WORK EXPERINCE: HLW International Architectural Assistant New York, USA Design Team: Involved in numerous projects within the office. Working directly with the Project Jan 2014 – Apr 2015 Architect and Architect Manager and Interior Designer, around the clock, in the design and documentation of the projects. Highlights: Contributed to development of the new SAP towers in New Jersey, Massing development of 80 & 90 Columbus Towers in New Jersey and many other projects. Strategy and Development Team: Worked directly with the strategy development team in order to secure clear communication with important clients. An essential process which ensures smooth translation of client’s ideas and needs into real life solutions. With clear communications, these are then carried on and integrated into Schematic Design. CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTER Awarded Design Excellence Award for Design Studio Project Exhibited at the Cambridge City Hall

Basic architectonics of the project is two forms that compliment one another, while creating an implied public space between them. By separating the two structures, the project was essentially divided into three major programs categories: public, private, and the in between. The form on the left was designed to feel heavy, monolithical and solid, and it would house the more private programs. While the form on the right was introduced to feel open, and light on its feet, which would house the more public programs. The space between the two would be general placement for the public spaces.

Paradox Diagram: Abstract look at the paradox of public space gave way to an unprecedented insight into what forms our public realm. Looking through the scope of city and urbanization, the need for a community centre in Galt was evident.

CHINESE FINGER TRAP SSEF Competition Entry Collaboration: Aaron Cotè

Chinese Finger Trap is a toy which uses tension to create a tight, strong weave of materials; the more its members are pulled, the stronger the membrane becomes. Building off this concept, our structure uses pinned tensile members to achieve a web-like space frame. This frame can be expanded upon by weaving more cables into the existing framework and anchoring them to the ground, existing structures, or a monolithic column. This parasitic structure has a variety of applications: it could be deployed in nature as an observatory walkway, or in cities as a way to make up for lost space. A three-anchor approach allows it to achieve this.

An important part of the assembly. This connection will be connected directly to the steel structure of the building, while additional support is provided to minimize the sway.

Most common connection in the structure. Minimal look allows for the connection to blend well with the structure. Circular steel assembly allows for the connection to be rotated depending on the unique connections. Using only nuts and bolts, and standardized sizes, connection becomes: easily interchangeable, less labor intensive, and allows for quick assembly.

Certain degree of rotation will be tolerated through the connection. The end piece will be welded to the steel monolith.

PITSTOP

An off-the-grid pavilion Designed in Collaboration with climate data

An Oasis in Egypt, designed in collaboration with environmental data. Being one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, Egypt has an annual average of 12 million visitors. The current infrastructure of Egypt does not fully support this number of people, hence there’s a need for a sustainable, off the grid, traditional yet modern architecture to provide a comfortable experience. Pitstop, is a prototype pavilion, where the goal is to have minimum reliance on fossil fuel energy. The hot arid temperature calls for maximum shading and cool air.

Section: Traditional Middle-Eastern windcatchers. By aligning the intake grill to the North West (at this site, North West gets the most breezes) , the windcatcher catches the air and directs it through the tower and onto

the ground floor. The hot air is then turned into cool air when it is blown over the body of water. This self-sustaining natural process repeats all year round and cools the air inside the pit stop.

Faiyum

Egypt

Wind Wheel Climate consultant’s data for Faiyum, Egypt introduced an essential need for cool air. Part of the strategy behind the location of the structure was finding natural water. Lake Qaroun, a small lake near Cairo, provided that. A small opening into the lake channels water underneath the building’s wind catcher. Temperature range

GREEN SLOPES

Multi-housing in Cambridge Collaboration: Julia Nakanishi, Yu-Chu Su, Karam Hunjan

The challenge to the group was to convert a junk space in Cambridge into a housing complex, which was capable of providing shelter for 100 people, parking and a communal hub. The team began with a typical modern courtyard complex, which would occupy most of the site. Each end of the building was then opened up, to introduce an open feeling to the courtyards. After each wing was raised or lowered depending on its relation to the sun in order for it to allow more light in. The response to this challenge was to create a complex, which would in essence be looking inward onto itself. Community goal was to provide a green space for the residence to enjoy.

Modern Lofts; Mutli story housing unit in Toronto’s St.Clair Street

The need for a fresh urban building type drove the core of this project. Located on the south side of St.Clair, the challenge was to take advantage of its close proximity to public transport and already existing biking infrastructure. As a result, significant thought was given to bicycle storage. Being close to street, meant developing a dual entrance for both commercial use and private use.

HLW is an international architecture, engineering, and design consultancy, headquartered in New York City, with offices in New Jersey, Los Angeles, London and Shanghai. It is one of the oldest surviving AE firms architectural engineering firms in the United States, tracing its beginnings to 1885 in New York. During my 4 months coop I was involved in a verity of projects including Google’s headquarters in New York City, 70 and 50 Columbus Street Towers, 1285 Avenue of the Americas among many. I was involved in schematic design for office towers and interiors, design development, tending drawings for 70 and 50 Columbus Street Towers, and construction details for various projects. My breadth of work also involved in creation of various renders made in varying styles, along with presentation diagrams. 44
