This PORTFOLIO shows my work that I had done during my academic journey and personal research. The work ranges from Architectural Projects, Furniture Design, Fashion Design, and some experimental work on parametric and 3d modeling exploration.

Dear Sir or Madam, With this letter, I wish to state my interest and submit my application for a position as Architectural Assistant. I have always had a passion for Architecture. Therefore, it is not surprising that I finished my Diploma studies in Architecture with Distinction. I grew up seeing Oscar Niemeyer projects in Algiers and Constantine, who inspired my father and me a great deal. Friends and colleagues all testify to the fact that I have an obsession with geometry and complex structures; therefore, I was extremely intrigued by the work of Zaha Hadid. Unfortunately, my tutors during my study did not have the skills to teach me these advanced avant-garde ideas, and they didn›t allow me to explore this complex, exuberant, nonorthodox, non-standard formal repertoire. However, architecture and urbanism should always be about refreshing ideas and paradigms, like Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once said: «Architecture is the will of an epoch translated into space.»I stubbornly believe that the production of architectural discourse should be similar to «haute couture»; the architecture paradigm should reflect our epoch, That is what Zaha Hadid excels, and her firm continues to do so. During my academic journey, I had the opportunity to gain skills related to computer software and architectural visualization, and I became fascinated by the paradigm of digital realm. For my undergraduate thesis at “Ecole Polytechnique d architecture et urbanism” of Algiers, I made energy rehabilitation of Our School in collaboration with «Technische Universitat Berlin,» involving the concepts of innovation, performance and energy efficiency. In fall 2015, I made a brief journey (one semester abroad) at DIA (Dessau International Architecture) at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany where I was a student of Liss C Werner we discussed issues related to computational design, Kinetics structures, and Cybernetics. Last year I took two seminars on digital fabrication, the first semester we created three projects: the first one called surface systems subtractive fabrication+casting: the project deals with the idea of how do we utilize digital fabrication techniques for examining & generating complex patterns and forms found in nature or geometric systems, to engage contemporary design strategies for Architecture and design and customized, performative assemblies. The second project called component systems: The project objective is to move from simple “hand-craft,” to fully calibrated [parametric] physical-digital systems, where both material properties and geometric constraints are considered and developed simultaneously in digital + physical models and full-scale component assemblies. The third project called: soft surfaces, I explored different triply periodic minimal surfaces using Rhino/Grasshopper/Millipede. The second seminar called making drawings. While the seminar focused primarily on analog drawing machines and devices, the final project incorporated active, motor-driven drawing movement controlled by Arduino.” This project ended up with an exhibition at Big Omaha. Last year I took a workshop «fibrous agency » with one of Zaha Hadid staff in Florence. Zaha Hadid is very dear to my heart, I have been following her work since my childhood, and I am willing to become Zaha Hadid staff and continue her legacy. Currently, I am developing research on shell structures at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, USA. I am studying basalt fiber reinforced polymers (BFRP), and weaving technique using CNC machine, I am planning to submit my research paper for Acadia conference. I want to work on International architecture competitions with the focus of North Africa with Zaha Hadid team especially Shajay Bhooshan. 01 ECO-EDUC ECO-LOGIC

The intervention area in Algiers where the Réghaïa Lake is an important value in the Nature Network and fields in the Metropolis.

On the coastline east Algiers, the wetland of Lake Réghaia is an important ecological site that has a universal dimension (RAMSAR protection) where faunal, floral habitat is vital for maintaining the biodiversity of the area. These values are not benefiting the local population. We can observe: The absence of a host structure (activities) There is no relationship between the two sides, and the lack of practical connection linking the three sites natural elements: agricultural land, sea and the lake. Our proposal is a dynamic link between the different natural elements through four actions: Welcome, Open, Connect,and Unite.

