The M1 Garand, developed in the late 1930’s, carried the United States through World War II seeing action in every major battle. General Patton at the time called the M1 Garand “the greatest battle implement ever devised.”

Nearly 1 Million American Rifles Banned By A Stroke Of Obama’s Pen

The rifle is largely credited with giving American soldiers the advantage and securing victory for the allies.

MAY 17, 2011 07:49P.M. During the Korean War, nearly one million of these rifles were brought to South Korea and left with the South Korean government afterward. Now, South Korea wants to give American gun collectors the chance to get their hands on this unique piece of history.

Nearly 1 Million American Rifles Banned By A Stroke Of Barack Obama’s Pen

A piece of American history that Barack Obama would like to see go down the memory hole. That’s why I want as many Americans as possible to put themselves on record opposing this gun ban. After World War II, the United States government sent millions of these rifles overseas to our allies and friends. Over the past 50 years, many of the countries we lent them to returned them to America to be bought and sold by firearms collectors. This is nothing new. The Dreaded M1 Garand rifle feared by our current president and gun banners.

Make no mistake; these rifles were made in America, by Americans, for Americans, to defend freedom on foreign shores. As a part of our history, they are greatly sought after by American shooters and collectors. But according to Hillary Clinton’s State Department there is a danger they might “fall into the wrong hands.” That they might, possibly, one day be used in a crime. No mention of the hundreds of thousands of gun owners deprived of the opportunity to own an integral part of American history. The State Department’s outrageous claims are nothing more than a thinly veiled ploy to distract from the real issue: President Obama’s deep seated hatred for gun rights. While his gun-grabbing base is giddy with praise at this back-door gun ban, law-abiding citizens across the United States are crying foul. Let me be clear: at no time in U.S. history has the ownership of this firearm – or any part of this firearm -- been illegal, restricted or banned.

National Association for Gun Rights Colorado -–(Ammoland.com)- In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration quietly banned the re-importation of nearly one million American made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles.

Americans have collected World War II M1 Garand and Carbine rifles for decades. Now they are sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

You can even purchase a newly manufactured model from Springfield Armory that was made just a month or two ago.

Your survey will put you squarely on the record AGAINST Barack Obama’s Rifle Ban. Not only that, but they’re preparing a massive program to launch the designed to force President Obama to reverse this ban.

And the M1 Garand’s caliber or capacity is no more dangerous than the millions of modern firearms owned by Americans across the country today.

Direct mail. Phones. E-mail. Blogs. Guest editorials. Press conferences. Hard-hitting internet, newspaper, radio and even TV ads if funding permits. The whole nine yards.

As you can see, there is absolutely no justification for this unconstitutional gun ban. This is just the latest in a series of anti-gun schemes from the Obama Administration:

Thank you in advance for your time defending our Second Amendment rights.

• New BATFE regulations on semi-automatic rifles, requiring firearms dealers to act as an informant to anti-gun federal bureacrats if someone buys more than one rifle;

For Freedom,

• The Disarming American Citizens Act (H.R. 2159 in the last Congress) letting Attorney General Eric Holder revoke the Second Amendment rights of ANY American he chooses based on pure suspicion;

• Notorious anti-gunners appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court and other senior administration positions; • That’s why it is essential that Americans like you and I take a stand against the M1 Garand gun ban!

It has been common practice since the end of World War II to re-import these American made rifles from the foreign allies they were lent to during the war. But the Obama Administration departs radically from the American tradition.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fl --(Ammoland.com)- Imagine a business investment that routinely returns over 1,000 percent annually to your company.

The investment is actually the excise tax-funded Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration programs. Every three months, manufacturers and importers of fishing, hunting and shooting-sports equipment write checks to the federal government. These excise-tax payments, 10-11 percent on most products, can be seen as an investment because federal law earmarks these dollars for maintaining and enhancing America’s fish and wildlife populations. NSSF Responds to New York Times Editorial Promoting Banning Lead Ammunition

But the successes also extend into countless other national and local stories, such as: • By 1950, pollution and siltation had reduced or even eliminated fish in many waters that once were highly productive. Sport Fish Restoration investments turned many fisheries around and sparked a 200 percent increase in tackle sales (in constant dollars) since 1955.

MAY 17, 2011 03:47P.M. NSSF Responds to New York Times Editorial Promoting Banning Lead Ammunition

• In 1937, states on average allowed 30 days of waterfowl hunting. In 2010, 11 states provided 150 or more waterfowl hunting days, 23 states provided 120 days, and 13 states provided more than 90. • By the 1950s, the oily and inedible alewife littered the beaches of the Great Lakes and sport fishing was nearly nonexistent. Now, thanks in part to Sport Fish Restoration funds, world-class sport fisheries in the Great Lakes for salmon, trout, walleye, and yellow perch annually generate more than $2 billion in retail sales and support more than 58,000 jobs. • In 1937, Wyoming elk hunters had only limited local seasons. Today, 170 days of elk hunting are available for various specialty hunts. More than 53,000 hunters put in more than 412,000 hunter-days devoted to elk hunting, harvesting approximately 23,000 elk.

