Employee of the Month - Mohit Seth What is your role and describe the type of work you do? I am working as a team leader in our Johnston Press Studio. My job role includes interacting with client (via chat, e-mails and calls), job allocation tasks, scheduling & getting advertisements delivered back on time, right - the very first time. How long have you been with Express KCS? 8 months Best part of my current job: Direct client interaction is the best part

One hidden talent or unusual skill: I am a good cook. Since my childhood I have been very fond of cooking. I wish I had: A few more inches in height. I have a great physique. But, I think it would have been magical if I had a few more inches of height.

I wish I hadn’t: A few inches in width. Though I have a maintained body. But, it would be artistic if I could lose few pounds of unnecessary weight. My next challenge: To lead or become an inherent part of new project development team.

A Systematic Approach to Design Training which includes the structure of the communication. Lastly, aesthetics is also an important area that we are focusing on.
Why do you think we need to have a design training program? Well, a graphic designer needs to be trained on four key aspects. The first is global scientific theories of graphic designing. The second is training on all modern cutting edge training tools like Adobe Platform or Maya 3-D animation software and whatever helps the graphic designer to communicate effectively keeping in view of all aesthetical parameters. The third key aspect is to know and understand the complete sense of brand and aesthetics. I have observed that the most of the institutes that teach the science of graphic designing would directly focus on brand aesthetics. The fourth key aspect is management and empathy. I believe that designers need to be trained on day to day management functions like how to manage a project, how to do priority management, time management and the list goes on. Last but not the least, any designer also needs to know how to communicate his idea verbally. A good designer would have astound belief in his thought and communicates the process with his team members before the project takes shape. So, our particular design training program is based on the four quadrants and we have also taken one more quadrant which is client driven guidelines that includes putting across your ideas effectively so whatever the nature of our client is, we include cultural training aspect as well that helps our designers to adopt a client focussed approach to work effectively on their assigned projects. What domain of learning is being targeted: knowledge, skills or attitude/behavior? I would say, all of these are being

targeted in our program. We have started our program with core level bunch. There are three areas that we are focussing on very keenly. One is overall graphic designing skills, second is typography and paragraph layout which is linked to the scientific theories in graphic design. It has been well accepted by the participants. Third is the aesthetical part and fourth one is brand aspect because brand knowledge is far more deeper as it works under the quadrant of perception. For e.g. how does our mind knowingly or unknowingly gage a larger value to one particular brand.
What are the desired outcomes of this training? The desired training outcome is designer deciding and knowing instantaneously within a span of 2-3 minutes that this is the projected view from the client, this should be the entire theme and objective of the company. So, when our staff gets trained on a common platform across all tiers, they would know the client’s expectations and the kind of outlook and feel I indent to bring into my work today. They will be able to connect back to the scientific theories of graphic designing. And they will be able to collaborate their vision with the entire group and later on if we are able to educate the client as well, the communication fall out becomes very-very robust. How will design training tie to our corporate vision? We all want to be right on the first go. It saves so much of effort and gives delight of first deliverance to the customer. It’s like setting up a perfect process in place.
