that ultimately urges Congress to:

Bloomberg To Push For New Oppressive National Gun Laws

• Implement New York City-style gun control where a background check to get a gun can take up to 6-9 months.

• Ban most semi-automatic firearms.

Bloomberg To Push For New Oppressive National Gun Laws

• Kill gun shows in every state across the nation. The well-funded campaign was launched in January and so far, more than 250,000 anti-gunners have signed an online petition urging Obama and Congress to implement Bloomberg’s freedom grabbing legislation. Bloomberg claims, “It is time for Washington to listen to the 250,000 Americans that have signed our petition and take action: since the Tucson shooting more than 1,300 people have been killed with guns in the United States and that number continues to grow.” Clearly, gun hater Bloomberg is taking full-advantage of a terrible tragedy to push his radical gun control politics. The liberal-backed campaign already has the full support of the Hollywood elite and countless gun hating law makers. Enough is enough. CCRKBA (Citizens For The Right To Keep And Bear Arms) has teamed up with SAF (Second Amendment Foundation) to stop Mayor Bloomberg’s campaign dead in its tracks.

ALERT: Anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg just launched a nation-wide anti-gun campaign. We are launching a counter-assault and fighting back with a pro-gun campaign of our own!

We are standing up and fighting back. We will be implementing an urgent, time sensitive pro-gun campaign of our own called “Help Keep Us On The Road.” We will have a truck featuring a billboard that says “2,191 Americans Use Guns Every Day In Self-Defense.” With your help, our truck will follow Bloomberg’s truck and attack Bloomberg’s lies in every major city in America. We need to raise $16,000 each and every week to compete with Bloomberg’s assault on your gun rights. We have already made plans to have our “Guns Save Lives” truck in Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston, and Washington DC. But without your help, these plans will have to be canceled.

CCRKBA.org BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- Bloomberg has teamed up with the liberal gun hating group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, to launch the anti-gun rights truck tour. The truck will features a mobile clock that will count the number of American lives lost due to gun violence since the Arizona shooting, but ignores how many more times guns save lives. Some people say Bloomberg is doing this because he wants to run for President in 2012 because Obama isn’t anti-gun enough!

We will be organizing grassroots protests to meet Mayor Bloomberg and his anti-gun brigade at every stop. We already have our rally signs printed and ready to be distributed. We will be handing out literature that exposes Bloomberg’s doctored gun violence numbers to thousands of Americans. And we will be launching a blitz of press releases that will attack Bloomberg in every city. Will you help us fight back against Mayor Bloomberg’s vicious onslaught on your gun rights today?

In the next 2 months the anti-gun truck will make its way across the U.S., stopping in most major cities. The anti-gun rights truck is part of a comprehensive and well-orchestrated campaign to snatch away your Second-Amendment Rights.

In addition, I will be giving radio, TV, and newspaper interviews. I will not let Bloomberg and his anti-gunners monopolize the media and get free publicity for their anti-gun agenda. It’s critical we spread the message that guns save lives.

Bloomberg and his anti-gun buddies have created a campaign

for our right to keep and bear arms. At this critical time, it is imperative that we do all in our power to fight back. With each passing day, Bloomberg’s gun-ban movement grows and is mobilizing its forces. They’re raking in enormous amounts of money and grabbing support wherever they go. This could have a devastating impact on public opinion.

I hope you will join us in our fight to preserve your right to defend yourself and your families against the thugs and criminals who prey on unarmed innocent Americans. We urgently need funds to run ads on the radio and in print media that could easily cost an additional $14,000 a week to gain support for our campaign. That’s on top of the several thousand dollars we must raise to pay for our truck and the long trip our driver will make standing up for your gun rights. We are relying on contributions from regular Americans who care about their right to own a firearm for self- protection. I can’t commit to spend the money for our much-needed campaign to fight Mayor Bloomberg unless I have your generous support.