Lobby,” May 17, 2011). As even one of the petitioners has acknowledged, the proposed ban would have applied to all ammunition, not just hunting ammunition, thereby affecting not only sportsmen, but the military, law enforcement and all responsible gun owners. Bipartisan legislation, sponsored by the co-chairs of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, which is the largest caucus in congress, seeks to further clarify the existing exemption of ammunition from EPA jurisdiction and to exempt sport-fishing tackle. Over 35 of the nation’s largest conservation groups support this commonsense legislation.

The science of wildlife management is based on managing populations, not on preventing isolated instances of harm to individual animals. If wildlife management were to be based on preventing harm to individual animals then presumably hunting would be banned. Hunting, however, is a critical management tool, and the excise taxes paid on the sale of the ammunition you demonize is the primary funding source for wildlife and habitat conservation in the United States. Absent sound scientific evidence of a population impact caused by the use of traditional ammunition, there is no justification for further restricting or banning its use.

Top 10 Reasons to Host a First Shots Seminar MAY 17, 2011 03:32P.M. Top 10 Reasons to Host a First Shots Seminar

The proper agencies to protect wildlife are the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the 50 state fish and game agencies. To illustrate this point, the Fish and Wildlife Service, not the E.P.A., barred the use of lead shot for waterfowl hunting many years ago. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study does not, as you claim, show a health risk to hunters who consume game harvested with traditional ammunition. Quite the opposite is true, as demonstrated by the study showing that the average hunter had blood lead levels less than half that of the average American – including those walking the streets of Manhattan. There has never been a documented case of lead poisoning, let alone elevated lead levels, caused by consuming game harvested with traditional ammunition. Once again, the arguments posed in your editorial are agenda-based science and don’t hold up to factual scrutiny.

Top 10 Reasons to Host a First Shots Seminar

Alternative ammunition made with substantially more expensive metals comprises just 5 percent of the ammunition market in the United States. Banning traditional ammunition, based on emotion rather than science, will result in skyrocketing prices for ammunition. Indeed, by needlessly banning traditional ammunition, price sensitive hunters and target shooters as well as fishermen will be priced out of their sport, and funding for wildlife and habitat conservation will dry up. Sincerely,

Recovery Plan in Wisconsin.

“The goal of this plan is to ensure that American martens remain a viable member of Wisconsin’s natural heritage today and for generations to come,” says Jim Woodford, a conservation biologist with the Department of Natural Resources in Rhinelander.

AMMOLAND.COM SHOOTING SPORTS NEWS

Tis The Season – To Slow The Spread Of Invasive Species

American martens have cultural significance to the Ojibwe Indians of Wisconsin. In addition they are one of the best indicator species for a contiguous, diverse, and healthy northern forest ecosystem.

MAY 17, 2011 02:59P.M.

In states and provinces where American martens are harvested, marten furs received the second-highest in total dollar sales of all wild furbearers sold in North America in 2010. In the western Great Lakes states, martens are legally trapped in northern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Tis The Season – To Slow The Spread Of Invasive Species

Woodford says martens were found nearly statewide throughout the forested regions of Wisconsin prior to European settlement, but their numbers and distribution decreased due to unregulated trapping, habitat loss, and subsequent wildfires. Even though marten trapping was prohibited in 1921, martens were considered extirpated from the state by 1925. Martens (a member of the weasel family) were listed as a state endangered species, and a recovery plan was developed in 1986. Three major reintroduction projects have occurred since then to reestablish martens to the forests of northern Wisconsin.

Wisconsin DNR MADISON, WI --(Ammoland.com)- As residents and visitors to Wisconsin gear up for camping, fishing, hiking, and other recreation activities, state invasive species control specialists are asking them to consider how these activities can inadvertently spread invasive plants around the state.

Marten populations in Wisconsin are monitored annually by winter track surveys in two core population areas. These surveys have not provided definite population trends, in large part due to low density of animals. Researchers estimated between 160 and 282 martens in one core area in 2005. A partnership between DNR, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission are currently completing a three year project that reintroduced 90 martens into the other core area.

“As we venture out to enjoy nature, everyone should be mindful of how humans and our activities can play a critical role in either increasing or slowing the spread of invasive plants,” says Tom Boos, an invasive plant control specialist with the Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry.

