s d r o w s r Edito I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the first ever issue of Amplified Valley, it has been a lot of hard work but well worth it. Amplified Valley was suggested to me over at the Snug (The Exchange) as i am a photographer and i love documenting things at the time i was working on a book based around my year being at the venue as a punter, Michael the owner suggested i make a fanzine based around the local talent in the Aire Valley district. From the discussion with him and the support he has given me towards it i managed to pull all this together.

JOHNNY B BUSKI

JONNY B IS A REGULAR SIGHT IN KEIGHLEY, HIS USUAL SPOT BY THE BUS STATION, AND ACCOMPANYING EARTHY VOCALS AND CATCHY SONGS BRIGHTEN MOST MISERABLE DAYS.

ING IN KEIGHLEY

WHY DO YOU ACTUALLY DO THIS WHY NOT GET A NORMAL 9-5? THIS IS MY JOB, THE THING PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE WHEN THEY WALK PAST AND SHOUT AT ME TO GET A REAL JOB AND STOP BEGGING IS THAT I PAY TAX ON WHATEVER I EARN THROUGH BUSKING. I’M NOT ON ANY BENEFITS, AS MY SOLE EARNINGS ARE THROUGH PLAYING GIGS AND BUSKING. THE THING THAT GETS ME UP EVERYDAY IS KNOWING I HAVE THE MOST AMAZING GIRLFRIEND A GUY COULD ASK FOR. SOMETIMES I FEEL SHE’S REALLY OUT OF MY LEAGUE. SHE REALLY IS SOMETHING. ALSO, KNOWING I HAVE MY LITTLE DAUGHTER TO LOOK AFTER ON WEEKENDS, MAKING SURE THAT SHE KNOWS I’M OUT HERE MAKING A FUTURE FOR US ALL – THAT’S WHAT GETS ME UP EVERYDAY. I WANT THE BEST FOR MY GIRLFRIEND AND DAUGHTER. IT MEANS SOMETHING KNOWING I’M PAYING MY WAY, PROVIDING THE FOOD AND SHELTER FOR THEM. THE FUTURE IS LOOKING GREAT; PEOPLE KNOW ME, THEY LIKE MY MUSIC, AND GIGS SEEM TO KEEP COMING IN. I’M WORKING HARD SO I KNOW MY CLOSE ONES CAN SURELY BE HAPPY AND HAVE A BETTER FUTURE.

Looming around

Spending time with loomer , this band are going from strength to strength with the sound coming out. We are interested to find out what they’re all about.

AV: First of all guys where did the name come from? LM: “Loomer” is from the album ‘Loveless’ by My Bloody Valentine AV: Seeing as you are getting about more, what has been highlight so far during your gigs? LM: I think just the atmosphere we have gotten, all we do is make noise but people enjoy it. Seeing people mosh is great but I think the highlight is We can expect kind words from friends but when strangers come up and say how much they liked the show it means all that much more AV: You’ve recently recorded your Dwaal EP, what can we expect from this?

LM: Just noise really, good noise mind. We are trying out different elements to make our sound different to all the rest.

AV: Where did the name for the EP come from? what is dwaal? LM: Dwaal is like a dreamy, dazed and distant minded state

RANDOM HAND THE TO

Random hand say the farewells after 13 years of packing out venues up and down the country and across the world, these guys really have shown the rest of the world what K-town has to offer in terms of talented musicians. RH are leaving behind something that the locals will cherish and enjoy. Though this is not the end of Random Hand as words have been said about it just being a hiatus, I suppose after 13 years of working so hard on the sounds they created they deserve a break.

OUR TO END ALL TOURS

These guys really respect the following they have and to go out in style they had created another album and asked the fans and followers to pledge what they could to help support the making of this. In doing so the band didn’t realize the response they would get. Currently the band’s pledge is 250% over the goal. Also since this had been achieved they have stated “10% of any money raised after the goal is reached will go to Gambian Schools Trust”.

Random Hand have played with some of the greatest bands in the ska/punk genre, Sonic Boom Six, Bad Manners, Less Than Jake.

The tour has come to an end and with everyone heading off in different directions “for now we would like to wish them a full Amplified Valley good bye and farewell good luck with anything and everything that you do guys

the event Located at one of Bradford’s most legendary venues The Mill, Trap Door is a monthly alternative rock party! Spread over two floors, we showcase the best in local talent with live bands and DJ’s. We offer not just a monthly event, but a unique nightclub experience to offer memories like no other. We like to think of ourselves as an opportunity each month for people to gather, drink, dance their asses off and party to some great Metal, Rock, Punk & Ska music.

Every month there is an (optional!) fancy dress theme with competitions and prizes for the best dressed, including a place in our Hall of Fame! By having a monthly fancy dress theme we’re saying, wear what you want, be whatever you want to be, express yourself, and have some fun safe in the knowledge that you don’t have to try and be anything that “regular society” thinks you should be. We’re all about making your night out the special experience that it should be, if you have a request for a song to be played, send us a message and we WILL tell our DJ. Our fully stocked bars have a wide variety of beers, ciders and spirits at reasonable prices that everyone can afford! Remember, our resident photographer Matty Boombastic, is always on the prowl for a good picture so whether you want to pose, dance, or fall over each other, it’s all good with us. We’re open the last Saturday of every month, 10pm to 4am, with a cost of admission at £5, or £4 N.U.S. -Source from trapdoors website)

Studio 13

Entering The Exchange one evening excited to be taking photographs of all the bands that are showcasing that night, the drinks are going down the crowd are happy it was a very pleasant event. Then Studio 13 came along with there mixture of blues, rock, jazz, funky style set. This band haven’t been together for very long but had a great connection on stage Chris who is the lead guitar really knows his way round the guitar and truly showcases great skills. Jerry may look the oldest but as the drummer keeps the pace going Adam is by far the tallest person i have ever met standing proud with his bass. Then their is Lowri the front women of the band and truly a boss, keeping the boys in check and singing is truly spot on. facebook.com/studio13.rocks
