TOMLINSON RESIDENCE For this client we were presented with all the problems she had with her current kitchen and tasked with designing a space that would accommodate all her needs and be completely functional. We re-configured her pantry space and created a new island area.
FINAL PROPOSED FLOOR PLAN

The bay window was converted into a banquet for her kitchen table. We also incorporated an opening from the main kitchen area into the pantry , and also through the bar area. A butlers pantry next to her dining room was also included in the redesign of the space.

This was also a complete kitchen remodel located in Atlanta, GA. The client needed more space to accommodate her children and busy lifestyle. To achieve this we omitted the wall separating the dining room from the kitchen. This allowed for us to make a large island, and a nice open dining room space. The kitchen now feels larger, without actually extending the square footage so we could still keep the cost at a reasonable level.

The client for this project was a couple that decided to convert one of their guest bedrooms into a master on main. This included a 17’ addition off the front of their house. While doing this, we also had to think about how the exterior elevation would change.
The couple wanted a full walk-in bathroom and walk-in closet. The clients wanted their new space to be completely unique. The ceiling is vaulted to match the roof pitch, and the shower is exposed to the space separated by an 8 ft. wall.

FRONT ENTRY DESIGN
This job was primarily an exterior deck project. This eventually extended into the basement to add a new usable storage space. The client wished to update their front entry patio as well as their backyard deck. I worked mainly with the owner of the company in order to achieve a design that was cohesive across the entire house, as well as made the client happy. JACOBS RESIDENCE This project consisted of redesigning three different bathrooms: the two children’s bathrooms, and then the guest. I was tasked with creating the floor plans and elevations based on concept sketches from the clients designer.

To ensure that the tile layout was being interpreted correctly, I also created 3D drawings of the shower areas. These drawings were meant to aide the entire design team as well as the construction team.

SHAVER residence The company that I worked for was hired to remodel a master bath and a guest bathroom in this couples home. The job was mainly to update the existing space with newer and nicer materials. The main focus was the types and directions of tiles being used. The vanity was redesigned as well, and new hardware was installed throughout the space. SKILLS: • AutoCAD • SketchUp • Adobe InDesign

screen unit This was a group project completed with half of my section from freshman year. Collectively as a group, ten of us decided upon a solid design that would work as a single unit that would be repeated over and over again to create a “screen”.
The design we chose was able to be flipped on either end, and can support an average persons weight. A single unit was roughly 2 1/2’ tall and 2’ wide. We chose 1/4” steel for the sides and 3/4” birch plywood for the top and bottom.

THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS:
spatial unit Our final project for the second semester of my freshman year was to design a full scale inhabitable space. My entire section worked as a group to come up with our own design and then we had to collaborate with the rest of our studio to make sure our space would be seen as one cohesive piece. The challenge was working as a whole group to make sure the unit read as one continuous space, but still drew people in to walk through it. This unit was placed on the public quadrangle for everyone to “inhabit” for a week. SKILLS: • Adobe Illustrator • Woodshop • Model Making
17
tectonic systems MODELS: Over the course of two months we were tasked to research a certain tectonic system that interested us and design a structure that displayed the chosen system accordingly. I chose folded plate as my system, and I created numerous models that showed
19
various ways that folded plates could be used and interpreted. I explored different model making techniques while trying to portray the system correctly such as: laser cutting, 3D printing, fabric stretching, and plaster casting.

ROWING FACILITY For the final project of my second year we were tasked with designing a rowing facility on site of the Newport Levy in Newport, KY. The facility needed to accommodate a full sized row tank for an Olympic row team to practice in. As well as team dwellings, boat
21
storage, and boat rental areas. I chose to split my two facilities into separate buildings: one for the public storage and rental area and one for the private team dwelling area. My design incorporated my research on folded plate tectonics, and was built into the levy.

Model Making WOOD MODELS: This page is meant to depict the many different ways I’ve experimented with model making over my college career. The models to the right are all created completely out of wood. The models in the center are all different plaster cast models, using different techniques.
The model directly below was first created by casting the concrete in molds I created and then applying the wood over top and around the separate pieces. The model in the bottom right is made of solid wood/wood strips as well has black/gray hardboard pieces.

HAND SKILLS To the right is a drawing that I did representing an old barn. Below that is a drawing I did in oil pastels meant to represent depth. The detail sketches are of various buildings around UC’s campus. Filling the page below is a picture I drew from an existing picture of my dad
25
The wolf picture measures about 22X30” and is done using black and white charcoal plus oil pastels. The pictures to the left are two preliminary studies I did prior to the final, the first done in pencil and the next done in watercolor paint.
SKILLS: • Hand rendering with: watercolor, charcoal, oil pastels, and graphite
