to be mine forever, but in a perfect world you were. You were supposed to come home in December, something I thought for sure.

As I grew older people explained all the things that you couldn't make clear. As I grew older I realized that you never meant to disappear.

You were supposed to be happy, and for that I can’t be selfish. You were supposed to go away, and for all the memories, I cherished.

You weren’t supposed to stay here, you were supposed to chase your dream. You weren’t supposed to stay here, you were supposed to see what I’ve never seen.

I’ll be ok here, but not as ok as I may seem.

Of all the nights I sat in bed and stayed up late to pray, I never once said a prayer that wished that you would stay.
