THE KING 50 YEARS ON THE THRONE!

This year, Carl XVI Gustaf celebrates 50 years as Sweden’s head of state, making him the longest-reigning monarch in Swedish history.

The Swedish royal family members are very popular and they abide by the king’s motto: “For Sweden – With the Times” (För Sverige i tiden, in Swedish) – with their modernity and innovation.

This year, King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrates 50 years as Sweden’s head of state, making him the longestreigning monarch in Swedish history. Denmark’s Queen Margrethe and Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf are the living monarchs who have been on the throne the longest. However, Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah tops the list, having been in power since 1967.

During his time on the throne, the king has undertaken over 80 state visits abroad to promote Sweden and Swedish interests. He serves as patron and honorary member of numerous Swedish academies, organizations, and associations.

The Bernadotte family consists of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, their three children and seven grandchildren; Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and their children Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. Prince Carl Philip and his Princess Sofia, along with their children Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel. Princess Madeleine and her three children Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne. Mr Christopher O’Neill is married to Princess Madeleine and is father to their three children, but he is not a part of the royal house due to the fact that he declined the title of Prince in order to continue to operate as an international businessman.

The Royal family members embrace Swedish design and often take the train to meetings and gatherings. Did you know that solar panels have been installed at the Royal Palace, and the Royal family reuses clothing to inspire reduced consumption?

When the King and Queen are not working from the Royal Palace or representing Sweden at various events and state visits, they reside at Drottningholm Palace. The Crown Princess family lives at Haga Palace, close to nature, which the entire family enjoys. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, along with their two sons and their dog Siri, live on the Royal Djurgården in a house inherited from Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian. During the summer months, the whole family gathers at their beloved summer residence, Solliden, on the Baltic island of Öland.

Men i topp återfinns Bruneis sultan Hassanal Bolkiah som suttit vid makten sedan 1967.

Familjen Bernadotte utgörs av kung Carl Gustaf och drottning Silvia samt deras tre barn och sju barnbarn: kronprinsessan Victoria, prins Daniel och deras barn prinsessan Estelle och prins Oscar.

Prins Carl Philip och hans prinsessa Sofia samt deras barn prins Alexander och prins Gabriel.

Prinsessan Madeleine och hennes tre barn prinsessan Leonore, prins Nicolas och prinsessan Adrienne. Herr Christopher O’Neill är gift med prinsessan Madeleine och far till deras tre barn, men utgör inte en del av kungahuset då han tackade nej till prinstiteln för att fortsätta verka som internationell affärsman.

De kungliga familjemedlemmarna hyllar svensk design och tar mer än gärna tåget till möten och sammankomster. Visste du till exempel att det installerats solceller på Kungliga slottet och att kungafamiljen återanvänder kläder för att inspirera till att förminska konsumtion?

När kungen och drottningen inte jobbar från Kungliga slottet eller representerar Sverige vid olika evenemang och statsbesök så bor de på Drottningholms slott. Kronprinsessfamiljen bor på Haga slott nära grönskan som hela familjen gillar att ta del av. Prins Carl Philip och prinsessan Sofia bor med deras två söner och hunden Siri på Kungliga Djurgården i ett hus som de ärvt av prins Bertil och prinsessan Lilian. Under sommarmånaderna samlas hela familjen vid deras älskade sommarslott Solliden på Öland.
