On e :
Essential oils from Young Living can be used Aromatically, Topically and Internally. Check the label to see which of those ways it can be used.
T w o :
Avoid getting oils in your eyes, ears and other sensitive areas. If you accidentally do, never use water. Apply carrier oil or milk to the area to reduce redness and discomfort.
T h r  :
Start low and slow. Essential oils are extremely concentrated, and less is more! When diffusing, start with 2-3 drops of one oil and diffuse for 30 minutes & then see how you feel. Continue if you are feeling good. Experiment to see how different oils make you
F o u r :
feel.
Until you are used to oils, dilute! When in doubt, Dilute! Always dilute for children.
F i v e :
Most oils are safe to use during pregnancy, but always let your OBGYN know that you are using oils and check with them if you have concerns.
Wh a t i s a “ c a i e r o i l ” ? :
A carrier oil is a fatty oil such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil or olive oil that can be used to dilute essential oils. Carrier oils ensure that essential oils are applied comfortably & prevent waste due to excessive application. They do not lessen the strength of an oil.
Wh a t i s “ Ne a t ” a p p l i c a t i o n ?
“Neat” is applying an oil topically without carrier oil.
Many oils can be applied neat, but until you know how you respond to a particular oil, apply it diluted 1:1 with a carrier oil and watch for skin redness or discomfort. When in doubt, check the label for dilution recommendations.
Di l u t i o n f o r K i d s :
Oils can be used topically on babies beginning at 6 months of age. For them, the best place to apply is the soles of their feet. Dilute 3x the label recommendations for 6mo-2yrs. For 2yrs-10yrs, dilute 2x the label recommendations, ages 10 through adult, follow the label or use 50% (or 1:1) ratio. Go low and slow, you can always add more carrier, but cannot take away EO’s.

Store them in a cool, dark place away from UV light.. If your oils arrive from shipping and have been in the sun and are warm, allow them to cool before opening the lid.

YES! This is a favorite way to use oils by many oilers. Simply add 1-2 drops of a VITALITY oil to a 20 oz glass or stainless steel cup. Never use plastic or styrofoam. slowly fill with water. You may notice the oil on the top, simply stir or lightly shake to disperse.

The only difference is the labeling. It’s the same exact oil. Due to FDA guidelines, Young Living is required to label an oil for internal use OR topical/aromatic, not all 3.
Wh a t ’ s t h e d e a l w i t hCi t r u s o i l s a n ds u n l i g h t ?
Citrus oils are photosensitive, meaning they amplify the sun’s rays on your skin. If you use a citrus oil topically, avoid long term sun exposure for several hours.
Ca n Ip u t m y o i l s i n a h u m i d i f i e r ?
It is not recommended. Humidifiers and diffusers do not operate in the same way, and the oils can damage your humidifier. It’s best to use a diffuser that also acts as a humidifier, such as the Dew Drop Diffuser.
Ca n Ip u t o i l s i n m y b a t hw a t e r ?
For the most part, yes. Avoid adding oils into a bath with synthetic chemicals such as bubble bath or bath gels. ALWAYS add oils to epsom salts or baking soda prior to putting into the bath water. This will keep them dispersed instead of them floating at the top, use mild oils and start with just a couple drops.
Wh a t i s a “ h o t o i l ” ?
A hot oil is an oil that when applied can cause redness and a burning sensation or irritation to the skin. These are oils that must be diluted. Try a “patch test” first, by applying a drop to an area of skin and observe over 1-2 hours. Examples of hot oils are: Cinnamon, Clove, Lemongrass, Thyme, Oregano, Thieves & Exodus II.
When in doubt - ask! There is no stupid question. Ask your enroller or post in The Essential Community Wellness group.
