“...And I created a big monument for the government. But then I was very disappointed at my profession as an architect, because we are not helping, we are not working for society but we are working for privileged people, rich people, government, developers. They have money and power. Those are invisible. So they hire us to visualize their power and money by making monumental architecture. - Shigeru Ban

Project 01 : Research duration : 1 week STUDENTS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO SMALL GROUPS IN RESPONSE TO THE ANTHROPOMETRICS EXERCISES THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN VARIOUS OF PLACES OF CHOICE. THEY WILL BE UNDERTAKING A SERIES OF ANTHROPOMETRICS EXERCISES THAT MEASURE THE DIMENSIONS OF THEIR BODY WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF COLLEAGUE. THE TASK WILL INVOLVE RESEARCH, DISCUSSIONS, DIALOGUES AND PRESENTATION OF TECHNICAL DATA ON SLEEPING, FOOD PREPARATION AND CLEANSING, ETC. STUDENTS ARE TO DEFINE THE FUNCTIONAL USE OF THE SPACES AND TO EXPLAIN THEIR PERCEPTIONS ON THE QUALITY OF THE SPACES IN THE CONTEXT OF DIMENSION, SIZE, PROPORTION, COLOR, TEXTURE, MATERIALS, INTERNAL FURNITURE FIXTURES, EQUIPMENT AND BUILT-IN ELEMENTS, INTERNAL SPACE FUNCTIONALITY AND THEMATIC AMBIENCE. THEIR RESEARCH SHOULD INCLUDE PRECEDENT STUDIES AND CASE STUDIES ON RELATED QUALITY SPACES.

Project 02 : Shelter By The River duration : 2 weeks TO DESIGN A SHELTER FOR A PERSON, WHICH IS YOU LIVE IN IT, BY THE RIVER, IN RAIN OR SHINE. EXPRESS YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE A GREAT FAN OF AN ARCHITECT/DESIGNER. FROM THE ESSENCE OF YOUR IDOL, INTO A SKELETON AND TRANSFORM INTO FORM WITH AN APPROPRIATE ENVELOPE BY USING CORRUGATED BOARD AS THE MAIN MATERIAL ALONG THE APPROPRIATE JOINTINGS FOR THE SHELTER.

Project 03 : Refuge For Refugee duration : 8 weeks THE REFUGE SHOULD BE DESIGNED WITHIN A COMPACT AREA OF APPROXIMATELY 20sqm AND THE MATERIALS OF THE MAIN STRUCTURE MUST BE MADE OF TIMBER OR TIMBER BASED MATERIAL OR ENGINEERED WOOD MATERIAL. THE UNDERSTANDING OF TIMBER CONSTRUCTION MUST BE SHOWN CLEARLY IN THE PRESENTATION DRAWING AND THE FINAL MODEL. THE INTERIOR SPACE SHOULD CATER FOR 2 PEOPLE (THE SECOND PERSON IS A COMPANION OR A VISITOR). THE SPACES SHOULD ALLOW FOR FLEXIBILITY OF USES WHICH INCLUDES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) RESTING, SLEEPING, STUDY AND PROVIDE PRIVACY AT A CERTAIN DEGREE BASED ON A CHARACTER OF CHOICE FROM VARIOUS SOURCE.

A STUDY TRIP WILL BE ORGANIZED TO EXPOSE THE SITE CONTEXT AND SURROUNDING TO THE STUDENTS.

Lara Croft

PROJECT 3 | REFUGE FOR A REFUGEE

SHE’S ORIGINALLY A BOOKWORM. A VERY SERIOUS UNDERGRAD, WHO SPENDS MOST OF THE TIME IN THE LIBRARY RESEARCHING FOR ARTIFACTS. SHE CAN BE MORE ASSERTIVE WHEN DEFENDING HER WORK AND HER BIG TIME ARCHAEOLOGIST. IN OTHER WORDS, SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS.

Plot SUmmary ON AN EXPEDITION INTO THE DRAGONS TRIANGLE IN JAPAN, LARA AND HER CREW CRASHED ON AN ISLAND AND SEARCH FOR THEIR LOST CREW. BUT WHILE LARA FALLS ASLEEP, HER BEST FRIEND SAM IS TAKEN BY A STRANGER MAN MATHIAS. THROUGHOUT THE STORY, LARA LEARNS NEW SKILLS, TOOK WEAPONS AND WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO BREAK THE SUN QUEEN’S CURSE ALONG WITH MATHIAS’S MEN IN ORDER TO ESCAPE FROM THE LAND. LARA CROFT, SHE’S A SURVIVOR.

Confession FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN HER LIFE, LARA KILLED SOMEONE IN ORDER TO SAVE HER BESTFRIEND SAM. THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN LARA AND ROTH (THE CREW LEADER) BELOW EXPLAINS IT ALL. Lara: “They’re killing people… I don’t know who there are.  I had to kill some of them, I had no choice.” Roth: “Can’t have been easy.” Lara: “It’s scary how easy it was.”

52

LARA HAD HER CONFESSION WITH ROTH

Rock Climbing

PROJECT 3 | REFUGE FOR A REFUGEE

“THE GOAL IS TO REACH THE SUMMIT WITHOUT FALLING.”

Free Soloing IS A SINGLE PERSON CLIMBING WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY PROTECTION WHATSOEVER. IF A FALL OCCURS AND THE CLIMBER IS NOT OVER WATER, THE CLIMBER IS LIKELY TO BE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED.

DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF ROCKS, AT TIMES LARA USE HER CLIMBING AXE AS A TOOL TO SUPPORT HER CLIMBING UP TO THE PEAK. IMAGE COURTESY OF JEREZ FUENTES ON DEVIANTART

Wall Climbing • INDOOR ACTIVITY • USE ARTIFICIAL WALL AND ROCKS • EXPOSE PEOPLE TO CLIMB ON CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT

• HOLDERS ARE IN DIFFERENT COLOR TO DENOTE ROUTE • SOLID ATTACHED TO THE WALL • SAFETY ASSURED

54

• PARTS OF THE ROCK MIGHT FALL OFF SURPRISINGLY • SAFETY NOT ASSURED

FORM AND SPACE

PRIVACY SPACE SHOULD BE ONLY CAN BE ACCESSIBLE BY LARA. GUEST IS IN THE MIDDLE SPACE AS THE ERGONOMICS AND ANTHROPOMETRICS ARE JUST RIGHT FOR A NORMAL PERSON ALTHOUGH THE ENTRANCE MUST ACCESS THROUGH THE ROOTS OF THE SITE. RESEARCH SPACE IS PLACED AT THE LOWEST GROUND LEVEL. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE SPACE IS THAT IT’S A SPACE FULL OF COLLECTION OF HER ARCHAELOGIST FINDINGS.
