Between 2008 and 2009 the treasurer of the Spanish PP party was Luis Barcenas .He resigned from the party in 2010 . He resigned from the Partido Popular in the wake of an investigation into large scale fraud . It has come to light that he held 22 million euros in a Swiss bank account in 2007 during the time of his job as treasurer. It appears that he kept a balance of around 15 million euros in the account , which was opened in 2005. Now the Deputy Leader of the PP has come out saying that these facts will cause an outrage and a PP spokesperson has also said that more details need to emerge to ensure that justice prevails . Naturally they want to know where the money came from and how it was raised .There is a feeling that at the moment it is tainting the whole party . A lawyer for Barcenas has stated that during the government tax amnesty , Barcenas declared 10 million .However the Tax Department say that they have never received such a declaration .
