LOCI REBUILT Urban Void, Chott El Krekna
PROJECT: Urban Parc LOCATION: Tunisia, Sfax DATE: November 2019 DIRECTOR: Mrs. Monia Hakima
The following work focuses primarily on a place in loss of signification in its own specific context. Our proposition seeks to make use of its potential as an "urban void" in order to produce an architecture that derives its meaning from the characteristic qualities of the environment in which it is located. Our reflection begins with the intent of unveiling the genius of "Chott El Krekna" by confronting its different visible and invisible strata to a phenomenological reasoning thread. This approach allows us to place man at the center of the equation and to originate a proposition that is coherent with the context of the study. With this in mind, the question of rebuilding this place in today’s city, reveals an opportunity to meet the current needs of the inhabitants by to designing free, open and thoughtful spaces, essentially related to their social practices, their cultures and experiences.

SITUATION
The former fishing harbor of Sfax, once a major component of the city and its history, has fallen into uncertainty and oblivion. Today, it faces a plurality of spatial and social disruptions within its context. Thus, our intervention seeks to reconnect this place with its various urban, social and historical components in order to remedy this loss of meaning and restore its lost bond with the users.
CONCEPT
REMOVING OBSTACLES • Remove perceptual limits in front of historic landmarks. • Rethink the relationship to the surrounding buildings
6
BUILDING THE VOID • Transform the esplanade from a boundary to a continuity with the sea. • Keep the "Urban void" and respect its public vocation.
PERCEPTUAL CONTINUITY • Stress the perceptual continuity with the sea. • Restore the relationship of the inhabitants with the sea.

BIOPHILIA Multi-Generational Center
PROJECT: Multi-Generational Center LOCATION: Tunis, Hay el khadra DATE: FEBRUARY 2017 DIRECTORS: Mrs. Monia Hakima Mrs. Hedia Ben Nila
The project is located in "Hay El Khadra" also known as "the green neighborhood". This region is well known by the attachment of its habitants to nature and greenery, where they always had the tradition of creating beautiful Private Gardens and green terraces inside the houses. And it is precisely this connexion between people and nature that catches our interest and defines the genius behind this city. For this reason, our main challenge was set on meeting the spiritual needs of the locals who wanted to escape the noisy areas and to seek shelter in nature. To do this, we've chosen an approach that consists not of building the natural environment but of understanding it and recovering its original simplicity. In this sense The existing trees and outdoor spaces marked the starting point of our design process. And this allowed us to push further our interest in the relationship between man, nature and architecture. This trinity gave birth to the manifesto "biophilia" which has a sole purpose of "reuniting people with nature".

MASS PLAN
The multi-generational center of "Hay El Khadra" was designed to welcome people of different age groups into a open environment where they can join and participate in various socio-cultural activities. The lack of public spaces in the district has encouraged us to design such a project that aims facilitate and promote social cohesion through a participative approach. The new center is inherently community-oriented and understands social space as an anthropological ground from which identity and collective relations grow.
CONCEPT
FREE PLAN • The spaces have been treated in a way that promotes both spatial flexibility and the freedom of visitors within the project. • Different circulation possibilities where introduced providing a process of discovery and rediscovery for each space.
16
INDOOR / OUTDOOR • Designing a place where people have the freedom to exist peacefully in nature. • Conceive interior spaces that seek their sense from nature and merges with its different components.
THE VOID • Organizing the courtyards in a way that respects the transition from the intimate sphere to the social sphere for each individual. • Consider a space organization that encourages exchange and social encounters.

URBAN HOTEL Urban Hotel, Lac 2
PROJECT: 5* Urbain Hotel LOCATION: Tunis, Lac 2 DATE: November 2018 DIRECTOR: Mr. Adel Aoua Located in Lac 2 of Tunis this project consist in designing an urban hotel, while respecting the strict 5 star standards. The main goal was to design a building in coherence with the existing balance between the urban landscape and the natural environment that characterize the place. To do so, we opted to organize the spaces around a large green courtyard that allows us to connect the building with the lake and the nearby esplanade. In addition, the ground floor openings were designed to be wide and transparent as much as possible with the intention of resulting in more welcoming and convivial spaces. The upper floors have been preserved for the rooms in a way that allowed us to achieve the best framing of the natural view and the green terraces. They were wrapped with wooden slats to minimize the impact of direct exposure to the sun and to add more character to these spaces. The equally distinctive interiors has been designed with the aim of enhancing the experience within the spaces by using a soft and light palette of materials.

ARC Historic City Harbor
PROJECT: Historic Harbor Renovation LOCATION: Bizerte, Ghar El Melh DATE: November 2019 COMPETITION: RAM AGORA 72H The historic harbor of Ghar El Melh, formerly used for military purposes, plays nowadays a fundamental role in the daily life as well as in the collective memory of the locals. It is quite a challenge to intervene on a place so spectacular individual and powerful by itself. The following proposal emerged from an integrated vision of heritage that considers both the consolidation and enhancement of the existing historic structures while taking advantage of the culture and local specificities of the territory.

VISITORS
The main idea for the project was to integrate the disconnected historical elements through a path that gets the visitor to discover the different fragments of the landscape and to be part of the harbor experience. We are interested in designing a project that strongly fits into the duality between the tourist interest and the attachment of the locals to end up by creating an interface of exchange between the place, the social context and the visitors. The proposed path is defined by three moments: Arrival, encounter and meeting with the landscape. These moments define the experience of being in the place and guarantee the interaction with its different components.

1. ENCOUNTER THE LOCALS
The first part of the harbor shows two damaged buildings that once served as a shelter for the fishermen. We decided to transform them into a fish market and a gastronomic restaurant with a panoramic view of the landscape. To this end, the existing walls were kept with the addition of local brick openings. This made it possible to have well-lit spaces with a passive ventilation system that aligns with our concern for thermal comfort. In regards to the new building's relation with its historic context, the two entities were enveloped by a unifying roof carried by a rhythm of arcades that shows a contemporary reinterpretation of the arsenal's gallery.

2. ENCOUNTER THE HARBOR
For this part of the harbor we decided to redesign the empty square as an extension of the new activities sheltered by the arsenal. Although the arsenal's structural components has been partially restored, the mimetic reproduction of the details composing the walls and vaults was considered meaningless. Therefore, we opted to introduce new soft elements that reflect simplicity of form and proportion in order to highlight the existing historical elements. The glass roof serves as a protection to the arsenal and allows natural light to pass through the interior as much as possible to increase the sense of space, materiality, and memory of the walls. 38

3. ENCOUNTER THE LANDSCAPE
The final part of the proposed harbor renovation leads the visitor to a reunion with the nature. The path is guided by the historic wall which we've opted to restore using white polished cement to contrast with the original stone material. This proposition seeks to respect and to leave evidence of the scars of the passage of time in the harbor. Besides, we decided to add wooden cabins along the shore to offer the possibility to protect against the wind while being able to peacefully contemplate the natural landscape. We imagined this part of the harbor as a spiritual encounter between man, nature and history. And for us, those three components are what truly defines the genius of this place.