Colorado’s Steve Schreiner for NRA Board of Directors FEB 23, 2011 07:35P.M. Wyoming Gun Owners

Vote for Colorado’s Steve Schreiner for NRA Board of Directors

Wyoming --(Ammoland.com)- We aren’t done, but I’ve got some good news for you. The first phase of passing the Jaggi-Jennings Constitutional Carry through the Wyoming State House was accomplished this afternoon. House members agreed to move this common-sense legislation forward by a vote of 48 to 8. Even though we’re definitely not done yet, and I know that I don’t have to tell you that anything can happen in politics, this is still great news. Because of your emails and phone calls, these House members have moved our bill past its first reading with an overwhelming majority. Our next steps are the 2nd reading and final passage votes, which are expected later this week. While the results of the 1st reading vote are a great encouragement, we’re obviously not done yet.

Letters to the AmmoLand Editor: Got something on your mind? Let us know and you can see it here.

Naturally, I’ll keep you up to date as Constitutional Carry nears its final passage in the House, but I wanted to keep you informed as we get closer to final passage.

Sincerely,

Now if you would accept a recommendation, I would sincerely like you to consider voting for Steve Schreiner, of Englewood Colorado, to be on the NRA Board of Directors. Steve is currently on the NRA Board.

Bay City Michigan Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Three Wolves in Upper Peninsula FEB 23, 2011 05:57P.M. Bay City Michigan Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Three Wolves in Upper Peninsula

Colorado’s Steve Schreiner for NRA Board of Directors I am serious, no other Board member will be more dedicated to protecting our Second Amendment, NONE! He really deserves reelection. Many times we look at the ballot and have only what the candidates themselves write up in the Rifleman to judge how we might vote or we may accept NRA recommendations (for unknown agenda reasons). And many times rather than take a chance on someone we don’t know much about we just send in partially filled out ballots…I have done that.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- A Bay City man has pled guilty to charges of illegally killing three wolves in Mackinac County in January.

I have personally known Steve Schreiner for 30 years. Schreiner has a solid background in the ways of political operation having been an aide to a U.S. Congressman years ago. He earned a Bronze Star for Valor and also earned the Silver Star in Nam for heroism.

William Hayward, 58, also pled guilty to malicious destruction of property for destroying two tracking collars that had been placed on the wolves by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Hayward was sentenced on Monday, Feb. 14, in 92nd District Court in St. Ignace to 365 days in jail, with 90 days to be served immediately and the remaining time suspended if all terms of his 24-month probation are met. Additionally, Hayward was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution for the wolves, $590 for the replacement of the tracking collars and $1,500 in fines and court costs. Hayward’s hunting privileges were also revoked for a period of three years, and the rifle he used to kill the wolves was condemned.

If you were to meet Steve you will find a dedicated, highly-intelligent very active energetic guy with a wily sense of humor who WILL NOT compromise our founding father’s well written Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment. Steve is dedicated! We really do need people like him on the NRA board-seriously, we really do. If you have room on your NRA Ballot to vote for Steve Schreiner, I urge you to do so he will prove to be incredibly effective on the NRA Board protecting our Second Amendment Rights. .

DNRE conservation officers conducted the investigation after locating three dead wolves in northwestern Mackinac County in January that had died from gunshot wounds. Hayward was developed as the suspect, and Mackinac County Prosector Alfred Feleppa reviewed the case and issued the charges against Hayward.

Thank You For Your Consideration, Jim Shults NRA Benefactor Distinguished Rifleman Shults Media Relations, LLC

Hayward also faced possible federal charges from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; however an agreement was reached with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that federal charges for these three illegal wolf kills would not be brought if Hayward resolved the matter in state court. Wolves are federally protected under the Endangered Species Act and a person may be charged in both state and federal court for illegally killing wolves.

