Nordlund Stock Farm, LLC 20TH ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE

Welcome, We sure appreciate everyone taking time to study our 2017 sale offering. This is our 43nd year marketing seedstock, and our 20th annual production sale. We can’t thank all of our loyal customers enough over the past years and the new ones to come. Our cattle are bred with the commercial cattleman in mind. They are bred to have an abundance of volume and fleshing ability, muscle shape, structural soundness, eye appeal, and genetics to perform. As you read through the footnotes you will notice how frequently we refer to the maternal strengths of the cow family from which the bull or female comes from. The cow is the backbone of our operation. The bulls are developed on a high roughage ration (worked up to 48mcal) consisting of alfalfa/grass hay, alfalfa haylage, silage, cracked corn and distillers. This ration allows them to show their genetic potential without becoming too overly conditioned. The fall bulls are wintered with their mothers in large pastures, with no creep-feed or bedding. They are weaning in April and run on grass until late fall with minimal supplementation and then started on this ration. We only list the WW and YW ratios on the fall bulls so that they have a fair comparison on how they perform within their contemporary groups, we would be happy to share this information if asked, but we do this because they have lighter weights due to the environment with which they are raised and also being developed slower. Again, we are offering to buy a bag of either Angus Source or Red Angus Certified Tags for each bull purchased. If you purchased tags last year make sure to let us know so we can reimburse you for them. New this year we joined Top Dollar Angus. You will notice the Top Dollar Angus logo, next to qualifying bulls in the catalog. This is a programed designed for commercial producers who purchase genetics that qualify, to receive a premium for their calves due to their superior carcass genetics. The cattle as always are sold with a breeding guarantee. Please feel free to stop in ahead of time to inspect the cattle or give us a call with any questions if we can help with your selection to find the bull or female that best fits your operation. The sale will be broadcasted on DV Auction. As always the cattle will be on display for inspection, but they will sell by videos playing during the auction, so the cattle won’t be coming through a sale ring. Thanks, The Nordlunds Nordlund Stock Farm, LLC 44946 151 st. Ave. Clearbrook, MN 56634 nordlundstockfarm@gvtel.com

RA50k Here is a bull that rang the bells! My Kind was one of the favorites among visitors this summer. The muscle and masculinity he possesses just commands your attention. D37 has a captivating presence with a moderate birth coupled with big time performance which makes this guy a star. The best part is his donor dam X36. X36 is a very complete cow who does an amazing job with an MPPA of 101.8. In his extended pedigree you can go back nine generations before they are under 100 mppa. He is the real deal with big time EPDs. We just sold a maternal sister to Blair’s.Ag, SK for $9,000 on the ND Red Select sale. Flush brother sells as 2.

RA50k Deep Kind is fitting for D28. This capacious individual has always been a star and is from a stellar donor cow, Mimi T110. T110 is a massive bodied cow who raises big time, well round bulls, but her daughters are probably even better. She has a whopping 108.6 mppa. Check out his awesome epds. Look at the Mimi bred heifers we are selling and you will be a believer in this cow family. We recently sold a maternal sister to Harmony Hill, MT for S7,500.

Coming 2 Year Old Clapton will sire low input cattle that are moderate, stout, deep sided, and very easy keeping. The daughters will be fantastic cows, his dam is an ET daughter of Mimi T110.

Should you consider Top Dollar Angus certification for your calves? Absolutely – YES!

If you’ve consistently invested in high-performing Angus or Red Angus genetics, we can make your calf crop stand out from the pack, and give you access to the Top Dollar Angus premium calf-buyer network, regardless of how you market your cattle (local auction, video, or direct trade). Our goal is to bring more demand to your doorstep. The beef cattle business offers both challenges and opportunities, and lower feeder calf prices underscore the need to capture value-added premiums. Every cow-calf producer with high-end genetics and a solid health program wants to sell their cattle above the average market price, which is exactly why Top Dollar Angus was created. Top Dollar Angus is a genetic certification and marketing company focused exclusively on the best Angus and Red Angus-influenced feeder calves in the industry. Qualified calves must contain at least two generations of Angus or Red Angus genetics with growth and carcass traits ranking in the top 25% of their respective breed.

11

Red Angus sires that have a GridMaster Index in the top 25% of the breed or higher meet Top Dollar Angus specifications. Look for the Top Dollar Angus designation on qualifying lots in Seedstock Partners’ sale catalogs! This new program is similar to Certified Angus Beef®, except that Top Dollar Angus does its “branding” in the feeder cattle and calf market. It works by certifying calf crops that meet program requirements on the farm or ranch, enabling these cattle to be marketed using the Top Dollar Angus brand name and logo. Top Dollar Angus feeder calves are eligible to receive a $50 per head premium (sometimes more) over the average market when sold to partner

feedyards. One group of Top Dollar Angus steers sold recently via video auction for $67 per head above the average market for their weight and location. Another group was forward-sold for a $52 per head premium. Yet another single load of Montana steer calves beat the market by $57 per head. Why are so many profit-minded cattle feeders interested in purchasing Top Dollar Angus calves and yearlings? It’s because these cattle perform very well both in the feedyard and on value-based grids. Top Dollar Angus cattle consistently deliver rapid growth and high quality grades. That puts extra dollars in cattle feeders’ pockets, which are passed back to cow-calf producers in the form of premium prices.

Driving the science of better breeding There’s little room for error in the cattle business. Producers need the most advanced information to make smart selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs). EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs that provide: Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced accuracy of EPDs Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits (such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency) The ability to make more rapid progress for traits that are important to you, due to: · more accurate selection · easier identification of genetic outliers · the ability to propagate young animals with confidence earlier in their lives

In fact, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had recorded 7-24 calves, depending on the trait. That’s valuable insight, offered regularly through the breed’s weekly national cattle evaluation at www.angus.org. How do you know if EPDs are genomic-enhanced? Ask your breeder, refer to the registration paper, or look for the AGI GE-EPD logo or those of partnering labs Zoetis (HD50K, i50K) or GeneSeek (GGP-HD, GGP-LD).