Respect for the environment: Ecological discovery path of faunal and floral life are built to allow people to become conscious of this wealth. Density neighborhood housing 1 / 13ha Use of sustainable materials: solid wood furniture of local species. The biodiversity of the lake is preserved by fluid transport (boats, bicycles, pedestrians). Social life quality: Valuing picnic areas and promoting meetings of the local population with visitors. Valuing public spaces: Mix of fun and educational activities organized around the lake A gateway or a bridge is equipped to foster links between both banks of the lake. Proposal walks on the lake, with non-polluting boats like pedal boats. A gazebo and a tower will welcome visitors and offer a panoramic view of the lake and its environment. Architectural quality: The design of discovery walks of local faunal life with thematic gardens and recreational areas in the form of a labyrinth. Accommodation is provided by sustainable architecture, recovery containers covered with wood panels. Installation of a tower at the highest point of the reserve that serves as a guide for users.

02 PUBLIC LIBRARY IN THE CASBAH

For this project, I synthesized the data through the analysis of the Urban condition of the site (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE ), and I realized that the site has great potential, times, and balances to manage complexity. The project allows a smooth transition between the old Ottoman fabric (traditional) and the modern fabric (colonial French Urban Fabric). The idea is not to make a tabula rasa of the past and create a unit with the fabric (the environment). The short time the project is part of the movement of society in the city, because the site is constantly changing, the project will be dynamic, so you feel the movement in the project through the dynamic form generated by 3 different axes. The path is not linear, but a sinuous one inspired by the alleys of the Casbah. The facade is not straight consisting of nooks and corners for visual games and varied practices of multiple spaces. The faรงade and the soil have the same treatment. It gives continuity and the impression that the building starts from the ground to reach the sky (this concept will be realized by the tape on the front of the facade).

03 PARC IN

The articulation between the various scales and paradoxes of the site in a project.

We found that our property is governed by several paradoxes and contradictions. The next project will play an important role of articulation. With its pivotal position between the centrality of the atmosphere, and the neighborhood, it will serve one without neglecting the other. Its strategic position with the park will strongly influence its direction; we must think of how visitors will be benefited by the experience and how to make them participate in the project.

04 GRADUATION PROJECT

Part of the School was designed by Oscar Niemeyer in early 1970. The architect proposed a simple and economical construction with interior courtyards creating the atmosphere of communication and intimacy. it was then annexed by the first extension of the Swiss architect Jean-Jacques Deluze. After 1999, the BEREG a state research department was given the second extension project. STRATEGY OF INTERVENTION: two fundamental operations determine the overall strategy: Energy rehabilitation: it is characterized by a strong desire to reduce power consumption and environmental footprint. - School energy rehabilitation by integrating the concept of energy efficiency. The architectural rehabilitation of different entities: a functional programming and optimization of different spaces will facilitate a rational management of space. This strategy initiates a series of operations aimed at: -Restructuring and restoration of usable spaces and demolition of all prefabricated parts defacing the school. - Streamlining the reception of students and restructuring the various inputs and axis distributions. - Modernizing teaching methods. - Locating and developing new services to the student.

GRIDAL FOLD

The primary objective of this work is to create a seamless freestanding landscape like structure while exploring the potentials of the two different kinds of grids that result from different folding techniques. The intention is to transform the simplest form to a complex system and create a coherent ensemble. Vertical and horizontal folds are the bases of the main rectangular grid while the partial diagonal folds are the secondary elements which give this paper folding its unique 3 dimensional shape. The final form of the folded grid is variable depending on the dimensions of the grid and size of the surface. The more ‘folds and cubes' on one single surface, the more it gets dynamic twisted rotation and naturally takes a more cylindrical tunnel-like shape.

The complexity of work whether it is architectural or artistic generates in the observer some difficulty to understand or analyze it encounters. It arises most often severity and a high degree of organization. I‫‏‬am trying to‫‏‬explore the limits of organic and parametric design that I think it deserves special attention‫‏‬. This study aims to propose a new vision of forms inspired by nature. This view breaks with the traditional aesthetic language and shares the changing meaning of beauty and the increasing need for the renewal of artistic language to create a new theory of form and go beyond the laws related to the principles of Euclidean geometry‫‏‬. Through this work, I wanted to use my knowledge, my creativity and my sense of taste and current trends, to draw sketches of design objects such as tables, chairs,fashion items, and tableware. Nature has indeed ceased to influence the creative artists as well as designers and architects, as it seems to be a source of tremendous inspiration. Nature is undoubtedly the primary source of inspiration in the field of decoration; it provides a multitude of configurations, lines, and patterns.