CBS News reveals that “Project Gunrunner,” an ATF operation that aims to stop the flow of weapons from the U.S. to Mexican drug cartels, has allegedly facilitated the delivery of thousands of guns into the hands of criminals. Often bought with cash, and sometimes brought in paper bags, sources tell CBS News that several gun shops wanted to stop the questionable sales, but were encouraged to continue selling by the ATF, so that they could continue gathering intelligence and see where the weapons ended up. This dangerous tactic is referred to as letting the guns “walk.”

Veteran ATF agents called this strategy “insane” and “appalling,” with one, speaking under a condition of anonymity, telling CBS News, “We were fully aware the guns would probably be moved across the border to drug cartels where they could be used to kill.” CBS News has been told that at least 11 ATF agents and senior managers voiced fierce opposition to the strategy.

The legislation is sponsored by the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA).

SB 752 would create a sportsmen’s organization “check-off” box that would permit hunters buying their licenses through the Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) Automated Data License System (ALDS) to voluntarily make a donation to the non-profit hunting-related organization of their choice. Hunters would also have the opportunity to voluntarily release their contact information to the non-profit organization in order to receive educational and promotional materials.

FEB 23, 2011 11:53A.M. Texas Leads Nation with Campus Firearms Carry Bill

“As a hunter, I can proudly talk of the vital role these nonprofit organizations play in California,” said Senator Berryhill. “I believe this bill will go a long way to preserving and strengthening California’s rich hunting history.” Students for Concealed Carry on Campus Non-profit sportsmen’s groups provide valuable assistance to DFG in the agency’s effort to conserve and manage California’s wildlife and their habitats. Projects include, but are not limited to, wetland restoration efforts, big game population surveying and research, controlled burning to improve habitat, re-forestation efforts, securing public access to land, facilitating conservation easements on private land, migratory bird banding, installing guzzlers to provide water for wildlife, and trapping and relocation efforts.

AUSTIN, TX --(Ammoland.com)- Legislation allowing licensed concealed firearms on college campuses has been introduced in the Texas House of Representatives. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Joe Driver would allow Texas residents already licensed to carry under state law to have the same right to selfdefense on college campuses as they do elsewhere in Texas. “A lot of people hear about guns and schools and become alarmed,” said David Burnett, President and spokesman of Students for Concealed Carry.

“This bill would help financially support the many non-profit groups that protect and restore game species’ habitat or carry out other critically needed conservation projects,” stated Mark Hennelly, Vice President of COHA.

“The fact is that concealed carry is already an established body of law in Texas and most other states. There’s a process with age requirements, background checks and training before you can carry a handgun. If you’re mentally ill, or have a history of violent crime or drug and alcohol abuse, you can’t carry a gun.

“It would also encourage more hunters to get involved locally to assist these important conservation efforts.” The first legislative hearing on SB 752 will likely occur in the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee in April.

“This is about people who already responsibly carry elsewhere in the state, including restaurants, shopping malls, movie theaters, churches and banks. No one feels unsafe in those places, even though the odds are someone there is armed. Yet if a citizen walks onto a college campus, their right to self-defense is taken away.”

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. --(Ammoland.com)- Team Smith & Wesson’s Jerry Miculek of Princeton, La. fended off top wheelgunners Ricardo Lopez of Ecuador, Cliff Walsh of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Matt Griffin of Louisville, Ky. to claim another revolver victory, this time at the popular U.S. Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Florida Open Handgun Championship.

championship in 2008. Their back-and-forth battle at the Florida Open was one of the most exciting of the match and Jerry once again demonstrated why he is the single best wheelgunner in the world. Of course, Ricardo has shown that if Jerry’s not careful he’ll be more than happy to take that title away,” observed Michael Voigt, president of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association.

Since 2003 the Florida Open revolver title have been claimed by either Walsh (2009, 2006-2003) or Lopez (2010, 2008, 2007), often with the other finishing second.

Walsh, who finished second in 2010, placed third with a final 1303.6621 points. Griffin, another standout in USPSA revolver competition, claimed fourth with a score of 1288.5647, while John Rosado of Brazil rounded out the top five with 1005.6353 points.