The draft management plan calls for, among other things, developing a more accurate population estimate of martens in Wisconsin, maintaining the established two marten protection areas, developing and implementing forest management guidelines to protect and improve marten habitat, and protecting and enhancing corridors for marten movements between isolated groups of martens.

At this time of year, Boos says, garlic mustard is one of the most recognizable invasive plants in woodland settings and it is easily spreads by seed. “Simply scraping mud off your boots or shoes before and after spending time in garlic-mustard infested areas and removing any seeds stuck to clothing can dramatically reduce the risk of spreading this and other invasive plants to new areas,” Boos says.

The Draft Management and Conservation Plan for American Martens in Wisconsin (pdf) is available on the DNR website or by request to: Jim Woodford, Conservation Biologist, 107 Sutliff Avenue, Rhinelander, WI 54501, (715)365-8856, james.woodford@wisconsin.gov. Interested individuals or groups can submit comments on the draft plan to Woodford via written, e-mail, or oral comments through July 5, 2011.

After camping, people should shake out and brush off equipment to avoid spreading invasive species to the next spot they set up camp. When fishing excursions come to an end, anglers should never dump worms or other bait in the water or out “in nature.”

“It is best to dispose of unused worms in the trash to avoid introducing worms into a nearby forest where they greatly harm the forest,” Boos says. “And remember to always remove any aquatic plants from boats and trailers and to drain all water before leaving a boat landing to avoid spreading aquatic invasive species or fish diseases.”

Michel finished behind World Champion, Eric Grauffel (France), while third place went to Jorge Ballesteros of Spain. “I had a blast competing in the TDL France Med Cup 2011 and I wish I could compete in Europe more often,” commented Michel.

People take the time to visit parks and other wild areas because of their beauty and biodiversity, Boos notes, so taking these easy steps can help protect those valuable natural resources.

“The style of shooting in Europe is very physical and technical versus what we do here in the states. I can’t wait to make it back to Europe next month to compete in the Greek Nationals. It is great preparation for me as I continue training for the IPSC World Shoot XVI later this year.”

Regardless of the type of recreation activities people are participating in, there are simple actions they can take to minimize the spread of invasive species. The Wisconsin Council on Forestry Invasive Species Best Management Practices [council.wisconsinforestry.org/invasives] (exit DNR) lists preventative steps for a wide range of outdoor activities from motorized sports and horseback-riding to hiking, biking, camping and hunting. There are also activity based handouts on the website that you can share with others that send the basic message of “Slow the spread by sole and tread”.

Dave Sevigny Wins 2011 USPSA Single Stack National Championship

This impressive victory marks Sevigny’s 11th USPSA National Championship making him only the second shooter in USPSA history to win the Single Stack Nationals elusive overall title. Rob Leatham was the 2011 runner-up and had won all prior Single Stack Classic and National championships from 1995-2010. Altus Brands, EVP Charles Ricci noted, “Dave is a tremendous shooter who has worn Pro Ears Electronic Hearing Protection/Amplification products exclusively for the past ten years. Dave is a great representative for Pro Ears but is also a talented competitor and distinguished representative for the shooting sports. We are honored and happy to extend our congratulations to Dave for another impressive win.” Dave Sevigny added, “This was a memorable victory for me and my sponsors. I never shoot without my Pro Ears on as they provide me with quality hearing protection and amplification in all weather conditions.

Pro Ears by Altus Traverse City, MI --(Ammoland.com)- 2011 marked the Centennial Anniversary of the legendary 1911 pistol and on May 14, 2011 Pro Ears shooter Dave Sevigny again made practical pistol history.

During this match they protected my hearing, helped me hear range commands and even kept my head warm in those cold, wet conditions. Pro Ears are always a part of every championship run.”

Using a custom 1911-A1 in 45 ACP Dave competed against 341 competitors in what was the largest and most hotly contested match in the history of the annual 1911 pistol tournament.

In addition to the Pro Ears brand, Altus Brands. LLC also owns Benchmaster Rifle Rests, Rifleman Hearing Protection, Crossfire Slings, Bughats, Cass Creek Game Calls, Woodland Whisper, Harmon Deer Scents and American Bison Leather Products.

On the final day of the tournament in cold, wet conditions Sevigny finished in the Top 5 in 8 of 14 stages including two stage wins en route to a decisive high overall championship.

Other anti-gun amendments were offered by Reps. Ted Celeste (D), Mike Foley (D) (who invoked “the Wild Wild West atmosphere” he says “could and would happen” in bars, before introducing an admittedly “sarcastic” amendment), Sandra Williams (D), Tracy Heard (D) (who asked “what’s to guarantee me that any one of the members in this chamber who hold a concealed carry wouldn’t shoot me in the head?” and said she believes if the bill passes “there isn’t going to be anyone in Ohio who isn’t carrying a gun.”) and Bill Patmon (D) (who cited examples of a few CHL-holders who have broken the law as representative of what he must expect will happen here). Those amendments too were tabled or defeated – Celeste’s by a 62-34 margin, Foley’s 72-23, Williams’ 64-32, Heard’s 61-34 and Patmon’s 64-32.