Genotype- phenotypes

Parametric research This section explores Independent study about parametric design- from one Genotype(The British Museum). I created a series of phenotypes based on a parametric definition created by grasshopper. The research explored different patterns and organization systems by multiplying the input parameters such as the boundaries conditions and the surface typologies. The definition generated endless phenotypes. In this portfolio, I am showing only one example.

Thrust Network Analysis This project explores form finding of shell using Rhino vault and the usage of brick as materafor the construction. Tanaf is the main village of the river basin on the Tanaf Bolong Valley. It is the one with the largest population (almost 4.000) and deepest supply of resources (market, school, hospital). Inside the village, there is a Mosque and a Christian church which are in bad structural conditions. The soil is characterized by a red laterite stone, full of iron, and a sequence of sandbanks and clay banks. There are several laterite’s quarries and the forest of Balmadou which provides the territory with many different tree species such as the Baobab, Palms and Mango.

Casamance airial view The construction materials: The roof design is based on shell form from local masonry, the common aspect of the sacred places is vaulting of the ceiling. It has ceremonial and grand qualities. No ostentatious religious architectural long vertical element from the exterior can be seen such as a minaret or the sanctuary. The furniture inside the building is of wood. The local artists should design the minbar in the mosque, The seating in the church and the synagogue from local Baobab wood. The building is lifted to a certain height to prevent from natural disasters such as floods or tides from the Atlantic Ocean during the rainy season. The stairs are made from Casamance shells and clay combined. Sustainability: Using Brick vault is very economical, and the bricks are quickly assembled. Brick made from clay and shale are some of the most abundant, natural materials on earth. The project aims to use a minimum material with the maximum engagement of the local community, students, and master masons. Brick buildings are energy efficient. Architecture and spatial agency: The ultimate goal of the project is to unify the dwellers from different faiths and beliefs in one entity, so it is planned to be a communion site. The architecture inside is doorless, so no doors are designed interrupting the three faith regions, so it enhances the curiosity among the worshipers to allow them to interact and learn from each other’s faith. The Project also aimed to improve the flexibility at the maximum of the place, so if the community decides to change the worship place to a different location, then it would be an easy task by a simple rotation of the space. The circular central place is conceived to be a place of gathering and discussing between different faith practitioners. Muslims, Christians, Jews can meet there. It houses a bookshelf around the circular perimeter wall, where different faith practitioners come and learn from each other’s faith and culture. The restrooms and the ablution space are located outside, along with the curvature of the wall. There are two main entries to the building; one is a chicane entrance, the other is frontal. Only one ground floor is proposed to keep the budget at a minimum. New calligraphy of a plan will be introduced by Curves to accentuate the curvilinearity of the project; it is an invitation from the outside to the inside of the building by paintings on the floor.

The workshop was divided into two complementary parts. In the first part of the workshop, we looked at field conditions and how to generate or design such fields that can help structure a possible urban condition. The second part of the workshop was built upon the first phase. Students will be required to select one archetype (high rise tower) generated in the first part, which will be used as a study model to develop a detailed facade study. In the first part of the workshop, we will be exploring dynamic systems, geometric systems, and network theories to generate and design an abstract field condition. A field builds complexity upon its capacity to integrate modularity, gradients, and differentiation within a highly legible and coherent system. The system builds up complexity based on a series of single redundant component (rule) operations. The degrees of change within the system will be based on a simple set of rules (environmental) that would drive parametric versioning and typological differentiation. Simple operations that would span variations from an initial state will give rise to high level of complexity. The goal of this exercise in its initial phase is to create a vibrant and diversified intelligible urban field that can be later on be subjected to local interventions and zoom in to enhance each design locally. The second part will be using a mixed workflow across main platforms. – Processing (Eclipse – IDE) for agent-based systems, Rhino-Grasshopper will address strategic utilization of structurally and environmentally generated morphologies, to create coherent and highly differentiated fibrous tower exo-skeletons. This class ended with an exhibition at Big Omaha. I fabricated the drawing machine capable of making linear drawings and controlled numerically by computer using Arduino and three stepper motor, belts, and bearing mechanism that allowed the machine to move in x and y-direction. The device was calibrated and cut using laser cut after being designed in Rhino.