The USPSA Florida Open Handgun Championship was held this past weekend at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Fla. and drew more than 365 top competition shooters, including competitors from Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Norway, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Spain.

Both Lopez and Miculek swapped stage wins throughout the match with each claiming five. Lopez’s win on the first stage gave him the early lead which lasted only through the second stage as Miculek claimed a win on it and the third.

Kaci Cochran Bests Lee for Women’s Open Title in Florida Rounding out the top five were two of the most experienced shooters within the sport. Team Smith & Wesson’s Kay Miculek of Princeton, La. placed fourth posting a final score of 1084.4052. Team Leupold’s Jesse Abbate of McDonough, Ga., a woman who has won five USPSA national handgun titles in the last three years, found herself in the uncharacteristic position of finishing fifth. Despite taking top honors on two stages Abbate ended the match with a final score of 1073.6013. “Kaci faced off against some of the strongest competitors in the Open division. She shot a strong consistent match that allowed her to fend off Athena, Kay, Jessie and last year’s top gun, Tammie, for the win,” said Michael Voigt, president of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association.

U.S. Practical Shooting Association SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. --(Ammoland.com)- With names like Abbate, Lee and Miculek in the competition, the Women’s Open title at the USPSA Florida Open was sure to go to one of these ‘usual suspects’ until Kaci Cochran shot her way to the top…and the title.

Elsewhere in Open division competition, Team Sig Sauer’s Max Michel of Covington, La. won the overall Open title for the fourth year in a row with his final score of 1517.4876. Sherwyn Greenfield of Spirit Lake, Iowa claimed the Senior Open title with 1143.5772, while Robert Keller of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. won the Super Senior Open match with a score of 1106.4356.

Cochran, a resident of Stockbridge, Ga. who was the runner-up for the last three years, won four of the 10 stages and held the lead through nearly the entire match to take the women’s title with a final score of 1161.4128. No small feat considering the nearly countless world and national titles held by three of her competitors.

One of those experienced champions, Athena Lee of Katy, Texas, was the only other shooter to lead, finishing atop the field after the first stage.

Pennsylvania Game Commission HARRISBURG, PA --(Ammoland.com)- Pennsylvania Game Commission wildlife biologists are seeking information from the general public about dead barn owls that may have succumbed to starvation during the long periods of snow and ice that covered much of Pennsylvania this winter.

Pennsylvania Game Commission Looking For Reports Of Dead Barn Owls

“Because of the length of time that much of the Commonwealth has had snow on the ground with a hard crust, barn owls have had an extremely difficult time attempting to catch meadow voles, which are their primary prey,” said Dan Mummert, Game Commission Southeast Region Wildlife Diversity Biologist and regional coordinator of the agency’s Barn Owl Conservation Initiative.

FEB 23, 2011 10:05A.M. Pennsylvania Game Commission Looking For Reports Of Dead Barn Owls

“Therefore, we currently are in what is likely the highest annual period of mortality for these owls. We need landowners’ cooperation in reporting any dead barn owls, especially those barn owls that have been banded, so we can learn more about such things as fledgling dispersal, habitat usage, causes of mortality and average lifespan.” To reinforce the Game Commission’s concerns, Mummert cited studies that show “prolonged snow, especially when it covers the ground uniformly and at depths greater than about 2.5 to 3 inches and when accompanied by exceptionally low temperatures, has often been identified with increased owl mortality.” “The most carefully researched study of this was in Utah over the winter of 1981-82,” Mummert said. “As part of this study,

16

Today’s Tabbloid PERSONAL NEWS FOR news@ammoland.com

between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 74 severely emaciated barn owls were found dead. Most perished during a period of two weeks when there was snow cover 7.8 to 9.8 inches deep and mean daily temperatures of 16 degrees Fahrenheit. The overall mortality rate during this period was unknown but the breeding population fell by 40 percent from 1981 to 1982.”