Ohio House passes HB45 (Restaurant & Car Carry Rules Fix) and HB54 (Restoration of Rights) MAY 17, 2011 11:50A.M. Ohio House passes HB45 (Restaurant & Car Carry Rules Fix) and HB54 (Restoration of Rights) Editor’s Note: This story was updated as information became available.

Several Democrats also rose in opposition to the bill. Most notably, Rep. Mark Okey (D), rose to complain that a letter sent to Representatives by Buckeye Firearms Association was “threatening” and “intended to intimidate us.” Okey also claimed that bar owners would be liable for the actions of those carrying a concealed handgun license. Ken Hanson, Legislative Chair of Buckeye Firearms Association, said, “That is not true. Okey needs to refer to Ohio Law, specifically 2923.126(C)(2)(a) which says ‘A private employer shall be immune from liability in a civil action for any injury, death, or loss to person or property that allegedly was caused by or related to a licensee bringing a handgun onto the premises or property of the private employer, including motor vehicles owned by the private employer, unless the private employer acted with malicious purpose.’”

Buckeye Firearms Foundation Ohio --(Ammoland.com)- By a 56 – 40 margin, the Ohio House has passed House Bill 45, sponsored by Representatives Danny Bubp (RWest Union) and Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) which will allow citizens who hold a valid concealed handgun license (CHL) to carry a firearm in restaurants.

Okey concluded his remarks by with this: “Buckeye Firearms, you have to earn my vote” and asserted that he was voting ‘no‘ as an act of “legislative self-defense,” shouting “Every citizen has a right to defend his house. This is our House,” he said, referring to the Statehouse. There will no doubt a good number of voters who will look forward to reminding Okey in 2012 that it is not, in fact, his House, it is The People’s House, and it is he who has to earn our vote.

To do so, license holders may not consume any alcohol and must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to OpenCarry.org, 42 states (including every state that borders Ohio) allow non-drinking license holders to carry firearms in restaurants. The bill also reduces burdensome restrictions regarding how a license holder must transport a firearm in a car. Currently, Ohio is the only state to place such complex limitations on license holders.

The House also passed House Bill 54, sponsored by Representatives Ron Maag (R-Lebanon) and Jarrod Martin (R-Beavercreek), which seeks to align Ohio law with federal statutes regarding the restoration of rights to Ohio firearms purchasers. The bill passed by a 78-18 majority. An amended version of that bill was already passed in the Senate by a 25-7 margin.

One month ago, the Ohio Senate passed an amended version of this legislation (SB17) by a 25-7 margin, having adding a provision to provide a way for people who were convicted of improperly transporting a firearm under the current law to receive relief if they would have been in compliance under the law as amended.

Ken Hanson, Legislative Chair of Buckeye Firearms Association, said, “These bills address three important issues facing Ohio gun owners and concealed carry license holders and seek to align Ohio law with federal law and the laws of our surrounding states.”

Before the bill passed, Rep. Todd McKenney (R-New Franklin) offered an amendment to strip restaurant carry from the bill. The anti-gun amendment was defeated by a 58-38 vote to table. Buckeye Firearms Association can report that McKenney answered our 2010 candidate survey just as did Rep. Matt Lundy (D), who BFA recently exposed for having lied on his 2010 candidate survey by promising to vote for the legislation in order to win a good grade and an endorsement, only to reverse course within weeks after being in office.

Even though both the House and Senate have passed substantially similar bills, each bill must go through the normal committee vote and floor vote process in the opposite chamber before it can be sent to Governor Kasich. Only one bill on each topic will actually make it to the

Governor. Buckeye Firearms Association is hopeful that the Ohio General Assembly can expedite these bills, because opportunity for proponent and opponent testimony has already been given in each chamber, and so that both bills can be sent to Governor Kasich before the summer recess.

Finishing in second and just 7.8013 points out of first was Richard Heinie of Quincy, Ill., the co-founder of the Single Stack Nationals now in its 17th year of competition. Heinie finished with a final score of 569.8433. Rounding out the top five were Clark in third with 548.8634, John Amidon of North Syracuse, N.Y. in fourth with 532.1285 and Joel Parks of Festus, Mo. in fifth with 468.6112 points.

“The Super Senior category is always a tough contest and to win means overcoming serious competition from your fellow shooters. Through 11 straight stages Robert had to keep the match co-founder at bay, and that’s never and easy feat. Congratulations to Robert on an outstanding match,” said Michael Voigt, USPSA president.