• The average lifespan was 14 months; • The longest surviving owl recovered was nearly six years old; and • Two of the banded barn owls were found in New Jersey by a barn owl researcher. These owls were alive and actively nesting in barn owl nest boxes in New Jersey.

Mummert pointed out that the conditions noted in the Utah study existed over much of Pennsylvania this year. However, Mummert also noted that 65 to 75 percent of barn owls die within their first year, and starvation is likely the main cause of death.

Barn owls stand about 10-15 inches tall and have a wingspan of 41-47 inches. Their distinctive long heart-shaped facial disk has caused this owl to be referred to as the “monkey-faced owl.” They have a nearly purewhite to dusky breast with small spots, small dark eyes, and have a hissing or scream-like vocalization. They are found in agricultural fields, grasslands, and other open areas. They nest in cavities of large dead trees, rock crevices and even burrows in riverbanks. More often, as their name implies, they nest in barns, silos, abandoned buildings and artificial nest boxes. Because barn owls feed primarily on rodents, they are beneficial to farmers. An average family of barn owls can consume up to 3,000 rodents during the course of a single year.

“During the first Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas (PBBA), which was partially funded by the Game Commission, barn owls were found in 56 of the state’s 67 counties,” Mummert said. “By the Second PBBA, the barn owl distribution had steeply contracted, especially from the two southern corners of the state, and they were found in only 30 counties. Additionally, there was a 53.4 percent reduction in number of occupied blocks between the two atlas data collection periods.

For more information on barn owls, visit the Game Commission website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), and click on “Wildlife” in the menu bar at the top of the homepage, then click on “Barn Owl Conservation Initiative” in the “Wild Birds and Birding” section.”

“The really unfortunate point is that there were only 20 years between atlas periods, which means that there has been a steep decline in barn owls in Pennsylvania. And, even more unfortunate is the fact that we have seen other species with even steeper declines.”

• Northwest Region Office, P.O. Box 31, Franklin, PA 16323. 814432-3188. Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties.

Since 2006, Game Commission Regional Wildlife Diversity Biologists have banded 781 barn owls and have confirmed nesting at 138 different nest sites throughout the state. So far, agency biologists have had 32 band recoveries, of which, half were returned during winter.

• Southwest Region Office, 4820 Route 711, Bolivar, PA 15923. 724238-9523. Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

“Many of the barn owls were recovered soon after conditions we recently experienced; long lasting snow cover with icy crust,” Mummert said. “A good percentage of the remaining band returns were from young fledglings recovered dead near their natal nest site.”

• Northcentral Region Office, P.O. Box 5038, Jersey Shore, PA 17740. 570-398-4744. Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Tioga, and Union counties.

Barn owls have large clutches, with an average of five chicks, while some have as many as 10 in one clutch.

“It appears to be nature’s strategy of having large clutches to overcome high mortality rates,” Mummert said. “The barn owl has not been well studied in Pennsylvania and band returns are a cost effective way to learn about such things as fledgling dispersal and life expectancy.”

• Northeast Region Office, P.O. Box 220, Dallas, PA 18612. 570-6751143. Bradford, Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

• Southeast Region Office, 448 Snyder Rd., Reading, PA 19605. 610926-3136. Berks, Bucks, Chester, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia and Schuylkill counties.

• The average fledgling dispersal was 58 miles; • The furthest dispersal was 325 miles where the band was recovered in the northeast corner of North Carolina;

Michel, who shoots for Team Sig Sauer and resides in Covington, La., found himself in second place behind Jorge Ballesteros of Spain for the first half the match. Michel won the next stage to begin closing the gap on the front runner. A second place finish on stage six to Top Shot contestant Chris Tilley of Raleigh, N.C., coupled with a disastrous 11th place finish on the same stage by Ballesteros, put Michel out in front.
